It was never intended for Turbo Linn to be a NH horse so you can forget her returning to that sphere altogether. The only reason she ran in bumpers in the first place was that she wouldn’t go into the stalls. Now she is fine with them and has proven herself worthy of a decent sire in the future.
Thanks Colin……expecting a good run.
July 8, 2007 at 11:54 in reply to: Why look for the faster ground, on a horse who needs soft ? #106658Let’s try to put this in a way you may comprehend MM. Let’s assume you’re a plodder as a runner and find that when you run in a race you end up much closer to the other runners when you run in the mud…aside from the fact that you prefer it since it doesn’t jar your knees up so much. Now run over the same distance on a synthetic surface free of rain etc. Do you think the time you run will be faster in the mud or the synthetic surface…..regardless of which you or your knees may prefer?
"Not sure why I called Notnowcato the wrong name 3 times lol (Notnowcate)"
Not sure why you called Francome wrong 3 times either (Francombe???)
Actually Kingston, it’s a race one of my horses ran in a few years ago and finished 2nd….that’s why it’s so embedded in my memory!

1. a person suffering from cretinism.
2. a stupid, obtuse, or mentally defective person.JJ may have been going for number 2 here when he called you a cretin. I very much doubt he’d intentionally offend anyone unfortunate enough to suffer from cretinism. Hope that makes you feel better now MM.
Here’s an analysis of a race won by a relatively unfancied horse that highlights what SirHarry was saying about taking the pacemaker seriously:-
"A farce of a race – the form of which should be dismissed – with XXXXXXX XXXXXXX taking off with his rider and quickly establishing a clear lead, which he never looked like relinquishing. That he won by such a wide margin is not an accurate reflection of his superiority, but merely lends weight to the fact that all the other riders failed to shine by varying degrees. Quite how they allowed the winner to build up such a lead while they travelled at no more than a canter through the first few furlongs beggars belief, even allowing for their relative inexperience."
Yes Anzum. It was the QEII with Richard Hills on board and with a soft lead he was able to beat his stablemate Noverre.
Kingston, anyone who follows the racing game will know that the pacemaker is in the race for that very purpose so if they choose to back him it’s entirely up to them. Pacemakers have been known to win these Gp 1’s in the past. I recall Godolphin’s pacemaker Fly To The Stars doing just that several years ago, although Champery would have to improve a huge amount to be involved on Saturday.
Thanks Pete et al. Many of the lady jocks called up for the ride but we settled for Amy due to the fact that she is a very tidy rider and is good value for her claim….she also has a very good strike rate.
The plan with Gardasee is to try to nick a few more of these flat races before giving him a short break after which he will go novice chasing this winter.
Well done Hitman and Corm…glad others were on!
Thanks all. It’s always nice to have a horse who tries his best, even with limited ability. Hope he stays ahead of the handicapper for the time being.
Marz, your Fallon bashing obsession is quite frightening. I think we all know you dislike him a great deal, but are we going to have to suffer your rants every time he doesn’t win a race?
I believe you’re right Kingston.
"With reference to a ‘monkey’ for £500. It came from soldiers returning from India where the 500 rupee note had a picture of a monkey on it. They used the term monkey for 500 rupees and on returning to England the saying was converted for sterling to mean £500."
And as for Pony, this was offered as an explanation:-
"Pony comes from the time when five pound notes were white and the cost of horses or ponies and the wedding carriage and the main expenses was approx £25. People used to say "I’ll pay for the pony in white", referring to the colour of the money and the wedding. Therefore five white fivers became a pony roughly the cost of a wedding."
My sentiments precisely Pru. I was expecting logical reasoning for concluding Eagle Mountain a "huge lay" but sadly none was forthcoming.
As much as I love the quality of racing at RA, I have to go with Cheltenham. Aside from the time a friendly Irishman near the Guiness tent was asking me about a certain horse and mid sentence unleashed a vomit blast all over my shoulder, I find the majority that attend are true racing enthusiasts and very few of the races at RA will have the same anticipation and excitement that the Chelt Festival generates.
Why this kind of speculation anyway? Bin Suroor isn’t going anywhere. If we’re just starting threads for the sake of it why not start one asking "if Micheal Stoute, Mark Johnston and Peter Chapple-Hyam were to quit tomorrow, who will take over their stables?" . All as unlikely as Bin Suroor being asked to leave.
Sorry for sounding cynical Aidan, but it’s just one of your many recent topic starters that bear no relevance to what’s actually going on in racing and another example of beginning a thread because you seem to have nothing else to do. Maybe Cormack can start a fantasy section for stuff like this:biggrin:
