Priced up now, anyone know if any of the leading fancies are actually aimed at such a race? The likes of Wishful Thinking, Weird Al, Mon Parrain, Chicago Grey etc?
October 30, 2011 at 11:47 #374912Wishful Thinking goes PP then they will decide whether he goes to Kempton or not,
Weird Al will end up 4 or 5/1 for this I reckon most of the top ones wont run. Race isn’t what it used to be.
What I didn’t know until now is Weird Al was a total wreck after he deadheated in his first race last year and could hardly stand.
He was never the same for the remainder of the season and I for one thought he may just be a flash in the pan.
He’s certainly not that and if his participation is confirmed I can see him being backed off the boards.
10/1 looks well worth the gamble.
November 9, 2011 at 18:01 #376946WYMOTT for me at 14/1
November 10, 2011 at 02:24 #377021Diamond Harry, Time For Rupert and Weird Al look more likely to take on Long Run in the Betfair Chase. All three of those would (imo) have a better chance than current favourite 1833 if turning up at Newbury.
Value Is EverythingNovember 10, 2011 at 02:27 #377022Was anything found to be physically wrong with Wymott at Cheltenham?
Value Is EverythingNovember 10, 2011 at 08:03 #377027Ginger, Reference from Mark Howard’s book "One Jump Ahead", He suffered a small hairline fracture in the race.
November 10, 2011 at 13:12 #377093Thanks
Wymott looked none too keen in the RSA having seemed of good temperament before. Minor injury explains a lot.
If Wymott wins the Hennessey and I win the totetentofollow because of it, will give you a pressie Merigo.
Value Is EverythingNovember 10, 2011 at 22:44 #377208I would like to see Time For Rupert go for this. 11st2 is OK , and I think he would have a great chance at Newbury of winning. Dont think he is quite good enough to beat Long Run at Haydock so why not go for this. It looks an easier race than the Betfred is shaping up to be.
November 11, 2011 at 02:22 #377221Has Aiteenthirtythree not been laid out for this?
Nice prep running against Somersby, should have his fitness spot on.
RSA Chase runners usually have decent record in the race, which could include Wayward Prince and Time For Rupert.
Last years RSA Chase runners came 1-2.
November 11, 2011 at 09:37 #377245The way Ditchat was speaking about him last year he’s a future Gold Cup winner. With 10st 9lbs he’d be a certainty if that is what he destined to be.
That’s hard to imagine but horses like Playschool, Teeton Mill and One Man got in with weights that they made to look silly later in life.
Have to agree Time For Rupert looks exceptionally well treated with 11st2lbs and I suppose Paul Webber might change his mind but it looks doubtful. He could win this and still be no further forward on how well he would fair against Long Run and co and he’d be as well finding out now, while he’s fit and well, than waiting until March.
With Weird Al, Diamond Harry, Mon Parrain and a few others looking unlikely to run Aiteenthirtythree could be big at 8/1 but I’m leaning towards Joncol if he turns up.
He hasn’t been the most resolute in a finish in the past but he might just be a bit more of man now he’s nearly a 9yo.
Still a bit early to be backing anything as the race does tend to cut up badly.
November 11, 2011 at 21:05 #377365Can’t see Joncol turning up personally, although was nice reappearance against Cooldine, which isn’t much, however is a start.
Shortlist of Aiteenthirtythree, Wayward Prince and Time For Rupert, great prices to take them all already – 8s, 12s, 14s.
The latter may go Haydock though, so have already got on Aiteenthirtythree, and will decide on other two depending who runs where.

November 16, 2011 at 18:20 #378161I like Hey Big Spender in this. Had a nice run round at Cheltenham on Saturday when 4th to Galaxy Rock off top weight . That looked like a prep as he was never put in the race. Most of his best performances have come when he has raced closer to the pace. Has beaten good horses like Big Fella thanks (level weights) and Fistral Beach (giving him 10 lbs) and on that form he is reasonably handicapped. He is rated 5lb lower than when he ran in the Hennessey last year when he went off too fast and faded. Still only 8 and has had only 14 chase runs so there is still scope for improvement. Will stay the distance and provided there is some cut I think he has a better chance than his odds of 40/1 suggest. May lack the pace to win but a definite each way bet at that price for me.
Edit:Just read in today’s Weekender that Colin Tizzard intends sending HBS direct to the Welsh National. Anyone who bets him for the Hennessey would therefore be misguided – like me!

Would be a good result for me boz. Have Wymott to win and Sarando ew. Took a cut at Tullamore Dew (win only) this evening though. He looks a stayer to me. Out paced in all his recent races and staying on like a half decent horse. He obviously isn’t a very likely winner but despite his age he is a second season novice and unexposed at the trip. He’s a pound higher than his mark in the Centenary and it’s clear how good that form is looking now with Divers and Quantitativeeasing going so well in the Paddy Power. He may not have the scope of those two (although he just as well might), he’s my dark horse (a.k.a. money burner!).
I don’t know why but 1833 doesn’t appeal to me. He could well win and has a decent chance after the Somersby race but not for me. Beshabar has run best over 4m+ and thats something that might suit Tullamore Dew eventually. Similar horses in their age and experience over fences.
EDIT:
Just watched RPTV….Fools rarely differ
