    See the attached link http://www.olswang.com/newsarticle.asp?sid=110&aid=1991

In my view, chances are that the Government will announce in January that the Levy will be rolled over for one year but that they intend to abolish it within a couple of years – racing will then be in a difficult position.

Zebra – He’s won over tomorrow’s trip more than once, so I have no fears about the trip tomorrow.

Yes but at Pau (twice) and at Taunton at 1/2, 2/5 and 1/5 so not in competitive races over a stiff track

This is a horse who Nicholls stated today, he fancies each way for the Queen Mother. To be anywhere near the front 3 in the Queen Mother, Granit Jack has to win tomorrow off 133 if my memory serves me right. I really think he’s a good bet even at 4/1

Except the Queen Mother is 1/2 mile shorter – Granit Jack may well win but I don’t think he’s great value and I will probably go for L’Antartique

He’s a wealthy Scottish architect who had decided to go into racing in the last 2-3 years. He’s also got flat horses with John Oxx I believe

I’m hoping that after today’s AIG, the trainer will decide to run Hardy Eustace in the Stayers’ as I think he’d have a very good chance. Although you’re taking a risk he’ll stick with the Champion, you can get 25/1 with Ladbrokes.

I’m also an owner with Hen and echo Shadow Leader and Rory’s comments. I think it’s fair to say that she does not really aim to have a stable full of good handicappers and what she really wants are top quality chasers. Indeed, at the end of each season she always encourages her owners to sell some horses which are decent but are not going to make the grade. So I think it’s wrong to compare her with a trainer who makes his/her name by trying to win handicaps

Seagull – I think you’ll find that they are paid a fee by PA in return for any rights they may have in the SP

Yes some people will pay for Timeform (now owned by Betfair) and Raceform (owned by the Racing Post) but it’s not racing that owns that data and the amounts punters pay for this information is a tiny fraction of racing’s funding needs

OK there are 2 reasons (at least) why that wouldn’t work. (1) If punters had to pay for racing data, it would mean that a proportion would instead choose to bet on things other than racing – so a counterproductive route for racing to take (2) racing probably can’t control access to race data either practically (because there’s always going to be someone (probably an offshore site) that will obtain the data and make it available for free); and legally (because of anti-monopoly laws – see another case Attheraces v BHB).

To try and cut a very long story short, racing has been down this path before. The BHB decided that selling data rights to bookmakers was the way to fund racing and campaigned to abolish the Levy. The Government agreed to do so and the BHB sought to extract money from bookmakers in the UK and overseas in return for a licence of data rights. that led to the William Hill case which said that the BHB didn’t have any rights in the data to sell. As a result, racing ended up campaigning for the Levy to stay and, just before Christmas, the Government agreed to this

I would say his horses are irrelevant! But, more seriously, Twiston Davies having had a very good run at the beginning of the jumps season has now not had a winner for 37 races and only 4 placed out of his last 18.

Yes it’s true that there are all kinds of ways you can assess stable form but nevertheless it’s pretty clear when a stable is in or out of form

The contribution they make to British racing is through the Levy which, for them, is 10% of their commission on British horseracing bets.

I used to get them each year but haven’t for 2 or 3 years now. Main reason is that I never really got round to reading them!
