I wonder what percentage of the fields in the top races at York will be by coolmore stallions. 7 of the 14 in the voltigeur and 7 of the11 in the juddmonte are by cool more sires. That’s 14 out of 25 in two races. Amazing the influence they have yet they don’t have a top class son of Galileo on the roster. No pressure on Australia next week although young Joseph was suggesting he might need the run in the juddmonte. Pull the other one young man.

as I don’t have racing uk then channel 4 is the only place I can see races that atr don’t cover so still need it but it is so amateurish and if only they could actually put on racing people the public could relate to.They shouldn’t have changed the people on before and the likes of Alistair down etc are sadly missed.

I agree that it could come to a point where c4 decide to cut and run. It makes financial sense unfortunately.btw is there still a station in Australia where you can see all the days races for free. Just curious.

Very exciting colt. To use the well used phrase he could be anything. Joseph was very easy on him and I suspect there is loads to come.with dick Whittington winning the Phoenix I’m sure aob has a good idea of the pecking order at ballydoyle and JFK will head to Doncaster and the racing post trophy.

Flat racing does seem to be gripped by owners who have their eyes on the next great stallion whereas jumps owners are in it more for sheer enjoyment. Interesting that coolmore are selling a few horses to jpmcmanus for jumping. Should Australia and taghrooda be rushed off to stud it would be a big loss to the industry. Presumably kingman will be too so we will start next season with very few stars to look forward too unless the likes of highland reel an diva wood turn out to be superstars. Great pity.

For the non racing buff I would sad shergar, camelot(because of the name) and possibly Australia as the younger generation barely remember what happened last week never mind months ago.

What’s the odds of Romeo Lima going to ballydoyle like declaration of war with the tie in of Joseph Allen and coolmore. Looks a good prospect.

The miss united story is just a delight. The entertainment the horse has given us and of course the trainer. Who understands half what he says and it’s hilarious when the likes of lord snooty luck interviews him, just wish they had won the ascot gold cup. And what a warrior the horse was. Gave every ounce of effort. If ever a horse deserves retirement then it’s miss united.

Highland reel wasn’t a leading horse at ballydoyle till his runaway maiden win at Gowan. Horses like the great Galileo wasn’t out till October and high chaparral in September. It doesn’t mean we haven’t seen either the guineas or derby winner out yet. Both the good wood winners look potentially top class but of course time will tell. Anybody taking 6s for the guineas obviously has money to burn. Highland reels 12to 16s seem more on the mark.

Jockeys very rarely make good tipsters. As Big Mac says believe what you see and somewhats third in the eclipse wasn’t a reflection of its merits due to poor jockey ship and should have been watched rather than followed at good wood. No wonder the bookies make money as why else would somewhat gone off as favourite. Bizzare.

Remember aob brought back magician from a disappointing run in the st james palace to win the breeders cup. Wouldn’t rule it happening again.

The handicapper won’t recognise poor jockey ship in his ratings when it’s plain to see that only the first and second ran to form and Kingston hill would have gone close if shadowing either of the front two. To me Kingston hill over 12f seems to be the thing to take out of the race.

Btw does anybody know what the handicapper made of the runs of trading leather and magician in the king George. Surely both too bad to be true or maybe their previous hard races left a mark.

As I said on The King George thread, both horses have been a bit disappointing this season.

I don’t think it was a great Irish Derby Trading Leather won and he’s not quite top class for my money. Magician has won at 12f but on super fast going at Santa Anita. One of the channel 4 team mentioned that it probably equated to 10f on normal UK track and going. One of the ratings experts said that it looks increasingly likely that Magician needs lightning fast ground. Taghrooda and Eagle Top came out of the race with raised ratings and Telescope was judged to have run to within a pound of his best. Mukhadram ran another excellent race and both the horses you mention were notably weak in the market for the King George and their best form is from last season.

I think your right about magician and he could well only race in USA in future. Could follow the cape blanco route by cleaning up 10 and 12f races and then go to stud for a very large fee. Darwin’s run in the Sussex suggests he needs rock hard ground too. I just wish courses would let nature decide the going as we are missing so many fast ground specialists been seen at their best. Trading leather hasn’t been as good this year and his juddmonte run last year was his best ever and he’s not run anywhere near that since.

Mcririck is still the most well known hack around and not having him on channel 4 is a nonsense. It was hilarious Gina chasing job to get an interview but in fairness to Joseph there were no chance she was going to get an interview as highland reel was still bouncing and full of life. The amount of energy that horse used outside the race suggests that once he matures he could be some racehorse. Noticed aob blanked Gina as well but that was more to do with the customary after race call to him mum presumably. Time to let things settle after the race before doing interviews indeed.

It’s always difficult dissecting form in such a falsely run race. Kingman is currently the best miler around but I don’t think he will get any better. Toro nado I think will come on for the race and come qe2 day will be a much tougher opponent. Darwin on the face of it ran the race of his life but would need to run to that standard again before I’m convinced he is up to group 1 or 2 class. The breeders cup mile on very fast ground should be ideal but not convinced he stays beyond seven furlongs. He could be a late developer but let’s see. Outstrip ran well and could be up to group standard.

Hugely promising run by highland reel. As graham Cunningham said so alike st Nicholas abbey. Needs a lot further than seven furlongs but could follow Australia’s guineas followed by derby route. Remember a lot of the 2yos at ballydoyle will be much better towards the back end of the season as I’m sure a few were setback by the cough. I wouldn’t be surprised if aiden as two or three more as good if not better than this horse. Still a very good marker by a horse running short of his best. The runner up in his maiden win(12 lengths back) scooted up next time so the result wasn’t a shock.

Just wonder why magician and trading leather didn’t run up to form. No doubt trading leather will run his usual gutsy race in the juddmonte and magician will be readied for the breeders cup where he may well face telescope.
