According to the front of tomorrow’s RP

No story on their site as yet but have a look at the left hand side of their page, where they show a PDF version of tomorrow’s front cover…
I’m no vet but you’d have to worry about the his long term future especially with how much effort he puts into his races and they’re hardly going to take any risks with a horse of his stature.
September 18, 2008 at 23:07 #181570Gutted for everyone involved with the horse, hopefully it’s something he can overcome quickly!
September 18, 2008 at 23:17 #181576He looked pretty porky when they showed him out at grass on C4 a few weeks ago.
It’s probably just that they don’t have enough time to get the fat off him and don’t want to rush things.
September 18, 2008 at 23:20 #181577someone has said on another thread that it’s an irregular heartbeat..I was just wondering to myself if that could be caused by the weight he’s put on over the summer,.
September 18, 2008 at 23:20 #181578Is it possible that his withdrawal is an indication of the estimated chances of Big Bucks then?
September 19, 2008 at 00:10 #181583Like Venusian said he had put a few pounds on over the summer and maybe it is the Lexus or even the Peterborough which may be his first port of call this term.
Maybe last season has caught up with him, but better to wait and see what the official line is from Paul Nicholls.
September 19, 2008 at 07:47 #181590Don’t like the sound of what I have just read in the RP – Denman "not looking good, and he lost a bit of weight rapidly". The horse was examined and found to have an irregular heartbeat and is to have further treatment….
September 19, 2008 at 08:03 #181594Desperately disappointing to think Denman will now miss the Hennessy, but I just hope that there is nothing sinister in this, and that he makes a return in good health later in the season (though TDK’s post doesn’t sound very promising
).September 19, 2008 at 08:49 #181596Big shame for the horse and his connections. Hopefully the horse will fully recover. It will ofcourse open up the Hennesy to all sorts!
September 19, 2008 at 09:16 #181599Sounds as though it could be as a result of a virus.
Perhaps its time to get on Alan King for the trainers championship.September 19, 2008 at 09:21 #181601Totesport reacted to the news by pushing Denman out to 11-8 while Kauto Star is now 100-30 from 9-2.
Fellow Nicholls inmate and last season’s third Neptune Collonges is 13-2 from 8-1.
September 19, 2008 at 09:23 #181602You know a ton more about the cycles of equine illnesses than myself, Cheekster; so if it is a virus, what kind of period could it have developed over, and, moreover, is it likely to be contagious?
I suppose what my untrained brain is mulling over here is how long Denman may have been carrying it before it became apparent to Mr Nicholls. We saw from the Channel 4 Racing footage from Ditcheat that Denman has spent the summer sharing the field with some other top-class bloodstock, and I’d hate to think he might have unwittingly incapacitated some of these as well.

Huntingdon’s shifting of the Peterborough Chase from late November to December 11th this year does buy connections an extra two and a half weeks to get Denman fit, and his participation would certainly give this ailing contest a terrific shot in the arm.
However, a 6f drop in trip and a sharper track compared to the Hennessy fall a bit short of what Denman’s optimum conditions are nowadays as far as I’m concerned; unless, perhaps, they try to get him to grind allcomers into the ground by making all at a suitably generous pace.

September 19, 2008 at 10:49 #181614If I could answer your questions Jez, I would be a very rich woman.
The only thing I could say is that if it is serious enough to affect his heart (which is a guess in any case), he would need at least 3 months out in the field to be fully over it.
You can never predict viruses, even when you are right in the middle of a yard epidemic.
Plus point is that, if a virus is the reason, with time he should get over the heart problem.September 19, 2008 at 11:33 #181618All points noted – many thanks!
Could be time for Denman’s ante-post Gold Cup backers to start mailing him some Shredded Wheat to help keep his dicky ticker healthy…

September 19, 2008 at 11:34 #181620All sounds a bit of a worry really. Let’s hope it’s just a blip but we’re all only too well aware of how fragile racehorses are.
September 19, 2008 at 11:45 #181621Denman is going to a specialist in Newmarket next week for tests.
