I’m afraid he is right unfortunately. 3yos rushed off to stud is far more the norm than it used to be which is a pity when you think back to some of the great king George’s and eclipses where the generations battled. I know it’s business for the likes of Australia but as it looks like he is still maturing and he could have been a monster racehorse at 4. Just a pity for the racing public IMHO.

Funny how no one has mentioned the role aiden obrien had with the win. Not only a great training performance but the very long and animated conversation they had in the paddock showed that ballydoyle were expecting a big run and had the tactics ready. Aiden also said that Joseph was central to the discussions regarding how to ride the race.was a super ride by Moore. All those who moan about Joseph obrien should realise what a hard gig riding for ballydoyle is and why Ryan Moore has got the ideal set up in getting great horses to ride without all the effort and stress the team at ballydoyle go though. Bet he would love to ride Australia.
They need to get more guests on like sir mark Prescott. I could listen to his stories all day, the way he speaks about Newmarket it must be fabulous to work in that environment.. Another thing they could do is have regular pieces on the great horses and the horses the public have taken to their hearts. For me horses like soba, moorestyle,Stravinsky and still my favourite alleged. I can’t believe they dont at least look for what would attract the audience but I think in these days of so many types of media tv is now being marginalised anyway.
August 25, 2014 at 17:35 in reply to: King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes 2014 #489209Both horses next races will tell us if taghrooda had a bad day at the office or if tapestry is a rapidly improving filly. Horses are not machines and have off days like all of us.
Gleneagles looks like he could be competitive in the guineas but more likely to be a 10 to 12f horse. The dew hurst and the racing post trophy could be great races with the number of good quality juveniles seen out. John f Kennedy apparently is training superbly and ballydoyle are trying to keep a lid on expectations. Await a huge plunge on him before and after racing post trophy.
We will probably end up with just racing on Saturdays on terrestrial with the midweek being on atr and at the races. For the racing nuts it will be either get atr or racing uk or both. Since dropping Big Mac, thommo etc it’s neither entertaining or a racing programme. Do one or the other as the current set up is dying a very slow and lingering death.
Channel 4 racing isn’t fit for purpose and there needs to be a clear out and people in who know the industry and can sell it on v.
August 22, 2014 at 16:17 in reply to: King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes 2014 #488916Breeders cup fillies and mares looks tailor made for her and hopefully she’s stays in training. Only ran 7 times and if her form at York is to be taken at face value then she is very exciting to look forward to.
August 22, 2014 at 07:18 in reply to: King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes 2014 #488862In hindsight winning the oaks,King George and Yorkshire oaks is a big ask hence the reason very few have been able to do it far less attempt it. Taghrooda could well bounce back from it but tapestry must now come into calculation for the 12f group ones. Ballydoyle weren’t sure if she stayed but her Irish oaks run surely showed she did. Amazing she won as she did given her frame but the form is rock solid to me and the best horse won. I do agree that she’s needs to follow this up with say the Vermailles to be a contender for the arc although the breeders cup is being mooted for her.
The arc is et up for an improving French filly to win the race. Too many doubts on other contenders. Treve has been forgotten about but could go close if her trainer can do a tapestry with her.
I was a huge fan of tthe horses run by the wraggs and saw teenoso win the derby. Backed both the first and second and would have won a mint if carling ford castle(33-1) had won. For so called experts not to know pentires history or danedreams is poor to say the least. I’m a racing nut and wouldn’t get basics like that wrong. If your not sure of something don’t say anything. Matt chapman and the likes of Jason weaver would be much better heading channel 4 racing. I’d keep graham Cunningham but the rest I’m afraid are poor. They got rid of the wrong people and viewers have decided that by not watching.
The reason i think that it could be the bc mile is just reading between the lines from aob and coolmore. They are looking to promote their stallions with more speed while of course hoovering up all the big 12f races.Doubt he will go for the classic as that is seriously uncharted territory. Coolmore know the score on the bc classic as d of war ran such a great race last year but he was bred to run on dirt.Should he win the next two(irish and british champion stakes) it will be interesting to see where they will go or if he will be retired. He looks such a progressive horse i think he could be even better at four but he wont be racing by then of course.
Australia will is the most exciting stallion prospect for many a year and unlike kingman, taghrooda and even franked has shown he is top class at 8 to 12f. Watch the guineas again to see Australia would probably have won in a few more strides and as he was virtually racing on his own for the last three furlongs was very unlucky. Had he won the guineas he would have got more recognition than he has got. Hopefully the next 2/3 races will see him show how good he is. Have a hunch he will finish off in the breeders cup mile and then onto his life of luxury. You can never tell how horses will fare at stud but with his bloodline there is a good chance of him being a big success. Just enjoy him while he is racing.
Little or no chance of Australia staying in training. Coolmore is a business and should Australia win his next 2/3 races he will be off to stud for a fee around £80-100,000. For all the success of the incredible Galileo coolmore haven’t a top class son of Galileo. at stud.with his form between 8to12f he looks to be the stallion coolmore were looking for.

2. Grand duke of Tuscany.
3 Snow sky.Always be wary of fast improving French fillies in the arc. It’s amazing how many have won the arc having been unheralded a few months before the race. Btw any news on treve.
