Well done for the baby Dash bigG.
Grown up version all too quick for my pairJune 3, 2023 at 15:42 #1650294Got them both Green
June 3, 2023 at 16:10 #1650299ITV just shown that all the stalls did not open simultaneously with the stewards looking into it.
The more I know the less I understand.
June 4, 2023 at 10:48 #1650443I went out after the Dash and did not realise about the issue with the stalls. I have just seen it on “Luck on Sunday”.
I realise I am open to accusations of pocket talking due to my bet on Ancient Times but there has to be a case for this race being void. Perhaps the horses drawn from stalls 17 to 20 would not have won anyway but they had no chance from the moment the race started.
Every punter knows they are going to back a lot of losers but anything you back should at least have a chance of winning.
June 4, 2023 at 10:53 #1650447I was on Lihou the write up says “stalls opened fractionally late” but the trouble is the jockey anticipates it opening and goes forward the fraction puts the horse on the back foot being flat footed as a double whammy

June 4, 2023 at 12:24 #1650461I don’t think they can categorically say they had no chance. Horses miss the break plenty of times and still run big races, some even win having missed it badly. Its obviously not a good look but I’m not a fan of these justice refunds, its a horse race and stuff happens. I’d be much happier if bookmakers did away with all these marketing gimmicks and actually started laying bets.

If something then happens in the race, then that is just tough luck. We can all deal with that. But I do not think it is unreasonable to expect all the stalls to open at the same time and to have a level playing field at the outset.
These horses had their chances compromised before the race had even started. What if one of the horses had to lead to have any chance?
June 4, 2023 at 12:35 #1650468He’s not everybody’s (including mine at times) cup of tea, but that young fella Icy has a wicked sense of humour on him and I liked his tweet on the subject: https://twitter.com/icyestretro/status/1665004892799352832?s=46&t=9A5WJ8LWWKFVa–CgDUdkA

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 4, 2023 at 12:43 #1650471I completely agree CAS, it’s absolutely crazy to just say it’s just a horse race and stuff happens, and not expect a refund when the stalls fail. There is no argument, there has to be refunds
June 4, 2023 at 13:00 #1650472Agree Kris. I know it would have been tough on the winners to have a Rule 4 but at least they still had a chance in the race and won.
The 4 affected runners finished 14th, 15th, 17th and 20th (last). They were all towards the head of the market and would have been well backed. Their chances were clearly blown at the start through no fault of horse or rider.
June 4, 2023 at 13:41 #1650486Apparently, ‘The stewards on the day decided the chances of the four runners in those stalls were not “materially impacted” by the start and therefore took no further action’.
Maybe if we are talking about a much longer distance race you just might have an argument but we are talking about one of (if not) the fastest 5F course in the world where bagging the stands rails position is a major advantage to winning the race.
Next they will be saying they were horses that come from off the pace so the stalls not opening at the same time actually helped them!
June 4, 2023 at 14:07 #1650489Not sure about all jurisdictions but in Hong Kong they would have been declared as non runners. Might be difficult if one actually got up and won.
The more I know the less I understand.

That’s exactly why it shouldn’t be practical. Wouldn’t we all like to get a refund if a horse is classed as a non runner but paid out if it wins. I wouldn’t put anything past the clowns running British racing though.
The race should have been void and they need to sort the stalls out instead of spouting rubbish like Shaun Parker, the head of stewarding came out with yesterday.June 4, 2023 at 15:01 #1650495A similar case happened in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. The race was declared void.
When the race was declared weigh in, were the stewards aware of the gate issue? I think you could not call a void race after weigh in signal was given. Or when did the stewards found out that gate issue/
June 4, 2023 at 15:24 #1650512Makes me think of poor Overdose who won at Longchamp on Arc day, almost broke the track record but the race was declared void just because one stall didn’t open. I’m still annoyed about it!
June 4, 2023 at 15:27 #1650514I assume the stewards have access to pictures from a variety of angles in order to monitor the race, including a head on view. I find it difficult to believe they did not know about the issue with the stalls.
June 4, 2023 at 15:29 #1650515Unless it is slowed down, very slow it would have been hard to see but how it came to light who knows.
The more I know the less I understand.
