Any horse that stays 3.2m over hurdles around Cheltenham (Great Endeavour) will stay the Hennessy standing on its head.
Wayward Prince got outpaced, not only in his last 2 races, but also his previous run at Cheltenham when a fortuitous winner, and though he got up in the shadow of the post in his Aintree hurdle race run at a searing pace, he was too knackered to make it into the winners enclosure.
Likewise Aiteen Thirtythree, who also only got up in the shadow of the post over 3.2m of the Cheltenham hurdle course, and was left for dead in a good ground Sun Alliance.
You praying for rain yet?
ps. I could have finished 2nd to Somersby – the horse did just what it had to, to win it.
The funny thing is Reet since I posted I’ve heard several pundits say the same thing. "The biggest worry with Great Endeavour is will he stay" If it wasn’t a worry he’d be much shorter than the current 7/1 having won the Paddy Power.
The way they finished strung out in the Pertemps Qualifier would suggest the ground is riding pretty slow and the way Bob’s Worth ground down cue card would suggest staying will be the name of the game tomorrow.
That said Cue Card is as soft as they come and today was possibly just a repeat of his farcical effort against Menorah last season or Joe Tizzard’s blood taking a detour past his brain.
I’ve just got the feeling the 1833 is a class apart from this lot and if he is at these weights hopefully he’ll hack up.
November 25, 2011 at 18:41 #379593Great Rndeavour won’t win – the trip is NOT in his favour – the reason he won last time is because he enjoyed the 2m 4f so much.
The Giant Bolster for me
.
Well-handicapped, should stay….but just needs to jump!
You can still get 22/1.

November 25, 2011 at 20:11 #379614On stats and trends one horse stands out like a beacon –
GREAT ENDEAVOUR at 7/1 is an absolutely cracking bet.

Pundits are, generally, failed punters.
Looking at the time of Cue Card’s race, the ground on the chase course is no worse than good, and liable to be a little quicker tomorrow. That will go against both Aiteen Thirtythree and Wayward Prince, imo.
Great Endeavour has a perfectly respectable entry in a valuable 2m 5f race at Cheltenham in a fortnight’s time, that they choose to run him here instead (albeit off 6lb lower) suggest connections don’t have too many qualms about him staying tomorrow’s trip.November 25, 2011 at 23:12 #379642I’ve been keeping tabs on Aiteen Thirtythree since Paul Nicholls said he was a progressive horse whom he rated highly.
He’s nicely weighted and I expect a big run tomorrow.

November 25, 2011 at 23:42 #379646really like great endeavor for this think he will stay david pipe was saying last season that he could be a gold cup horse while i dont think hes good enough to win a gold cup i do think he could win this also i will have a few pence each way on blazing bailey has a touch of class and is a big price
November 26, 2011 at 01:18 #379654Carruthers and Michel Le Bon for me. Classy and low weights.
November 26, 2011 at 02:21 #379658I narrowed it down to Aiteen Thirtythree, Carruthers, Great Endeavour, Planet Of Sound and Tullamore Dew. Spent hours trying to eliminate a few of them any eventually settled for:
Carruthers e/w
Planet Of Sound e/w
Watch the other three fill the places now!

Better ground will suit him perfectly. What he needs most of all is a strong pace.

Great Endeavour
Tullamore Dew
BeshabarNovember 26, 2011 at 09:09 #379686Don’t fancy 1833 one iota.
Great Endeavour has to have a leading chance but my fancy is for an each way bet on The Giant Bolster. If he jumps around I think he’ll make the frame.

HENNESSEY GOLD GUP NEWBURY PreviewMy 100% Book:
Great Endeavour 5/1, Wayward Prince 7/1,
Wymott 17/2,
Aiteen Thirtythree 9/1
, Michel Le Bon 12/1, Sarando 14/1, Beshabar 16/1, Planet Of Sound 22/1, Carruthers 22/1, Joncol 25/1, Tullamore Dew 25/1, The Giant Bolster 33/1, Muirhead 40/1, Blazing Bailey 50/1, Billie Magern 66/1, Neptunes Collonges 80/1, Qhilimar 80/1, Fair Along 100/1, Balthazar King 100/1.
Some people can predict who the favourite and second fav are going to be (Great Endeavour and Wayward Prince. And predict a poorly priced favourite (Aiteen Thirtythree).

Now all that has to be done is get the winner.

Don’t doubt that for a second, Tuffers.
His problem – as I see it – is the ground won’t slow down the others enough, and a strong pace might see one or two getting away from him.November 26, 2011 at 11:04 #379720Obviously the lack of Denman means the quality of the race isn’t up to that of recent years.
Planet of Sound looks a lively prospect if you can forgive him a lengthy absence and that he is as good as ever. His record at Newbury is impeccable and he looks very reasonably treated. The chief doubt I would have is the time of year, though the current mild spell would be to his advantage.
November 26, 2011 at 11:27 #379723I’ve been really torn between Great Endeavor, Murihead, Planet of Sound and Carruthers.
In the end i had to go with Great Endeavor and Muirhead, but i only hope i’m not kicking myself for neglecting the other two
