A great race today, was chuffed to see fair along run such a good race. Always looks a bit small for jumping big fences but tried his heart out today after sulking a bit and getting behind!

Fair along ran a good trial yesterday, stayed on strongly and was infront after the post, the first 2 were out on there feet and he look as fresh as paint unsaddling. Bit small for the national but really tries over fences and is quite clever when he gets one wrong

With no Riverside Theatre i think this is a great oppertunity for Fair Along as i wouldnt trust WAF. Love to see him win as well!

WAF seems a bit of a monkey to me, sticks his head up and i wouldnt back him myself. I would think RT will win this fairly comfortably. I will also probably have fair along e/w to run second as well, hasnt run over fences for 3 years is a plus to me because he seems to get bored and the switch back to fences could be what he needs

Why are you suprised about fair alongs entry, stays, never fallen or unseated (i think), has a touch of class and totally unexposed as a staying chaser. I expect he will have one run over fences after the weights are out, and if he wins he will be running

All fair points, although as he’s not run in a chase for nigh on three years, I kinda thought that a National entry was slightly unusual.

    Just noticed, no Mon Mome.

i know, but his trainer said he will be going back over fences at some point this season early on. as he disapointed over hurdles at the weekend i guess he will be chasing sooner than later again

I personally hope Kauto wins a 5th one, purely from sentiment. But i am concerned over the choice of mccoy riding him. Obviously the top jockey of this generation but a totally different style to ruby and i cant see it suiting Kauto. BUT – id love him to win!

Will this race be reopened? If so i can see Menorah being entered now there is a much bigger gap since his last run and this race being used as his cheltenham prep. likely to be a strong pace in the race as well

I might be alone but i am converned about Mccoy riding Kauto. Im not a fan of Mccoy to be honest but can appriciate his record and brilliance on certain horses, but Kauto is not one of them and this clash could end in an U or F unfortunatly

My favourite hurdle race of all time was the tote gold trophy when geos beat rooster booster a head. Had everything for me a good hurdle race should have, big field, fast pace, big weight carrying performance and a desperate finish!

You dont need to boot a horse into every fence when setting a blistering gallop, watch some horsemen on front runners, RW, BG, NF, TM.
I might miss winners not backing him but using my system he was one of my biggest loosing joks falling or unseating on too many of my selections. Altho i except some follow him almost blindly.
Glad the horse got up and he actually made it easier for me to collect!

exactly why i NEVER back a horse ridden by Mccoy! Always hassling a horse into a fence. No wonder he wont get the Kauto ride in the king george and has been jocked off Denman

Could be a muddling race, but i expect imperial commander to win, if he doesnt planet of sound would be the most likely to cause an ‘upset’.

They should have run Kauto in this race 2 or 3 years ago if thats what they wanted to do. No doubt it would be a mouth watering early season clash and bring alot of attention to NH racing but Kauto owes nothing to anyone, and rising 11 there is no chance he is improving and to win a handicap off 190 giving denman 8lb, he needs to be at the top of his game.
To me there would be 2 reasons for running Kauto in this, to improve Denmans chance of winning a 3rd Hennessey, or, Denman has regressed considerably at home and Kauto would keep everything else out of the handicap for Neptune collonge to be the only other horse in the handicap. Always come across to me that John Hales has taken a back seat in the Nicolls camp, maybe this is his day in the sun!!!

I always find it bizarre how people always say ‘not as good as Arkle etc’ pretty much everything has improved with regard to performance since the 60’s and 50 years worth of breeding on it goes without saying the TB as a breed has improved. Cars in the 60’s seemed pretty damn fast but no where near as good as those today! get my point? I know these 60’s horses had lofty ratings but thats all relative. Racing was no where near as competitive as it is now and no one can argue with that. Obviously Arkle was exceptional and miles better than what was around then, but not now
