I still think Yanworth should be re-directed here. Thought the same last year and think the same again. And I’d think he would have a great chance too.

I feel The Last Samuri at 16/1 is the outstanding value at this moment.

He seems more or less certain to run his race. He’s higher in the ratings now but that is readily offset by the fact that he’s facing some rotten value opposition with loads of question marks about them.

Vieux Lion Rouge is my biggest potential return, having backed him at 28/1. I have The Last Samuri at 20/1 and One For Arthur at 20/1.

It’s probably going to be too lively underfoot for One For Arthur now. On the upside, it doesn’t make it such a slog for The Last Samuri under his big weight and it means Vieux Lion Rouge has more chance of lasting home.

I can’t see Blaklion reversing form with Vieux Lion Rouge, he was clearly outstayed last time and he’s quite a small horse.

There’s tons I don’t fancy and who I feel are way too short.

Just for fun I am having a wee bet on Drop Out Joe, available at 66/1, as a dark horse. He seems to go best when fresh and at 9yo he has some more class than some of those in this race. How many guys named Joe might back this on Saturday? I could see him start shorter than double carpet twice. Paddy Power offer 6 places at 1/5 the odds but only go 50/1, however the extra two places are worth the concession on the odds, with 10/1 a place if he’s in the first six home.

Drop Out Joe 50/1 each-way 1/5th odds 1-2-3-4-5-6 with Paddy Power.

    Steeplechasing, get yourself involved.

I don’t think you could call any horse outstanding value at 16/1 in the National could you?!

I’ll be sticking my pin in Saphir Du Rheu and Ballynagour this year. Maybe one more nearer the race. Thought SDR ran good race in the GC and I thought Ballynagour was travelling well in last years race.

I see The Unit carries two entries (the other a grade 3) but if he lines up here, I’d be willing to take a chance on him at 14s. He has done nothing but improve and was visually quite impressive LTO. His form behind Air Horse One looks pretty solid and even his last start had a little positive with the last home St Saviour winning next time out.

If Yanworth takes to jumping, I think hew would be of interest in either the JLT or the RSA. I genuinely think he will be a 3 miler.

All hit-and-miss for me. I think the absence of the elite group like Thistlecrack, Annie Power, Faugheen, Coneygree, etc tarnished the gloss of the meeting. I’ve not doubt that Thistlecrack would’ve decimated all before him in the Gold Cup had he not been injured.

I feel that Altior missed a Golden chance in the Champion Chase. The conditions/going would’ve played to his strengths on the Wednesday rather than the softer going on the Tuesday. A different day, a different horse would’ve turned up.

Defi Du Seuil looks a highly promising youngster and adds an extra shiny facet to the next Champion Hurdle.

Despite his quirks, Might Bite remains of huge interest should he take the Gold Cup route.

The fact that Special Tiara and Un De Sceaux conquered in their respective races underlines what a divine chaser Sprinter Sacre was.

Oh and Willie Mullins is a devil!

That can only be speculation Rob. Despite all the gushing about Cue Card, the King George runner up had a modest season that suggested he’s a good bit below his peak. He barely held off the “gone at the game” Silviniaco Conti in that King George and the other two in the race Josses Hill and Tea For Two are miles from Gold Cup standard. Tea For Two was only in the Gold Cup to give Lizzie Kelly a ride in the race.

Overall I think it was a poor renewal of the King George. I would lay Thistlecrack at 3/1 with the race so far away.

I find it hard to believe that Sizing John can be rated below Thistlecrack after that Gold Cup. The horse has landed the Irish Gold Cup as well. Thistlecrack is 9yo and Sizing John is only 7yo. Thistlecrack has not proven he stays the Gold Cup trip yet but Sizing John is unbeaten at 3m or more. Since Sizing John joined Jessica Harrington, the only horse to beat him was Douvan and that was over 2m 1f, Sizing John is getting on for 2 stones higher rated than he was when facing the mighty Douvan and his form as a chaser is simply in a different league to Thistlecrack’s.

I would say it’s Fantasy Island and verging on unsporting to suggest Thistlecrack would have “decimated” the field. Minella Rocco is a former Cheltenham winner, Native River is a Hennessy and Welsh National double winner, Djakadam is a two time Gold Cup runner up, both horses he ran behind were declared excellent winners of the race.

As Mick Fitzgerald would say “The farm looks Rack Salad” ;-)

I’m not sure the proximity of Minnella Rocco makes the farm look that rack salad, though I agree with the rest of it!

A festival that won’t live long in the memory. Lots of stars missing and those that did turn up or turned up with star potential pretty much all disappointed (including Altior but Defi De Seuil aside).

It felt like watching Arsenal. Entertaining and enjoyable for people who don’t understand the sport, but for a purist, a lack of top quality.

Thanks. I think it was clear to everyone that Yanworth was more stamina than speed and I don’t think for one minute that King wanted to go down in trip. I do wonder if Barry influenced this too but he picked Yanworth over BVD for the CH. Can’t get things right every time.

Can’t help but think the most disappointed person right now is Alan King. For me, Yanworth would have won that and will be backing him to do so next year very soon.

Except master blueeyes only beat Charli Parcs by default….

Who knows what would of happened had he stood up… I know what the market thinks

Yeah I do happen to agree. I believe CP would have won – also I see I posted this on the wrong page, apologies!

    Divin Bere beats Master Blueyes.
    Charli Parcs beats Master Blueyes.
    Master Blueyes beats Flying Tiger.
    Master Blueyes beats Charli Parcs.
    Flying Tiger beats Divin Bere.

Based on this, I’d look for a rag that has been beaten by all of them and Defi….

I’ve been on the Charli Parcs bandwagon for a long time. How bullish Henderson is and the significant money must mean he is a good animal. But the way the festival has gone for me, nothing would surprise me as the outcome of this race.

I can’t desert Might Bite, Ginger, biggest danger Alpha Des Obeaux if clicks and peaks as in last year’s Stayers (Mouse is in form). If both blow out – Whisper. Would be concerned re stableform of Longsdon & Daly (+ how can Briery Belle turn round the form with Whisper last time!)

Whilst I agree, I also thought the same about Apples Jade and Limini……

Label Des Obeaux E/W in the next for me. Think he is an improving horse and wasn’t right when Singlefarmpayment beat him.

No surprise but good to get it confirmed with all the rumours going around.
