Rose Ravine badly hampering Crimson Embers on the run in at the Cheltenham Festival in 1985, in what is now the World Hurdle. Both horses were in the same ownership, so the stewards let the original result stand!

Cancelled my direct debit tonight, although it probably wouldn’t have been taken on the due date, but just in case!

I’m not sure if I will take up the £20 subscription yet. I did watch RUK, but I also subscribed to get the SPL games and now it will be racing only. I’m much more of a jumps man than flat and I wouldn’t mind paying a one off payment of £20 for the Cheltenham Festival & the Aintree Grand National meetings, but they are probably the only 2 I would be desperate to see all the races from.

I think SC will be having sleepless nights from now until Gold Cup day next year. We always have the same every year about what the ground is going to be and if they’re going to water or not. Next year the pressure will really be on to get it right. I can imagine the Denman camp wanting the taps turned on and the Kauto Star camp wanting to keep them off. Strange position for them both to be in the same stable, as I’m sure PN would give them advice on what to do if either of the horses wasn’t trained by him. Civil war to break out next year anyone?

I’ve not read all the posts, but I suppose it’s similar to last year when Denman had the upper hand and the Kauto Star supporters, which I was one of was trying to defend his performance. Fact is KS was not right last season in the GC. Watch the replay of that race and he made at least 10 mistakes and it had nothing to do with the pace Denman was going at, as he made a lot of them before Denman pushed the thrust button. Denman certainly had excuses this year no doubt, but ponud for pound Kauto Star in my book is the better horse. Denman has the chance to do what KS did this year and regain the crown next year, but I don’t think his record will come close to that of KS, as he’s one dimensional. We’re lucky to have seen a horse like KS who has the versatility to have won at the Tingle Creek and Gold Cup distances. An absolutely wonderful horse that’s once in a lifetime, so enjoy :)

Hoping for a KS treble. Will be really disappointed if he can’t win this.

Great to see KS back on track yesterday. There will be tougher races ahead, but it was good to see him cruise round without having to come off the bit.

His biggest task will be the GC against hopefully a fully fit Denman and maybe even Neptune Collonges if he improves with being the youngest of the trio. KS will have to jump better at Cheltenham in the GC though than he did this year. He made 7 mistakes on the final circuit, some more serious than others. Does 7 mistakes equal the 7 lengths he was beat? Hopefully the ground will be decent enough as well and not the over watered ground you sometimes get.

Zarkava is better than Ouija Board and Bosra Sham surely? I can’t imagine either of them winning an Arc in any conditions and Bosra Sham was put firmly in her place over a mile by Mark Of Esteem. Can anyone imagine Henry / Raven’s Pass doing that to Zarkava? I can’t.

Due to injury Bosra Sham hadn’t run since winning the 1000 Guineas when she faced Mark Of Esteem. I find it hard to believe that she ran to her best that day after such a long layoff. In terms of ability Bosra Sham & Zarkarva are the two best filly’s I’ve seen ahead of Ouija Board.

In terms of great Arc winners, Zarkarva would certainly make my top ten. For me Peintre Celebre, Montjeu, Sahkee & Helissio would be my top four. Then I’d bracket Zarkarva in with the likes of Suave Dancer, Lammtarra, Sinndar, Dalakahni & Dylan Thomas.

Hopefully the Aga Khan decides to keep Zarkarva in training as it would be wonderful to watch her run as a 4yo. I doubt it will happen though.

All about opinions I know, but hard to believe Dancing Brave doesn’t make your top 10! Who can forget the acceleration he showed to come and win his race, certainly not me!

I got into watching racing in 1989 so my list features horses that have won from then on. I forgot to mention that in my post. :)

Fair enough then! I remember after Shergar won the Derby I thought wow, but my brother who is older said that Sea Bird was the most impressive he had seen, so people from different age groups will all have different views I suppose.

A breathtaking performance from Zarkava today, it was worth waiting for! It gave me the same feeling as watching Dancing Brave win his Arc, you just knew you had watched something special. She had anything but a smooth passage throughout the race and still won comfortably, that says it all. A great ride from Soumillon as well. What she did coming out of the starting stalls was a wee bit nerve wracking, especially when you’ve had a decent bet! Just glad she didn’t go through the tape and end up on the wrong side! Couldn’t believe the price this morning, missed the 5/2, but got 23/10 :D

Would liked to have seen Black Rock going over hurdles if he had been sent to the sales, but the last time he ran he went wrong at the end of a race at Goodwood in July. Does anyone know the extent of the injury he picked up?

My wife had the human version of the op that Denman might be having and it failed, as the problem came back. She had it done again a year later and she’s been clear of the problem for around 2 years now, so it does work, so fingers crossed for the tank :)

Seems like the low numbers had the best of it today in the SC, but I had already decided what horse I was betting no matter what it was drawn and no matter the result of the SC!

The horse in question is Ishetoo and it is drawn 19. Maybe not an obvious one at 33/1 and it does seem to be a 5f specialist, as 5 of its 6 wins have come at that distance and those 5 wins have come on good or faster.

What attracts me apart from the price is that it has won at Ayr over 6f on GS ground. The ground is obviously going to be more testing than that with it being heavy, but there’s a bit of form that gives me hope! 2 runs back the horse finished 4th at York on heavy ground over 6f and the horse reportedly stayed on strongly final furlong, nearest finish, which is encouraging. If you can handle York heavy, then I’m sure the horse can be competitive at Ayr.

Summing up, I think Ishetoo is a sporting ew bet at 33/1 and have bet it first 5 with Bet 365.

Denman is going to a specialist in Newmarket next week for tests.
