Does anyone know why Godolphin haven’t had a 2YO runner yet? And are they planning to have any? A couple of years ago their juveniles were scooping up tons of races but I can’t even remember if they had any last year either?
Any ideas?
August 14, 2006 at 11:01 #75398They have run one this year called Mizzle that looks nothing out the ordinary based on her third and sixth in fillies maidens at Yarmouth and Kempton.
August 14, 2006 at 11:03 #75399They’ve had one so far Mizzle who finished third at Yarmouth on debut and has been unplaced since at Kempton.
August 14, 2006 at 11:22 #75400Suroor was interviewed on RUK and he stated something like the 2yo’s were backward, but coming along nicely and won’t be out until around end of Aug/Sept

August 14, 2006 at 11:29 #75401Backward? Bizzare when you consider the amount of Storm Cats they bought last year.
August 14, 2006 at 11:31 #75402If you look on their website it says they only have one in training… I was on there the other day and couldn’t believe it, I assume they have others but as they haven’t raced yet they are not mentioned

Better PR than using the phrase ‘ruined’.
August 14, 2006 at 12:37 #75404I wonder how many they acutally have.. IT could be of course that since there horses seemed to have picked up somthin, they could be slower then the older animals to come out of it..but perhaps im being too kind

August 14, 2006 at 13:47 #75405Didn’t they have something like 200 2yo’s in the yard which is why they built more stables (and are still trying to acquire some more?) Maybe I’m totally wrong again, but considering the money that is pumped in, you’d expect them to have had more than the one at this point of the season.
Maybe it’s the virus thing, but it just feels strange that the flat season is missing the boys in blue.
On another note, we haven’t really seen AOB having the same number of 2YO winners either and apart from HRE none have really stuck out.
August 14, 2006 at 14:06 #75406Isn’t it great to see Godolphin struggling? Can’t stand them, hate what they stand for, hate the way they buy top two year olds, long may the lull continue.
On the subject of two year olds I’d like to know where all the good two year old colts are surely there are way better than we’ve seen so far. Michael Stoute where are his? Aidan O’Brien’s look nothing special so far, we haven’t seen a two year old who would win an average 2000 Guineas so far. They look a poor bunch upto now IMO.
Has anyone heard of any particular talking horses?
Which is?
Buying it seems every decent two year old that isn’t theirs, introducing or trying to top class dirt racing which I don’t like, creating the Dubai Worrld Cup which I also don’t like, Franki Dettori’s showoff attitude ………….. the list goes on.
I don’t mind them having quality two year olds as long as they breed them themselves or buy them as yearlings but when a relatively average sized owner gets a decent two year old and they throw their cheque books at them it really gets under my skin. It’s like Chelsea buying success, I know everything is a business these days but sport is still sport I wish people would respect that.
August 14, 2006 at 14:40 #75409You must dislike McManus as well and you must have felt a bit irked to see Hurricane running doing well??
I sort of know what you mean but this is overall why I prefer national hunt racing although at least there has been one or two fairy stories this year with the classics

August 14, 2006 at 15:07 #75410Ballydoyle alone have two better classic prospects already than HRE in the shape of Duke of Marmalade and in particular Trinity College. Stoute and co have let to unleash their select choices too.
August 14, 2006 at 15:26 #75411
any chance the storm cats have been sent to albertini for training
suroor now has neil graham as assistant trainer if he is to training as to what his wife is to television presenting it may explain goldolphins dull performences of late
August 14, 2006 at 17:39 #75412I e mailed Godolphin a few weeks ago asking why they don’t have their 2yos on their website, but unfortunately didn’t get a very interesting answer, apart from the fact they’ll list each one on the site as soon as they’ve made their debuts. There are no Godolphin 2yos in the Autumn entries either although no doubt if they get one good enough for a Group One they’ll supplement it.
Overall the Godolphin 2yos have struggled the past few seasons although this time it’s shocking in comparison. While the virus or whatever they had in the yard will probably have had something to do with the lack of 2yo runners, there’s something extremely odd about the censorship of the horses in their yard…
August 14, 2006 at 17:44 #75413They have half a dozen or so in the 2yo Trophy at Redcar and also about a million in next years Derby (including the megabucks Tranquility Lake colt).
