“Like Rich88, how about coming up with a coincidence bet before it occurs?”
Aiden O’Brien has won the 2000 Guineas 10 times. What I’ve touched upon with his winners is that their names fit into 4 groups…
Two word names
George Washington
Saxon Warrior
Magna GreciaSingle word names
Camelot
Gleneagles
Churchill‘All in one’ word names
Footstepsinthesand
HenrithenavigatorThe word ‘of’ in the names
King of Kings
Rock of GibraltarNow, according to a well known saying … ‘things happen in threes’. Therefore, since there are currently no AOB horses with an ‘All in one’ name in next year’s 2000 Guineas, it appears that a third group of three will be completed in 2024 by City of Troy.
September 11, 2023 at 17:26 #1662676Does everyone remember when Dallas won The Cambridgeshire? Who was interviewed at Newmarket prior to race on C4 racing? None other than Larry Hagman (JR) Did anyone take the hint and lump on like Larry? Unlike me
September 11, 2023 at 19:14 #1662692Was it a coincidence the 1/25 shot that got beat at Ripon the other day was named “Doom”?
Think it was Eddie Freemantle who once said to beware of names describing something bad.
Because the owner may have seen something in the horse’s temperament before naming the horse. Especially with owner breeders like in this case.Value Is EverythingSeptember 11, 2023 at 19:23 #1662694Was it a coincidence they named the horse aSADna. Did they know it was going to go all horribly wrong after debut?
A the first letter in the alphabet. The perfect start
SAD 😢😢
NA what a teenager says instead of noThe answer is no

September 11, 2023 at 19:24 #1662695Ginger would the owner be more wise to spend his time trying to flog off said horse with bad temperament rather than going through the book of bad names?
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 11, 2023 at 20:10 #1662700Actually, just looked up the owner’s 4 horses who don’t seem related, three of the four:
Bleak
Stormy Sea
DoomSo doubt there was anything temperamental about Doom as a foal.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 11, 2023 at 20:23 #1662703Here’s one for you all.
Phoenix star
Last won on sept 14 last year beating pop dancer.
Pop dancer won in November last year and won again last month beating secret hand sheik at Brighton at Brighton.
Phoenix dancer previously dead heated for first place with hurricane Ivor in 2021 at sandown. Hurricane Ivor was due to run yesterday in the bold lad at the curragh, but was withdrawn.
Secret handsheik won at Brighton today.
Phoenix Dancer runs in seven minutes time at Newcastle.
Just saying……September 12, 2023 at 13:41 #1662750I guess not everyone’s idea of a coincidence bet….
But here’s another one.
Danny Mullins is down to ride in a maiden hurdle at Worcester at 3:30 then in the opening race on the beach at laytown at 4:45. Obviously not going by a well known cheap fares outfit.September 12, 2023 at 14:25 #1662753“Now, according to a well known saying … ‘things happen in threes’. Better keep an eye out for Emperor of Rome, House of Aviz, Master of the Hunt, and the currently unraced Admiralofthewhite (who cunningly ticks both boxes) making unnatural improvement to muddy the picture.
Back on the subject of coincidences I remember the media making a fuss over a horse named Punxsutawney Phil who was entered up for a race on Groundhog Day and duly won. Sadly it seems he was unable to repeat the trick a year on.

Like Rich88, how about coming up with a coincidence bet before it occurs?
A coincidence bet is only relevant to the backer, but here’s one (probably lose now)
Having read JJR Tolken’s Lord Of The Rings, Middle Earth in St Leger is my coincidence bet.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.September 30, 2023 at 15:19 #1665014This week, the great actor Micheal Gambon passed on. He is, arguably, best know for playing Dumbledore the Wizard.
In the Cambridgeshire today, Merlin The Wizard could well be worth an Each-Way punt for a coincidence bet.
Dumbledore the Wizard has 19 letters. Now, the race number for Merlin the Wizard is 19. Oh, and Mr Gambon was born on the 19th of October.
The Gamble is on

October 1, 2023 at 11:46 #1665117I have never seen Alan Bennett the history boys but if you have less time and you have ten minutes to spare you can dip your toes in the 91 National. I have never re watched it and it brought back some fine memories
Seagram was the smallest horse in the race and I had a rare lightbulb moment that he would win it quite a few weeks before the race and backed him several times at 100-6 at my local Coral. There were only two horses I backed when I felt I was stealing money but the little horse was one of them. It was the last time Seagram – drink distillers, I think, were sponsoring the race, hence the coincidence with the name.
Paw was attentive when I told him but he never veered from Garrison Savannah and Docklands Express but my win made him more than interested in my Party Politics the next year. As for the race I had forgotten about Oklahoma who was up there in the mix a long way. It’s an epic finish and I always had a soft spot for New Zealand after that, as little Seagram was bred there.October 2, 2023 at 01:43 #1665291Listening to the commentary, and I compared the Graham Goode version, but O’Sullivan it can be said, voiced the most appropriate apposite word bombs in a style that is and was inimitably Peter the Great – in contradistinction to plebgate Hanmer who was faultless to a John, but Julian Bonhote Wilson froze for several moments to try to find Golden Freeze – it was almost like the Grand National was on hold until he checked his list of names. The great steeplechase is full of thrills and spills and Julian epitomized this National upset to exhibit and let us all know he was once a baby, and was human, and prone, and could fall badly on his nose, just like Rhyme n reason, and somehow both got up and carried the big show on. Mr Wilson though didn’t win the race like Rhyme n reason but somehow did something quite unusually just as spectacular – he stopped time.
Like Don Quixote, Bonhote could successfully charge at dragons, disguised as windmills, and come out the other side with his brill cream still intact.
