One of my more detestable bets, but after seeing some of the ante-post value punters got on Melon this year I wanted in on the party.
Currently waiting on a price from PP for Choungaya to win the Triumph 2018. He was bought by Harold Kirk for Mullins last July for 165,000 euros at the Goffs Land Rover Sale (a record for this particular sale).
He’s a 3 year old by Walk In The Park who needs no introduction ,and his second dam is the winner of 13 races in France. I’ll be happy to have a nibble if he’s anything between 75 and 50/1. Also requested a price for him to win the Supreme 2019 which sounds ridiculous but I’ll happy to throw something small on and forget about it.
Something interesting to keep an eye on for the upcoming season at the very least.
March 23, 2017 at 08:30 #1293850If Yanworth takes to jumping, I think hew would be of interest in either the JLT or the RSA. I genuinely think he will be a 3 miler.
March 23, 2017 at 11:07 #1293863Couldn’t agree more, after being outpaced down the hill in both the Neptune and the Champion he stayed on well up the run in. Hopefully he will be another exciting addition to the staying chasing division.
March 23, 2017 at 11:13 #1293866Good Luck Daz,
14/1 Yorkhill for the Gold Cup.
That is the same price I’m holding Nathan, and that will do for me for the next few months.

GOLD CUP- DOUVAN 12/1
March 24, 2017 at 21:30 #1293994I’m not sure of how many of you caught it today but one of my horses to follow this season Reigning Supreme won in the 1st race at Newbury. I put him and Captain Forez up as novice chasers to follow next year.
He won nicely enough today from 2 decent yardsticks, with what looked to me a fair amount left despite the relatively narrow margin of victory. Hopefully he’s put away for the rest of the season although good ground at Ayr over 2m4f+ would appeal.
I managed to get a quote of 25/1 for both JLT and RSA about 3 months ago but thought that was too skinny so left him alone.
Any thoughts on him as horse or targets for next year would be greatly appreciated??
March 25, 2017 at 13:07 #1294083Good luck with him Ponti, but as you rightly say, those odds offered would be very skinny at the moment, and I think you made the right decision in leaving him for now. Plenty of opportunities over the next few months surely to get bigger odds, and he doesn’t look without potential either.
March 26, 2017 at 17:31 #1294228Yorkhill Gold Cup. All over it.
March 27, 2017 at 12:18 #1294289Yorkhill will need to settle far better than has so far managed at much shorter trips if he’s to even run in the Gold Cup; let alone win it. 8/1 is awful value imo; making several around him good value.
Value Is EverythingMarch 27, 2017 at 14:10 #1294301I am not a fan of Yorkhill.
The horse has the happy knack of turning up as warm favourite whenever he runs.
I can’t agree with the Irish Handicapper who has only 4 lbs between Yorkhill and Sizing John. Those 164 and 168 respective ratings look odd to me in the context of a weak JLT winner and an Irish/Cheltenham Gold Cup double winner.
As Ginger says, the trip is another ask for Yorkhill.
I just feel that this year’s JLT might not turn out to be great and Yorkhill looks poor value at his current odds.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 27, 2017 at 22:33 #1294338Yorkhill has plenty of potential for improvement. The pedigree side of things would be on side and Mullins got UDS to settle in time a horse who was a helluva lot more free spirited and head strong and runaway than what Yorkhill is.
This time last year nobody was considering Sizing John for a Gold Cup and even after his win in Ireland more than most still didn’t think he would stay.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 28, 2017 at 00:34 #1294359I wouldn’t dare get involved on any Mullins horse for the festival at this stage but I can’t help thinking that 8/1 for Nichols Canyon to repeat in the Stayers looks tempting. Completely unexposed at the trip, only 7 and I struggle to see what will beat him. The big question is Faugheen, he will be 10 if he turns up next year and Coral’s rate his chances at a standout 10/1.
March 28, 2017 at 08:33 #1294376Wouldnt normally back this early but ill take some of the 10/1… even if he stays in training until december he will be 1/4 of that
March 28, 2017 at 12:46 #1294389I hope you are right Nathan.
I am happy to be on him at the bigger price, but I understand the stance of Gingertipster, in that it’s very hard to justify too much enthusiasm for the odds of 8-1, with several questions hanging over him. Now I think about it, 14-1 is probably on the cusp of antepost value itself with the race being a year off, but I will gloss over that as I don’t be very much horses as far off as this and I am just happy to be in front of the market JUST NOW.
He has been one of the most discussed horses this season, and I always seem to be discussing him myself, but he is a horse I am a massive fan of. He will inevitably be the focus of much speculation next season, but for now I really do see him as having the gold Cup as his primary target
April 2, 2017 at 19:33 #1295080Does anybody know whether Ballyandy is going to be sent chasing next season or kept over hurdles?
April 5, 2017 at 00:36 #1295304I have a hunch he will Krypton, considering connections, but not heard anything concrete.
