Neither a touch above Evs MM and a touch above 2/1 Albertas Run makes much appeal to me but if forced at those odds I’d rather back MM than AR
Might be worth the forecast though, Drone – at around 3/1, for what’s nearly a laydown on the ratings.

This could be a clever move by Jonjo bypassing the Betfair Chase for this as the race has cut up no end.
However despite last year indicating that Master Minded is unreliable he wouldn’t have to be at his best to beat Alberta’s Run.
Few of Jonjo’s have been slow to come to themselves this season as we saw with GMOOH.
He never pushws his better horses and unless Alberta’s has come good himself don’t be surprised if he runs below par.
If there both right I’d be firmly in Master Minded’s camp but there’s no real way of telling until they are out there.
Could go either way…Put’s down your money and takes your chances on this one
November 20, 2010 at 11:51 #328807I’d rather be with I’msingtheblues at the prices. Take out Newbury last season and Master Minded’s last performance of not was winning the Champion in 09, I rather be a layer of him.
November 20, 2010 at 11:57 #328808Think it looks bang on the money this market no advantage backing or laying either. What’s for sure there will be better opportunities to support or oppose either runner further down the road. Not sure which way it will go on this occasion, there is a lovely fence at the bottom of my garden, think I’ll watch it from there
November 20, 2010 at 12:21 #328820The former QM Champ is now out to Evs, but steady, having been that price for most of the morning. VC seem to think Albertas Run is worth taking on – they are going a standout 85/40 – cracking race in prospect, can’t wait
November 20, 2010 at 12:28 #328824I am on Master Minded at 6’s for the Champion.
Agree with Drone.
His higher head carriage last season is an indicator for a wind problem. If his op has done the trick, like it has for so many Nichollls horses. Evens will look good. Think he’ll stay if right in himself. Though in a way hope not, as might end up in the Ryanair!
The negative for me is the trainer seems unusually to be talking down his chance. It could be MM is not going as well as he has at home. If he had I think he’d have run last weekend over 2 miles. Could be he’s just limiting expectations – even if he wins by 4 lengths it’ll be "still not at his best". Taking a short price about one who’s not shown his best for over a season is questionable. Though this race looks uncompetitive.Alberta’s Run ran poorly on reappearance, worse than you’d expect with one "needing the run". Though he is an inconsistent sort, needs to come on an awful lot on the face of it. In my opinion he’s best racing prominently and wide, away from the others.
Imsingingtheblues isn’t out of it, but there must be more stamina doubts about him as Master Minded, will also have different tactics (held up) than he’s used to.
Just wish there was something else with a squeek to back. The others are not good enough on all known form.
Think it is going to be a matter of who runs closest to their rating.
No bet. At least not yet.
Value Is EverythingNovember 20, 2010 at 12:28 #328825Have to agree with Fist and tb there,i feel i know
Albertas run
like the back of my hand but if i was told to put a grand on him today i would feel very sick as i know from experience he can run like a pig just as easily as he can battle like a lion! At 5/2 it wouldn"t be the end of the world if he won without my money riding on him as i still have races like the King George and Ryanair as likely targets. Master minded could win this on the bridle if he retains any of his Champion Chase ability but again if he really doesn"t stay,it will become apparent today! Exciting race though!
November 20, 2010 at 12:30 #328826Might be worth the forecast though, Drone – at around 3/1, for what’s nearly a laydown on the ratings.
Maybe RH as the pair do look well clear and wouldn’t put anyone off at 3/1 which looks reasonable enough, but not for me
Here’s a cautionary tale on ‘laydown’ forecasts
The 1981 William Hill Sprint Championship (Nunthorpe) proved to be something of a watershed in my ‘lil brother’s nascent betting career, which had begun in earnest the previous year as a diversion intended to fill the long, long thumb-twiddling pre-university summer of 1980. Encouraged and egged on by me we had a rare old time
So sure was he that Marwell and Moorestyle were nailed-on reverse forecast material that he lumped what amounted to a hefty wedge of the following term’s grant (happy days
) on it. Sharpo proceeded to spoil the party, the boy became a man, and the Drone Brothers Partnership ceased shortly afterwards, though not before an agreement was reached involving the provision of a bridging loan from senior to see junior through Michaelmas termI’msingingtheblues anyone?
November 20, 2010 at 12:56 #328832If Noel Fehily can get Master Minded into a relaxed, steady rhythm and not doing too much early on, his class could make the difference.

November 20, 2010 at 14:04 #328856People who suggest that Master Minded is finished have clearly forgot his impressive Game Spirit effort, just nine months ago.
If he stays the extra distance, he wins.
November 20, 2010 at 14:11 #328857Finished, eh?
This season we’re going to see the real Master Minded – lightning fast and hard to catch.
He’s gonna drop Big Zeb like a bad habit.
November 20, 2010 at 14:12 #328859Always said he hated that noseband.

November 20, 2010 at 14:17 #328862The form was in the book, those that knew he was fit and well would have thought Even money was stealing! I just hope Albertas run gets over that fall, nasty!
November 20, 2010 at 14:19 #328864exactly why i NEVER back a horse ridden by Mccoy! Always hassling a horse into a fence. No wonder he wont get the Kauto ride in the king george and has been jocked off Denman

Impressive always looked like winning but a poor race. Alberta’s clearly wasn’t at his best but no getting away from it Master Minded is a horse to be reckoned with but actually win the QMCC again? Nope!!! not IMO
November 20, 2010 at 15:25 #328883Glad Albertas Run got up from that, awful looking fall.
Impressive victory from Master Minded, but i still think he there to take on this season.

Now I hate the jumps but it has gotta be said that those who keep writing Master Minded off have no clue about racing whatsoever.
Great display today.
