Jumped well today, although at times looked like he would run out. Surely has no chance in the Sun Alliance though. Ran over possibly the easiest 3m in Britain at Kempton in the Feltham and looks like he won’t stay the trip in a horsebox. Was beaten over 127 lengths the only time he ran further than 21f over hurdles. Ryanair or Arkle surely.
Nicholls said in an interview after today that the trip wasn’t to blame at Kempton and claimed if anything he was done for toe. Personally I think 3m is okay for him. Don’t really think he’s a SunAlliance type mind.
I would find Silverburn very hard to place at cheltenham racewise, dont think he’d cope with at least 5 or so in the ryanair, dont think he’d stay well enough in the R+SA, perhaps nicholls will keep him fresh for a race at aintree or punchestown (dont know what race) or something like that, as he has done with others in the past…
There are only two more graded novice chases over 2M 4F – the Pendil, worth £30k, at Kempton on Feb 23rd and the Future Champions, worth £45k, at Ayr on Apr 19th. Silverburn would have the same 7lb penalty in those races for todays Grade 1 win as any other runner with a win in Class 1 or 2.
I wonder if Nicholls might aim him at the £80K VC Casino Gold Cup at Newbury on March 1st over 2M 4F ?
