Sad to see Waipiro off overseas, but good luck to him and his new connections.
As someone who enjoys racing not only from a betting angle but also as a fan of the sport, I find the ever-increasing disappearances of talented and promising horses to overseas frustrating. It detracts considerably from the “narrative” of the season (for want of a better expression!).
June 30, 2023 at 23:42 #1653950How did we ever survive as a species without terms like “narrative?”
I put “narrative” in the same modern box I place expressions like “reaching out” (aka contacting people).
Not that I label said box “pretentious” or anything.
Anyway, I know what you mean, Marlingford – horses that in the past would have won race A, then gone on to races B, C and D instead buggering off to the Far East is a tad discombobulating for traditionalists!

June 30, 2023 at 23:59 #1653954I 100% agree!
There is NOTHING wrong with “contact!”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 1, 2023 at 09:52 #1653975I was surprised when Sissoko was purchased out of Donnacha O’Brien’s yard after splitting Luxembourg and Bayside Boy in the Vertems – he looked to have a bright future here.
However, it does not seem to have worked out as it looks like he picked up an injury. The Hong Kong Jockey Club site have him down as ‘retired’ under his new name of’Packing Sissoko’ – whatever that means.
The Racing Post database lose trail of the HK exports once their names are changed. The Timeform database keep a basic track, such as Dante runner up Freemantle, who had a couple of starts in HK as Straight Forward, but will not list the name change until they actually race under the new name.
July 2, 2023 at 01:59 #1654108Mogo Magic bolted in , very green , done it the hard way on the lead ,maybe on this occasion owners were right , targeting a restricted 2 million buck race in spring , and on yesterdays run will be very hard to beat if he gets the rails .
As for Packing Sissoko , I will keep an eye out if he pops up in OZ or NZ . Owner sends a few down if they fail up there .Couple of Packing this and that going round at moment .September 17, 2023 at 07:00 #1663417Waipiro aka J072 on HKJC website at this stage , has had the Op .
Owner has Chateau running tonight , he won’t get too many more chances I’d guess .November 8, 2023 at 11:26 #1669758Waipiro is in today’s HKJC retired list. He was found injured tendon.

November 8, 2023 at 13:44 #1669764They should have left him to run in the UK. Such an exciting horse he could have run at the Breeders Cup meeting and won a decent race for them. Glad he’s ok but worried about his future. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2023 at 04:19 #1669789My guess is hes done for as racing proposition anywhere if a good young one like him is retired like that. I think its a place called Beas River where they have some space to rehab / re train retired ones . A good one like him would be worth the time and expense if there was any hope . A shame but at least HK have good retirement system .
November 9, 2023 at 14:09 #1669824That’s good to hear helcat. I wish him a long and happy life..Jac
