Kauto star obviously has stamina, so to beat him in a small field they may go slowly and sprint the last 3 furlongs. however with central house in the race i dont think there will be any hanging around. but if there wasnt any pace, i bet hoo la baloo would make it a true test.

are the final decs for the tingle creek today?<br>looks like there will only be a handfull of runners, and it wouldnt suprise me if hoo la baloo runs as a pace maker for kauto star.

look, kauto star is running on saturday, that does not mean they are trying to make a 2 miler out of him. his trainer has seen an oppertunity and is taking it. he probably is good enough over 2 miles to win on soft ground over 2 miles, but 3 miles looks like it will be his niche.

yeah at cheltenham. which beef hates. didnt kauto star stuff the entire field at ascot giving heaps of weight all round? cant remember best mate ever beating anything he gave much weight too!

he is rated higher than best mate because the horses best mate beat were average and he never beat them very easily. (seabald, sir rembrandt, le coudray, truckers tavern) he got stuffed when he met real class. (Jair du cochet, wahiba ands, florida pearl, beef or salmon) i except a horse can only beat what is in the race, but they can only have a rating on what they acheive in any particular race. and best mate never achieved a performance as good as ks did at haydock. best mate was the most hyped horse in recent times, but 10 out of 10 for consistencty.

just been looking at the triumph hurdle form. 6 of the first 7 home in last years triumph have won races this season. it seems to me that last seasons triumph was the strongest for years. this must be a positive for detroit city

i agree with dj that kauto is better than best mate and azertyuiop. he may be better than MF in terms of versatility.

i didnt say azertyuiop was better than kauto. i agree that a horse doesnt need to win at cheltenham to be a great. beef or salmon has beaten the gold cup winners of the last 5 years, but hates cheltenham.

How good a horse is depends on what they beat. Best mate won 3 poor gold cups, he was good but not great, azertyuiop won the CC arguably only because Moscow fell. Moscow flyer was a true great, best mate and azertyuiop were good. Kauto star still has it to prove, but he has the potential to be great, and if he wins the tingle creek he will be a very very small price for the king george!

its not like he is running him everyweek. it will be his 4th run in a year! one of those he fell early on, and the other 2 he won easing down. there is still over 3 weeks after the race even if he has a hard race on saturday. this approach is much better than wrapping horses in cotten wool, like best mate. let the public see the good horses. Moscow flyer, rooster booster, etc were campaigned honestly

5 year olds dont get any allowances in the tingle creek, atleast they didnt last year. im not a foreman fan to be honest. he isnt going to be getting any better rising 9 and often needs his first run of the season. i agree kauto star shouldnt be 1/2 but if central house runs there wont be any hanging around, and in the mud stamina will come into play.

paul nicholls said that he is more likely to run the softer the ground is on saturday clivex. i suppose this is because it will be more of a stamina test, and a slower gallop. personally i think he should run. anything could happen between now and the king george, and i doubt his owner is overly interested in the million bonus

ok, thanks. i think im going to be dissapointed with the entries next monday then! No brave inca, harchibald, Macs joy, Iktitaf, Asian maze or feathard lady. English side looks weak too with straw bear going to kempton. i bet the Detroit city camp are happy! although it wouldnt supprise me if Black jack ketchum was dropped in distance for the race.
