In general, HK press and racing fans think this is acceptable.
The connections always emphasised avoiding kickback as it is the first time for Romantic Warrior to run on dirt. Taking 5 wide in final corner just followed the instruction of connections. Also, They decided to skip Dubai World Cup long before Saudi Cup due to heavy kickback in Meydan.
I believe he was beaten by a better dirt horse. Following Forever Young was no way to beat him.
Surely no Royal Ascot nor Irish Derby for him as he’s probably in quarantine stables and waiting for flight to HK.
His new owner is Peter Lau, also the owner of Romantic Warrior who just won 5 Group 1s in a row (including Cox Plate last October and Yasuda Kinen last Sunday). Capulet would have a new name as Romantic XXX and be targeted for HK Derby.
Also, it is rumoured that another 3yo from Coolmore has been bought by another HK owner.

I think this case is so ambiguous that nobody outside HKJC stewards have full detials of the case.
Local media reported one trainer and one former horse owner provided their statements in this inquiry. However there is no mention at all on their roles in this inquiry.
It just looks suspicious.
Waipiro is in today’s HKJC retired list. He was found injured tendon.
https://twitter.com/Ian_R_Malpass/status/1722168565623832635?t=PHBMycbZkTL2GNQZfmzAOQ&s=19Not sure if he will be sent to other countries to race again in long term future.
HKJC website is not useful for tracking “retired” horses.
You need to check other jurisdiction’s records for any records after HK career.
I think Japan set the golden standard. A field of 18 is always loaded within a minute.
Japanese horses are always well-behaved as they always get a stall test. For Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, barrier trials are very common and they can be treated as a stall test.
In Hong Kong, a field of 14 is usually loaded within 2 minutes but punters always feel too much and they can easily use Japan as better example.
A very good story, AP.
One more point: Alkaased was the last non-Japanese horse to win the Japan Cup.
German Derby start is related to World Pool (initiated by Hong Kong Jockey Club) as it and Irish Derby meeeting are included in World Pool. So German Derby started before start of whole Irish Derby meeting.
@triptych It is quite uncommon if any big guns are interested for a Group 3 winner, even at Royal Ascot. Also, Siu family would be very keen to keep Waipiro as Derby hope in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong’s area is just 1,000 sq km. Surely no place for breeding. When Singapore (with similar size of Hong Kong) stops racing for building new homes, you can say it is quite lucky to have 2 racecourses in Hong Kong (especially 1 in city centre).
Another report from Asian Racing Report:
“Multiple first-hand sources told Asian Racing Report that at last Friday’s meeting with trainers, Lim was asked directly when she first knew about the closure. Her response was “2022.””
“Lim let slip that she did not know that the trainers are not the owners of the horses in their stables.”
New definition of ignorant and mismanagement!

COMMENT: Singapore Turf Club officials should silence rumour mill
STC is under full control of the government. With Singapore Airlines (also controlled by the government) pulling plug of the International Cup several years ago, the writing was on the wall already.
Also, the locals were not attracted by the sport and STC is not allowed to promote the sport locally. That’s why you cannot find many people in the race meeting there.
That comes as a surprise when Macau continues racing with fewer punters, lower prizemoney and fewer horses.
Below is a tweet from Simon Rowlands:

A similar case happened in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. The race was declared void.
When the race was declared weigh in, were the stewards aware of the gate issue? I think you could not call a void race after weigh in signal was given. Or when did the stewards found out that gate issue/
May 16, 2023 at 16:47 in reply to: At what time exactly was Colevade withdrawn for the 5:10 Newcastle? #1648017Some points to note:
1. Stewards received report from “the Club’s Department of Racing Integrity and Betting Analysis”. It is not known if such bet was put into HKJC’s pool or other pools. If the bet was on the pools outside HKJC’s pool, it could be a criminal act. Also, Silvestre only facilitated the bet for Borges.2. According to local media, the bet was HKD 20,000 win on a 18-1 chance. Why Borges had such confidence on such horse?
3. Below is the link of the replay:
https://racing.hkjc.com/racing/video/play.asp?type=replay-full&date=20230426&no=06&lang=engSilvestre took the lead early and Borges followed Silvestre in second place. Did Silvestre deliberately made the running for Borges?
I think Juddmonte clarified that Cal-dian is correct pronunciation.
