it has been reported in horse and hound online that denman been 4 treatmeant to make heartbet more regular and didunt need operation, returns back to pauls tomoz, so fin ges crossed…………..
September 30, 2008 at 07:11 #182828Good News and a blessing in disguise. I am really please he will miss the Hennessy as I thought they were nuts thinking of running him again and giving away lumps of weight when there is no need.
Win the important one…the Gold Cup then go for the National if you want to be nutty would be my advice to the owners.
The Gold Cup would be a bore for me if he was to miss it. Another Kauto Star V Denman clash is something every racing fan wan’t to see.
September 30, 2008 at 12:36 #182842I’m sure Messrs Findlay and Barber will be on the telephone in due course Fist…
October 1, 2008 at 20:11 #182970A further update on the recovery of Denman is available on Paul Nicholls web site. Looks like he’s still pleasing his connections in his improvement. The site is currently being updated but there is a bulletin report on Denman’s progress, which reads….
"Denman is in good form with himself since returning home from Newmarket and is eating well and is already a brighter horse. He has been out on walks about the roads and on the horse walker but we are in no hurry to prepare him for the racetrack as he is unlikely to run until the new year.
We will, however, be looking to run plenty of horses in the meantime and will start this Sunday at Uttoxeter with our first new season runners. Where Celestial Halo and Neptune Collonges will be parading at the course."
It’s good to see some of these equine heroes parading for enthusiasts at some of the tracks that they are unlikely to run.
October 1, 2008 at 20:48 #182975Is it a good card at Uttoxeter on Sunday? Even if it isn’t I’ll always go out of my way to see some of my old favourites being paraded…I’m sure it’s a meeting we’ve been to before because I can remember watching the Arc on the screen…..
October 1, 2008 at 21:19 #182977It’s honest rather than especially classy fare at Uttoxeter this Sunday, Moe, though it looks like the programme of races has been altered and the number of class 3s doubled from one to two since I last went to this corresponding meeting four years ago (http://www.neigh.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=53).
What you’ll get to see this time is;
14:30 Edge Diamond ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (4yo+, Class 4, 2m 6f 110yds)
15:05 Celestial Halo JCB Novices’ Hurdle (4yo+, Class 3, 2m)
15:35 My First JCB By Golden Bear Selling Hurdle (4-8yo, Class 5, 2m)
16:10 Solution Sales Asia Novices’ Chase (5yo+, Class 3, 2m 5f)
16:40 Scott Wilson Handicap Hurdle (4yo+, Class 4, 2m 6f 110yds)
17:10 Publicity Marketing Handicap Chase (4yo+, Class 4, 3m)
17:40 ‘I Love My JCB’ DVD Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase (4yo+, Class 5, 2m 5f)Uttoxeter is second preference for me at the moment, with the Huntingdon card, Mascot Grand National and all, a more likely port of call.
Nevertheless, there are certainly one or two horses I’m hoping will appear at the Staffordshire venue on Sunday; not least Sexy Rexy, who I gave as a likely next-time winner in another racing organ, but who has been on the sick-list for two whole years since! I’m sure Nigel T-D will have him spot on despite the absence, though.
Methinks at least two races on the card might me sponsored by Nizlopi.

October 1, 2008 at 21:33 #182978it was 2004 that we went to this meeting….I think I was the only person at Uttoxeter that had backed Bago to win the Arc so had to stuff a hanky in my mouth when he won! As we’re planning to go to Chepstow the week after we may have to give Uttoxeter a miss [times is hard in these ‘ere parts], but I should support my local track and the car needs a run…
October 8, 2008 at 06:01 #184014Another encouraging report from Paul Nicholls on the improvement of Denman.
"Denman is improving rapidly and looking better day by day. We hope to start cantering him next week and since getting over being sick from the treatment he had is now back to being as bright as ever."
It all sounds very enthusiastic and good for Denman. I hope the news keeps improving and he’s back on the track as soon as he’s fit enough. I suppose the real acid test comes when he has to go through the rigous of an actual race.
October 8, 2008 at 15:33 #184045PAUL NICHOLLS On Denman
He’s fine. Today’s the first day I’ve seen him bright and well and back to himself so fingers crossed. I was just baffled as to why he was going so poorly.
It took us a month really to work out what the problem was. He was just not going anywhere near like he used to. Then he started losing weight quite rapidly and wasn’t eating.
Basically the electronics of the heart weren’t quite working properly. It sounds serious, but it’s actually not. Once it’s put back right, then they are normally there from then onwards. He’s back to normal now. He was just under-performing. He struggled to go up the hill once so I just let him go round and school one morning just to see if I could brighten him up a little bit.
He went round four or five circuits and was absolutely out on his feet and that just was not him, so there was obviously something drastically wrong. Thank God we got it put right.
I probably won’t run him until the Aon Chase in February. I’m going to take my time with him. It’s quite possible we might run him once or twice after the Gold Cup as it will be the back end of the season and he won’t have done too muchOn Kauto Star
He’s in really good form. This time last year, he just didn’t come to himself. He didn’t run very well at Aintree. I’d have to say he is back to his very best.
Clifford (Baker, head lad) rides him every day and he’s astounded with the way he looks and the way he’s going and he’s probably going to head to Down Royal on 1 November.
Things have changed – with Denman’s problem, he’s got to come back from that and I actually think Kauto’s as good as he’s ever been and he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with.October 9, 2008 at 13:44 #184101Ruby Walsh reckons That Kauto is back to himself…..Hopefully so….Roll On…..As for Denman he is unfortunately not himself…..And may not return to himself this season…
October 9, 2008 at 16:22 #184119Massive weight carrying performance after the Gold Cup? Sandown Gold Cup perhaps or the National?
I know its unlikely but I think if he won that off top weight with everything else out of the handicap it would be the most remarkable performance i’d have ever seen!!October 10, 2008 at 16:36 #184222Welcome to the forum Gigginstown.

(graysonscolumn)I attended Uttox and found the 4.10 Nov Ch. the most interesting race on the card.
The beautiful Mrs Gaye Smith was in attendence to see her nice novice Berings Express run (hubby Derrick was in Paris to see Mastercraftsman) but looked concerned by the strapping rival that was Dream Garden who duly won the race very comfortably.
Both should be followed for a while IMO.
