Geordieland. Maybe a bit long it the tooth for a change of codes as he’s nearing 8, but would maybe give him something else to think about. Can’t see them wanting to though, probably more chance of him becoming a NH stallion.

Gutted for everyone involved with the horse, hopefully it’s something he can overcome quickly!

People keep going on about the mistake KS made at Aintree costing him the race and it certainly did cost him, but it was the tactics on the day that for me cost him the race. I will have to try and watch the race again, but from memory he was ridden as if he was trying to burn the opposition off during the last circuit instead of being ridden for his usual burst of speed at the end of the race. I’m sure if he had been held on to and had made the same blunder at the second last there would have been enough left in the tank to overcome this. The reason he was legless on the run in is because Ruby had used up his energy reserves by putting the boot down on the final circuit. He might have got away with it if he hadn’t run in the GC racing this way, but I’m still at a loss to the way he was ridden that day, as the normal tactics were thrown out of the window and ultimately cost KS the race IMO.

I just hope the real Kauto Star manages to turn up in March 2009 against the mighty Denman, on hopefully decent ground and not the over watered stuff! It might not stop Denman winning again, but I’m sure KS would travel and jump better than he did this year. One worry for me though is his race at Aintree where Old Vic nailed him on the line. The worry wasn’t the serious mistake he made, it was more the way he was asked to race from a long way out that day instead of being held on to for his usual burst in the home straight. Will that effort have scarred him in any way mentally? I hope not! I would love to see Ruby being given the choice to ride either KS or Denman in the 2009 GC, his decision would tell all, but I’m not sure if he will be given that option!

A good read right enough and too much info to put on here. He produced a brochure for his open day that was cancelled due to the weather and according to the RP a donation will be made to the injured jockeys fund for every copy sold. Anyone interested can get a copy from this link :

Think you should, I’m starting to get interested again when I see the likes of this :D

Ravens Pass for me now that the ground is drying out, that is a big plus for him. Not taking much of a chance betting him ew at 4/1, but stake back if second or third, but I’m sure he will win :)

It looks like decent ground at Ayr after watching the racing replay. Ferdy Murphy was interviewed after Three Mirrors had won and he said that the horse needed good ground, so the ground looks to have gone against the mud lovers unless they get overnight rain. Ferdy also reckoned the ground would be quicker tomorrow and he thought the Alan King will not run HG if this turns out to be the case. Also talked up the 7lb claimer that is attached to Lucinda Russell’s stable, who he’s booked to ride Noir Et Vert. The owner wasn’t keen on running from almost a stone out of the handicap, but Ferdy said that if he could book a future champion jockey that could claim 7lbs could he run, so the answer was yes!

Good luck to Tony in his new venture. Always seemed to do me a favour when I needed it when visiting Perth, top jockey there. A bit surprised that he didn’t bow out at the Perth Festival in a couple of weeks time. Hope I’m not in trouble this year, no Dobbs to bail me out!

KS would have every chance of turning Denman over if he’s at peak form and he gets the decent ground he requires. The question is will he get that ground? It seems like courses are intent on artificially changing the going by watering. Certainly you need the ground to be safe, but sometimes they seem to end up with dead ground using this policy. Roll on March 2009!

All we can do is hope that both horses are at peak fitness in next years GC and we get the decent Cheltenham ground, which suits KS more and see how the race turns out.

Think it’s an excellent idea. Maybe it should be like that every year.
