Alessandro Volta another Coolmore 3 year old went into Melb Cup with decent form in Derby trials ,Epsom and Irish Derby decent efforts . Went out hard at Flemington if I recall correctly , had a tough race . 9 races after finished in last 3 8 of them , last in majority of them . Some of those very average races . Dropped many many kilos off his best form after Melb Cup run .

Trainer states horse don’t like being crowded in races , so he gets sent round at 150 to 1 in 30 runner field . There was a good chance he was going to be very crowded , big prize and fair enough they rolled dice but struck me bit odd .

Tower of London still in Melbourne Cup , some of the three year olds that run well there don’t come back well , Rekindling done little after , Tiger Moth ran last only race after and sold for couple grand later I think , Il Paradiso had two more races last in both . Deauville Legend hasn’t won race since he ran in it last year . There’s a few others just vanished after a tough run in Cup .

Ryan Moore gets on Mr Waterville at Rosehill this weekend , roughie for Cup and got to run his way into race via win penalties or ballot exempt wins but ran well behind Just Fine over mile first up in OZ and Just Fine one of the red hot horses in OZ at moment .

The field sizes that Istabraq beat to win at four festivals , there’s a chance that if CH wins three Champions the runners won’t total the 17 Istabraq beat off one year .

    Melb Cup weights out.
    Desert Hero 51.5 .
    Vauban 55
    Absurde 53 .
51.5 nice . 55 for Vauban looks good too .
Top weight Gold Trip is on 58.5
Nice long straight for Desert Hero to run past the non stayers .

Waipiro aka J072 on HKJC website at this stage , has had the Op .
Owner has Chateau running tonight , he won’t get too many more chances I’d guess .

He seems to go on any ground looking through form , surely will pass the scans as lightly raced and William Haggas has it all over these Aussie trainers , he brought ex hurdler down last Autumn and won decent race first up .
When Serpentine runs decent forth yesterday giving 6 kilos to winner you know the ranks are flimsy , and that’s no disrespect to Serpinetine as he’s been pretty gallant out in OZ . Next three weeks it starts to pane out once the stayers get out to trips , Hoo Ya Mal for example ran over seven and second up over mile in group 1 yesterday and he has gone ok , clearly just being set for later so he’s in the mix .

The Aussies have wised up to the Northern 3 year olds a bit after Cross Counter and Rekindling , but that was a cracking run from Desert Hero when looking at Melbourne Cup . He will get 52 kgs , maybe 53 kg I’d guess , that will see him go very close . They might load up Vauban with weight , Soulcombe looks in good nick but he looks in and out horse ,not much else stands out so far down these parts . Hope stable bring him , they love William Haggas and Aussie Tom . Will be big news if they head down with Kings horse .

He threatened to strip if he won Melbourne Cup few years back , odd way to celebrate a big win , John Singleton does a better celebration , he wins a big race he shouts the whole crowd the next drink . He done it on Slipper day few years back , not cheap .

TBF i didnt mind the guy when he was interviewed and liked to see his horses win , just had off button ready for TV in case he started stripping .

According to a report , the best horses got best hay , the others not so good hay .So he’s a billionaire skimping a few bob on hay .
So those 12 horses banned for three years , so that’s them done . I suppose they will track the aftercare of the horses involved because the future for them won’t be in racing .

Thanks LD , got my years merged .
Was it the FUs Jeans Chase at some point ?
Going to dust off the big box of racebooks in next few weeks ,try relive the good old days .
Loved old Amrullah back in day at Sandown , jumped round Sandown a bit , pretty sure he never did get his head in front .
Remember Josh Giffords horses , always seem bigger than anyone else’s , Jim Joel had plenty runners there , Midnight Count was on I liked .

Burrough Hill Lad won on same card in 86 , I am sure it was a walk over though . Iam sure I saw him walk over at some point at Sandown . Off subject though but Sandown in the 80s and 90s really brings back some great if a bit hazy memories of good days for me .

Fantastic Bluemanc . I’ve still got the racebook from that day . Haven’t dug it out for years , boxed with tons of others in garage , I think See You Then was on the cover of that one .

The RP early odds assesment has the unraced runner odds on . His full sister ran 6 times , closest to winner 26 lengths , earnt nothing and shortest odds in the 6 races 100 to 1.
I like Newton Abbot but surely with that card it should be free entry .
Was there many years ago , selling winner think it was called Dreamcoat went for about 10k, decent for August selling hurdle at NA ,Dreamcoat would lap these .
