I do like to have a decent bank available for that week.
However, due to the wheels of death (FOBT’s) that is rarely the case.
So I’m taking a month off from those evil tin cans and hope to have roughly £100 for each day.
Of course, early results will determine whether I spend more or less than £100 on the Tue etc.

Kauto star V Denman encapsulates what is great about racing.
It is a clash that polarizes opinion and quickens the heartbeat. It is a matter of punting pride as well as winning hard earned cash that is at stake.
Kauto is undoubtedly a star, any horse that wins 2 Tingle Creeks, 2 King George’s and a gold cup is patently a freak of a beast.
Yet it really is tricky trying to quantify what that means in terms of this year’s blue riband event.
The only way I can see KS being beaten is if a horse can get him off the bridle for long enough. This would test his jumping and resolve. (not that I question his guts)
Denman could be that horse.
He is just starting to fulfill his enormous potential and maybe this year is too soon for him, but I do think he can get KS off the bridle.
Tactics are going to be crucial. Will Denman lead all the way? That would take some balls from Sam Thomas.
I do not think he has to lead. As others have said, sitting handy and kicking 5 or 6 out could be the best plan; much will be dependent on the ground come the day.
My head does say KS to win and having backed him last year I almost feel an allegiance.
However! Denman having a serious chance, better than a “one punch” fighter, I will have to go with him.
5/2 on the day would be fair enough imo, he may even drift nearer 3/1 if KS is heavily backed.
I would rather take that “risk” at 5/2 ish than the “risk” of KS at around evens.I honestly think that if Paul Nicholls HAD to tell you right now which is the better horse, he would prob say KS with the proviso that Denman could be even better and vanquish his stablemate.
Like everyone here, I cannot wait – let us hope we are not robbed of this surely momentous eyeball to eyeball battle…

She can lay me all day mate. From what I recall she’s a decent sort and i’ve never experienced fresh Irish totty before…
Keeping this clean and subtle….ladies with too much self regard are rarely much fun in that …ahem…area
Ask Ashley cole
Amusing.
So you’re saying the quiet ones are the goers?
Cheryl Tweedy may be a demon in the sack, we cannot be sure. Perhaps Cashley Cole just likes to get his end away as much as possible?
Very un-bloke like.

Congrats to BW, GT and Co on getting the value on Mastermind.
I tend to agree with a previous poster that VPU is going to be tough to beat come March.
I think the way MM won the game spirit was a bit misleading. I am not saying he nicked the race, he was superior on the day, but he did have it easy up front.
I also think VPU was not fully wound up: I know that is often an excuse which is made when good horses get beaten, but I feel that March is all that matters for VPU.
As a proven course and distance winner in the toughest tests I think he is still the one to beat.
Yes, either of P Nicholls duo could win, but at the prices I would rather back VPU each way. Very solid.

AL’s bankruptcy certainly shows that it could happen to anyone.
He seems like a nice enough chap, and I also think he was entertaining on Fantasy Football.
His racing punditry was fairly sound too.

Not looking forward to the pointless Mares race and the Fred Winter Handicap – they really dilute the quality of the occasion imo.

No probs GC and Co

One of the best performances I have ever seen was the one Baracouda put in when winning a competitive 2m 6f handicap in genuinely testing ground.
He had top weight and most of the others had nearer 10 stone (?).
He cantered to the front and held on tenaciously and the BBC reported:
Baracouda bares teeth
Baracouda left his rivals trailing in his wake to win the Tote Scoop6 Hurdle at Sandown.
The Thierry Doumen-ridden stayer easily won the two mile six furlong race in testing conditions despite appearing to tire near the line. The double Stayers’ Hurdle champion at Cheltenham was giving away 26 pounds to the rest of the field but hit the front coming into the home straight.
The French-trained 8-15 favourite held off Yogi with Alexanderthegreat third.
“He’s an amazing horse. He’s unique, part of history,” said Doumen.
“He thought he’d won the race after the last. I just had to explain to him that there was another furlong to go.”
His father, the trainer Francois Doumen, said: “It was not a necessity to run him today but he was bouncing out of his skin asking for a race and I thought, why not?
He was in another world to those horses – I’ve never had him in better form
Baracouda’s trainer Francois Doumen“Today you could see he was in another world to those horses.
“He slowed down in front because he has always been a bit worried by the crowd, but I’ve never had him in better form.”
Bookmaker Coral immediately stripped Baracouda to 4-7 from evens for a third straight Stayers’ Hurdle in March.
Tote Scoop6 Sandown Hurdle
Sandown, 2m 6f1 Baracouda (T Doumen) 8-15f
2 Yogi (G Cotter) 25-1
3 Alexanderthegreat (R Walsh) 25-1
9 ran. Dist: 2l, ½lNow that is why he was supreme.
Could IDrever do that?

You can’t blame Paul Nicholls and the owners doing what is right for them.
Would you expect to see Tyson V Holyfield 3 times a year?
I think we know how good Denman is – Ruby Walsh has chosen Kauto Star

Zip,
Ps,
Batman Returns is a pretty good film – esp when the Penguin offers to show Catwoman his flipper trick!

Some interesting alternatives mooted there guys..
The 80k Newbury event sounds tempting.

Well, obviously Tidal Bay would not be 1/4 against Noland in a match.
I just feel TB is superior over either trip.
As for Celestial Halo, well, difficult to get excited about.
Sentry Duty was impressive though and was very useful on the flat.
I believe better ground could improve him further?
Zip
Agreed – not a horse for Chelt.
Is there a 2m 4f novice at Aintree?
I know there is one for the more experienced horses.
Zip
Good post Grays.
Those that say Tidal Bay is now no good because of today’s defeat are way off the mark imo.
Chelt is a very diff kettle of fish.
As there is a choice between 2m & 3m for novices at Chelt I would probably opt for the R & SAlliance at this stage.
However, simply put: Noland V Tidal Bay in the Arkle…
TIDAL BAY WINS. (and prob the race to boot!)
Noland has it all to prove and Tidal Bay, though a bit sticky at his jumping looks more powerful and speedy. I think he will jumpy brilliantly in a fast paced race.

Interesting.
I agree about the element of a horse having a solid place chance and a great win chance which can be overpriced.
Although you do lose a bit on the place, as mentioned by other poster, I still consider these bets as good ones.
Yep, I’ve heard betting shop managers talking about these bets and the limits.
Frankly, the major chain betting shops are a joke if you want to place a decent size wager.
Perhaps smaller firms are better?
Do big hitters bet on course or over the phone?
Does it depend on how the firm “assesses” a punter and potential losshow quickly they can lay it off etc

Hmm, what a great bunch of tipsters we are!
The winner triumphed in an egg and spoon race at Wolves the other night…(?)
Would we back Tino Tino again? I didn’t see the race, was he any good at all?!
Zip
I looked at Tino Tino – worth a specualtive punt imo.
We’ll see….
