I do think Cheltenham has had its quality compromised somewhat.
I think the Ryanair is the only new race that was needed. Should it have group 1 status? Probably.

Thanks DavidB.
I did try and see if there was already a thread on this but could not spot one.
I can now!
Cheers

Poor ol’ Redemption – is anyone still backing him?
(I have once or twice and he didn’t fall – just got stuffed!)

FOF – nothing wrong with having an opinion mate, the lively debate is great.

Now, as for your CH book……

I do think it will be nearer 4/1 SE, Osanna and Sublimity on the day.
I think Osanna has the biggest potential to drift – can he really make ALL the running? (does he have to?)
Agreed – it is a bit of a minefield trying to predict the market – good fun though.
Do peeps think SE is nailed on to be favourite on the day?
Hmmmm….people like a Champion…and Sublimity has proved it…though I know we can crab the form/say it was a weak CH last year etc…

Can’t help feeling that OV would always find excuses as to why he didn’t win over a testing 3 miles. How many times has he won over 3+ miles? (I can only think of 1 – prev mentioned.)
Not sure about NC running a blinder – satisfactory methinks.

Interesting debate, folks!
Osanna can run a biggie in the CH. He may be able to lead without too much pestering from the rest. I do not know what the time ratings were like, but the pace looked very healthy in the Boylesports.
I think it is dangerous thinking to suggest he "nicked" the race.
Hardy E is not running in the Champion (?)
The thing about SE – is that he looks tailor made for the CH – a faster pace will help him settle better and allow him to jump more fluently, imo.
However….2/1 is a joke!
As others have said – he will be nearer 4/1 on the day imho.

I didn’t have any money on SE, low on punting funds, but I was surprised that he was 7/2 on the off – bloke from Boylesports talking on ATR said they could not give him away. (maybe bookie hyperbole somewhat…)
Considering that he pulled a bit and was pretty fresh, he did well to canter to victory.
However (always one however…
)…what DID he beat?Hardy E is a lovely beast, but patently not as good as he was (though a useful yardstick)..and Al Eile is no Champion contender imo.
Sublimity is still a danger as he has been there and done it.
I backed Osana in the Boylesprts and have a soft spot for him.
Question is: "Can Osanna get Sizing Europe and Sublimity off the bridle and keep them at bay up the hill..?"

His attitude is most admirable.

I don’t think KK gave his running at Donny and the performance at Newbury was a good one.
Not sure about the ground issue – run was too bad for ground to be a reason.

Nobby would have half a chance in the Sun Alliance.

Evening all…
Most of us agreed Our Vic was a dodgy bet.
However, imo, I do think he’ll run very well in the Ryanair Chase.
A fast run 2m 5f will be right up his street.
I also think he stays 3 miles – he won a weakish Charlie Horse in testing ground. (3m 1f ?)
It may just be a case of not liking the hill…can’t blame him, must be a right strain to go up with a bloke on your back!
One Man cantered in a couple of Gold cups and just hated the hill….
yet found it appetising over 2 miles.Zip
This race has the look of an "upset."
Our Vic could easily run a stinker – esp if testing ground. (though that looks unlikely at time of writing)
Hmm, Neptune Collonges would have a good chance if the rain arrived big stylie.
There is prob a cracking EW bet – maybe Madison DB as prev poster mentioned.

Dare I say a world where their allocation of ethnic minorities is pretty poor!
That does not mean anyone should go out of their way to find any. The same with women broadcasters. Ideally everyone should be there on merit.
The number of black racegoers is very small so it is hardly surprising the lack of broadcasters.
Stilvi – let’s deal with what you said (ABOVE).
You say that there are not many black racegoers – this is prob true, but I do not think it has any relevance to having X amount of non white broadcasters.
Are you going to refuse a minority "over" representation because there are not enough of them in the industry to justify their presence in the first place?
Can you please confirm whether or not you consider people in betting shops as part of the industry?
If you do not, fair enough, but I disagree with you.
AP – fair points – but I believe Newmarket has already staged a race that no one bets on – called the "Challenge Whip!"….I’m sure the BHB have plenty more of those in the locker:)
Would it be in British racing’s interest to be dependent solely on a powerful benefactor such as Sheikh Mohammed?
ZipStilvi – Completley incorrectly you misunderstood my point. My apologies if it was not in plain English.
Do you feel the industry should represent the people within it?
Imo, the industry includes the people in betting shops – many of whom are non-white.
Are you asserting that the people in betting shops are not part of the industry?
Personally, (if t that is your point) then I consider it prime cut ‘ollocks.
Please elucidate and I will absorb…

AP,
Maybe my question should have been: "How could racing become the multi million pound industry it is now, without betting shops?"
Ok – not all betting shop turnover is directly related to racing.
Agreed – LBO’s will ultimately become casinos catering for the complete leisure & pleasure needs.
