According To Pete
has decent chasing form, goes well fresh, handles soft ground, stays all day and has a reasonable racing weight.
He’ll do at 12/1.

It was so easy to pick the winner of this last year with Imperial Commander standing out like a sore thumb. I suppose Ballyfitz could win again for the yard but he’s very short. Out of PN’s 3 you can never be sure but none make great appeal. The Irish have a very strong hand with Northern Alliance and Tranquil Sea either of which could go close but I think we could get a surprise winner here
Bible Lord ran unplaced in this last year when he was still a big baby. He looked a different horse at Wetherby this season when winning much easier than the distance would indicate. He could be very well in and just a matter of time before he wins a race like this.
Today could be the day if Nick Schofield who looks to be needing his ass superglued to the saddle doesn’t get unseated again.
November 14, 2009 at 09:02 #258592Replacing Mark Grant with Nick Scholfield – out of the frying pan intot he fire springs to mind for Andy Turnell
November 14, 2009 at 09:33 #258594Ballyfitz – Would be worried about his overall ability at this level. He’s not the best jumper in the world either.
Tranquil Sea – For me he’s a bit of a soft horse for todays attritional conditions. Mullered twice already at Cheltenham, the Poplar Chase win has been overrated considering all his main market rivals were having prep runs for bigger targets later and the first 3 were within 2 lengths on heavy ground that day.
Chapoturgeon – Big claims on all known form but you’d go skint backing front of the market horses in these races over the long term
Tatanen – Couldn’t have him at the trip at this price and doesn’t look in love with the game .
Northern Alliance – Considering his handicap mark was Listowel his big day, could Ruby have ridden him today?
According To Pete
– Loads of stamina, goes at the track and on the ground, is nicely weighted, ability wise still unexposed over fences and has obviously been prepped for today…. 12/1 on Betfair
November 14, 2009 at 10:19 #258597Northern Alliance looks likely to slog around today for me. I have Knowhere e/w as well.
So thats the two to avoid for now
November 14, 2009 at 10:32 #258599I’ve just watched a re run of the Jewson; Chapoturgeon was very impressive..
November 14, 2009 at 11:01 #258600Tricky now that just about every trainer has concerns about the ground
Cant have Ballyfitz. Ground and course form does not compensate for his so so jumping. A bad favourite. According to Pete has been backed well this morning but so often horses that go beyond the northern circuit seem to get found out. Im not sure…
Would appear that the ground is genuinely against My Petra and poquelin. Im not sure Chapoturgeon should be so short. His last run was disappointing which ever way you look at it.But he seems to hold the Irish runners. Out of the nichols one i would go for Tatenen, but again theres the worry about his attitude.
But think at 14’s or so its the King runner for me. His have needed the run, but I sense from comments he has this one ready now
November 14, 2009 at 11:14 #258604Ballyfitz has a tremendous 1st time out record. Also goes well on soft ground. For that reasons he is a worthy contender. I haven’t had an outright single on him but he is my scoop 6 selection for the race.
I like Tarotino. The ground isn’t ideal but at 12-1 the price is too big so I have had a small each way.
I can see there being a few long priced winners at Wetherby, Cheltenham and Uttoxeter today.

According To Pete has been Pricewised at an imaginary 14/1.
I’ll swerve him in favour of
Tarotino
, though the ground does worry me slightly.
November 14, 2009 at 14:46 #258630Happy with that, why couldnt he have done that in the jewson.
November 14, 2009 at 14:48 #258631Got to hand it to O’Grady. I thought this horse had fallen out of love with the game last year. He’d probably get three miles on better ground.
How strong a race was that Drinmore last year!
November 14, 2009 at 16:17 #258635Great training performance – certainly proved a few people wrong (definitely including myself). Very good performance.

My fella never got a run…thankfully
Would have taken a real good one to beat TS today. The one thing that put me off backig him was a few of the Irish lads fancied him big time for the Drinmore and Trafford Lad turned the form with him on it’s head. Just wondered if he was a flash in the pan but obviously not.November 14, 2009 at 17:56 #258656EOG was saying that a few days after he won that novice hurdle at Punchestown he was spooked by a pigeon and he bolted and fell in the yard. They thought at the time that he’d broken his shoulder and he was stood in his box for three months.
Looks like he’s only coming back to himself now.
November 14, 2009 at 23:41 #258696Timeform said TS looked poor in his coat for the Jewson which partly explains the poor run on the track.
I was waiting for the postal strike to calm down before I purchased my Timeform Perspective this season, so was late getting it. Had an ante-post bet totally off my own back on TS, because I am a fan of both Joncol and Trafford Lad (who he beat on reappearance) and was suitably impressed.
Strangely enough when my Perspective came this week Timeform weren’t complimentry about TS’s chance. I almost laid it back and was too embarrassed to say anything on these pages. (Hold em would have been a better result for me though).Thank you Posties!
(sorry about the aftertiming, just thought it was a good story).
Value Is EverythingNovember 15, 2009 at 05:52 #258703I read on the betfair forum something along the lines of Tranquil Sea ran badly last season because he was pissed off he didn’t get his summer holiday, and instead spent 3 months in his box.
