Your not the first person to mention or think that , the flaw is I reckon most Americans now don’t care ….

April 26, 2026 at 11:48 #1764913“It’s not entirely beyond the realms of possibility that the episode was staged to boost his abysmally-low ratings”.
That was my first thought too. Especially as it has been mentioned that Orban was considering a failed assassination attempt to help him win the election. Which then (especially with Vance trying to help Orban win) made me think that Trumps last assassination attempt was staged, too.April 26, 2026 at 11:51 #1764914Will the average American remember this come November , unlikely , will the average American be furious every time they fill the car or pay for the groceries …. yes

April 29, 2026 at 07:43 #1765192I am no Royalist but that was a masterclass from the King.
Unlike many I actually didn’t have a problem with him going. Diplomacy is dealing with people you don’t like. Will it ultimately make any difference? Who knows, but not going would have been worse in my opinion. Even Trump may think twice before criticising the King (once he’s had the jokes explained to him) but pulling the visit would have allowed him to decry the move as political.
Well played, Chas
April 29, 2026 at 08:37 #1765196Yes it was good, particularly the subtle digs at Trump which pleased the assembled Democrats, and the gentle humour. His speechwriters deserve a hearty pat on the back.
As an aside: Hiitherto, monarchs here have always been referred to as simply ‘the King’ or ‘the Queen’ but now Chazza tends to be referred to in our media as ‘King Charles’. A tad strange.
April 29, 2026 at 12:52 #1765211A function of the late Elizabeth II’s long reign perhaps? My mind is certainly drawn that way as opposed to Camilla when I hear ‘The Queen’. Nobody born in or after the 1950s has any living memory of anyone other than her being the monarch until very recently.
Victoria was of course on the throne for a very long time too but tradition and formality were stronger then.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 29, 2026 at 14:48 #1765216A function of the late Elizabeth II’s long reign perhaps?
That’ll be it: Having been known as Prince Charles for decades he’s now simply morphed into King Charles.
April 29, 2026 at 17:13 #1765234The King formerly known as Prince Charles. You can do your own Purple Reign jokes.
