Have to say, i was looking forward to Voy Por Ustedes running in the race on Boxing Day, alot before today.
After seeing Kauto Star’s performance today, i am even more excited abot Voy Por’s chance.
I think he has a great chance, looks full of it at home, had a decent run at Aintree off top weight and will go straight to the King George from that run.
Will be interesting to see if Howard Johnson will be sending Tidal Bay to Kempton for the race too.
Looks to be an interesting race ahead, on Boxing Day.
November 22, 2008 at 20:02 #191372Its like the Gold Cup its suddenly looking open.
The thing is you will now get a price about Kauto Star and lets face it if he runs and he runs to his peak he’ll run all over everything else. Tidal Bay the biggest fly in the ointment perhaps.
Voy Por Ustedes would go there with a fighting chance.
November 22, 2008 at 22:28 #191397Believe me Gaz, as much as I love VPU, he won’t see which was Tidal Bay went in the KG.
A tough, genuine and underrated horse, VPU is a top class two and a half miler these days and should just about get the trip at Kempton, but I’d expect TB to beat him over two and a half and he’ll be even better suited to three miles than Voy Por.
Kauto is still the one to beat, but I’ve said for a long, long time now that Howard Johnson’s horse is very special and he could prove just how special on Boxing Day.
November 23, 2008 at 16:45 #191515Our Vic is 31 on BetFair. Considering how open the race is behind Kauto Star (who now has questions to answer) that’s a pretty good price, to the extent that I’m now questioning his participation.
November 23, 2008 at 23:35 #191578Kauto Star has impressively landed the Boxing Day showpiece for the last two seasons. He answered his critics last year and apparently has to do so again.
Despite a disappointing effort yesterday, how many of you will actually oppose the horse in the King George?
November 25, 2008 at 02:30 #191896Friggo
re Our Vic…I was thinking exactly that…does anyone know his plans, is it straight there as last year? In one sense he is the obvious choice for the KG if you submit to the theory that Kauto will not recapture his best, I must say I do now on the grounds of the records of french breds as they reach 9.
Tidal Bay, Imperial Commander, Noland and VPU are all untried at the trip. Exotic Dancer has as many questions to answer as Kauto but does so from a significantly lower level of talent. War of Attrition probably won’t travel and last years top novices such as Albertas and AF1 must go through the Hennessy then take on the big boys at levels.
Making the assumption that Kauto does not retian the same level of ability (i know but lets assume for a moment) it is probable that a lower level of performance will be required this year. OV, if well, looks a decent prospect at 20/1+November 25, 2008 at 12:28 #191953I would think David Pipe will be going hell for leather with OV’s preperation after Kauto’s latest performance Friggo, but like you I am wondering if he is even an intended runner due to his price..Can’t see why not as he did win the Charlie Hall, so it’s not like he’s a spring horse
If Tidal Bay beats Master Minded I think we can forget him running in the KG………surely they wouldkeep him to 2 miles and not gamble with the horse.
ED ran an unusally bad race the other day and he could still be the main danger…….either that or Snoopy Loopy is a certainty for the Gold Cup

VPU can’t possibly win he hasn’t won a decent race for 14 months unless you call beating a horse who stopped like being shot a good race.
There’s alot of ifs and buts about Kauto Star but how foolish will we feel if he destroys them like he did last year and we never grabbed the 6/4.
November 25, 2008 at 16:23 #192004Fist just a question regarding Exotic Dancer – Do you think that Kempton suits him?
November 25, 2008 at 19:04 #192047Would probably have two King Georges in the bag if Kauto wasn’t around Ian.
As for Tidal Bay, it will depend on what happens in the Tingle Creek but I think they should go for the KG even if he beats Master Minded in a canter as the race is suddenly looking very winable.
And Fist – if Snoopy Loopy can win a Betfair, why can’t a far better horse in Voy Por Ustedes win a King George?
November 25, 2008 at 19:32 #192053As a devout Kauto fan I’m sticking with him for the King George but he’ll have to be much better than his last performance (and keep his jockey on board
). I also hope that Tidal Bay turns up as this is a horse with serious potential and I’d like to see how he gets on with the big boys at 3m.November 25, 2008 at 21:24 #192091Fist just a question regarding Exotic Dancer – Do you think that Kempton suits him?
I don’t Ian at Kempton you need to have instant speed to burn when the tempo quickens just to keep in the race normally about 5 out and horses who do little more than stay on often find themsleves struggling. He simply hasn’t got the toe to win in this class round there IMO..
November 25, 2008 at 21:51 #192107Kauto Star is still the one to beat. Questions were answered by him in the race last year and I don’t think there’s another three mile contest that plays to his strengths better.
Saying that, if Tidal Bay is as good as I think he is, even a prime KS wouldn’t have it all his own way against this chap.
I think whatever happens in the Tingle Creek, Howard Johnson should / will send him to Kempton. He said that it was always going to be a season for experimenting with this horse and as I expected, he started the season off over two miles-four before competing over two and possibly three miles.
I have my views on his potential Tingle Creek clash with Master Minded, but I’ll save it until that thread is started.

Kauto Star won the Tingle Creek, but as Paul Nicholls said after his first Betfair victory "I’ve been trying to win the Queen Mother with a Gold Cup horse!" As good as TB may prove over two miles, he runs as though three miles won’t pose a problem and he has a full brother that also stays the distance.
The Queen Mother is a great race to win, but the Gold Cup is arguably the ultimate for any trainer and I think HJ would be nuts not to have a crack at the KG – a race that should suit him.
Voy Por’s in with a shout – never discount him on the big occasion, and I notice Imperial Commander is listed in the ante-post market. A horse with loads of potential and Kempton over three miles will suit him, too.
Throw Exotic Dancer and Our Vic into the race and it promises to be a great renewal.
November 25, 2008 at 22:05 #192113I’m with you on Tidal Bay and if he were to run and Kauto was below par sure he could win……..BUT I can’t wait until he meets MM as I am convinced he will be the first really good horse MM has met and will turn him over which won’t do my pocket one bit of good

I’m told I’m nuts and not too worry but I am really taken by this fellow who goes a tremendous gallop when in full flight.
November 25, 2008 at 22:54 #192129I think Kauto Star is still the one they all have to beat on Boxing Day. I also think Master Minded is a better two miler than Tidal Bay – and will prove it.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 26, 2008 at 00:12 #192148I’ve been lucky enough to see Tidal Bay run 4 times (won 3 inc the Arkle) and I think he’s got some engine but is he capable of beating the Master Minded that turned up in the Queen Mother?
Not a chance IMO but I suppose its worth a try in the Tingle Creek as he’ll have the edge fitness wise on this occasion and connections need to know for sure which route to take.
The King George is a different matter – if my beloved Kauto isn’t on top of his game this fella will give him a real race…
November 26, 2008 at 03:55 #192193"The Queen Mother is a great race to win, but the Gold Cup is arguably the ultimate for any trainer"
Re Tidal Bay…all those Tingle Creeks and QMs didn’t do Moscow Flyer’s reputation any harm…not round our house anyway.
