If Soumi is riding Shirocco, then who rides Rail Link?

Presume Dettori now has a choice between Rail Link & Sixties Icon?

    All very childish.

Seems like it’s okay to provoke going by who wasn’t banned.

No-one comes out of this looking good..

Wasn’t it when he won the grand national on Rough Quest, he said something like "that was the most exciting 8 minutes of my life" to which his then wife replied "what would he know – he never lasted 8 minutes in his life!". Fantastic.

They split shortly after I heard:cool:

On paper it looks an absolute vintage renewal.

For me, possibly the biggest factor to take into account will be the ground. Slow underfoot conditions would play into the hands of Hurricane run and Shirocco. Faster conditions and Deep Impact would have a favourites chance followed closely by Rail link.

Rail Link posted a seriously quick time in the Grand Prix de Paris, and if (unlikely though it seems) the ground is quick, and with the generous weight allowance for 3 year olds, he would have to have a fantastic chance. It’s important to remember what exactly the Prix niel is – a trial. Fabre never has his Arc hopes anywhere near fully wound up and they will never put up a visually exciting performace. Rail Link is relatively unexposed as a 3 yo and you would hope there would be further improvement to come although that would need to be considerable to beat HR, Shirocco et al.

Deep Impact has been visually without equal, and again with quick ground would have a great chance. However, his style of racing held up and wide will not be suited to the Longchamp straight. I would expect him to finish fast but I have reservations about Mr Take. Racing wide around the sweeping turn into the homestraight will mean DI will need to be at least 2 lengths superior to the rest of the field … unlikely imo.

Shirocco must have a great chance…with conditions likely to suit (I think he’s 2/3 pounds better on softer ground), and with the horses uncomplicated style of racing reducing the possibility of a hard luck story, he rates for me a much better proposition than Hurricance run, who has been largely unconvincing this year. HR has tended to run in snatches this year, will need luck in running and is running against a potentially much better field than the corresponding race last year. The jockey booking for Shirocco is also a major plus as Dettori is excellent from near the front (would imagine Shirocco sitting just a place or 2 off the leader) and Soumi is fantastic at Longchamp.

2 relative outsiders are Pride, who without having the reputation of the market leaders has almost comparable form this year, and Sir Percy, who is still unexposed and capable of at least as much improvement imo as Dylan Thomas but think a little more would be required to win. Pride also has the unfortunate knack of sometimes finding trouble which for me makes her a slightly less attractive betting proposition.

I think connections of sixties icon are wasting money with little chance of recouping it by supplementing the Leger winner. If the aim for the Roys is to have a runner in the Arc, by all means go ahead but there are at least 6 horses with much, much stronger claims.

All in all, a potentially amazing race, of true championship quaity. Can’t wait :)

IMO it was a great shame that Paul Nicholls chose to run him when he clearly had physical problems on his final start. Maybe this sad conclusion will serve as a reminder that some things are more important than winning (or indeed losing) a trainers championship.
Exactly.

Am quite bored at work so looked up an old thread.

    What is happening with Shawanda??

Anyone fancy Rail Link for the Arc? Perhaps it might be worth getting on before the Prix Niel as that doesn’t look the strongest renewal..

Quote: from underscore on 2:05 pm on Sep. 7, 2006[br]Kingscliff above KK is just plain silly, nevermind the BoS issue. Is the rating an overall rating or is it the highest rating expected? How do they come up with the rating Grassy?
How do they come up with the rating indeed? Just bizarre. KK was mightily off colour that day, had a nail stuck in his foot (I think) and still wasn’t that far behind Kingscliff. Neither sense nor reason behind that rating…

EC, couldnt agree more about Sixties icon.

Am I the only one who thinks Red Rocks is massively overpriced at 5/1? Especially as he’s the only horse with proven group 1 form. That second to Rail Link could look pretty impressive after the Prix Niel – pity we have to wait until Sunday to find out!

With the ledger reduced by 155 yards, surely stamina will be much less of a factor. Would anyone agree with the assertion that RR simply went too early in the Great Voitegeur and got mugged? Was RR fighting back at the finish?

Surely Red Rocks or Jadalee to be placed are much better bets then Sixties icon to win?

I’m not sure of Red Rocks stamina insofar as the champion stakes was being considered, and perhaps he was outstayed by Youmzain.

Also, Ask and the AOB horses don’t even compare to group 3 level on what they have achieved thus far, or even by taking into account any potential showed??

I see that Simon Crisford stated that at least 75% of Godolphins very expensively assembled two year olds will remain unraced this year.

He cited the fact that they had to stop work with them in May as the main reason.

    Bizarre….

His run in the Irish Derby suggested to me he needed more than 1m2.

Never mind Dandy, what if you were one of the owners?

Isn’t this the second administrative error by the Nicholls team in recent weeks? Machinist I think?

    Very unprofessional.

I see Belenus has just continued Godolphin’s amazing run. Did anyone manage to see it?

They really are on fire at the moment and if the miracle of their 2 year olds appearing and turning out to be talented actually happened, what chance Frankie running Ryan moore close?! Stranger things have happened… ;)

Great post. I was at Goodwood last Saturday and found t strange to say the least that all people spoke of here was value, etc. Surely everyone would want to talk of the best flat race I have seen in a long, long time?? Seems not to be the case.

Favourite races I can remember right now:
Desert Orchid winning the Gold Cup, just amazing how many times he looked beaten and with everything against him. The post races scenes were just incredible.

Dubai Millennium’s Dubai World Cup. Just amazing.

I loved Alamshar’s King George victory, fantastic field trounced.

Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop and Well Chief in the Tingle Creek. Unforgettable.
