    Taken the 33s Uxizandre.

Still a bit left after being Pricewise’d but potentially shocking renewal. Kingy says back in work and goes to Doncaster next week.

‘Shocking renewal’ it is most definitely not.

Horses not good enough for Champion Chase (Un De Sceaux, Sizing John) or the Gold Cup (Black Hercules, Sub-Lieutenant)

In the horses you name you have an Arkle winner and a JLT winner. No way near as exciting as Altior v Min but I think calling it a shocking renewal is harsh

Yeah, I’d say each to their own as well, all part of the fun, as long as you don’t lose the plot.

Can totally see where you’re coming from Joliff, and it must look like madness to you if it’s not your thing. Once The World Hurdle entries are out, I’ll put my AP bets (so far), and my way of approaching it will be slightly different to others too, though Charlie, your Battleford example is very typical of how I bet Ante-Post during the year.

I love AP betting, and love my “mini books” on the The Champion Hurdle, Ryanair, Stayers, and Gold Cup, but if you lose the run of it (particularly with Cheltenham) it can be very costly. In 2015 I had a lumpy bet on Cause of Causes Ante-Post for The 4 Miler, and a decent lift on the Thursday from Call The Cops & The Package, but when I totted up everything at the end of the week it was a real eye opener. It was by far my worst Cheltenham ever, and most of the damage was done AP. I addressed this last year, and though the volume of bets is similar, the staking is a lot stricter.

I’m being more guarded this year with the handicaps, as I’m finally having to accept that having a horse at 10-1 on the day (with various other concessions) is better than having a 20-1 shot who has indeed taken in one of the other 7 possible engagements they had

Sound advice this. I have to constantly be strict with myself with how much I stake.

If you can invest the time to study throughout the season and don’t mind if some bets go down then it can be profitable, however I can’t afford either the time and don’t like losing money if they don’t end up running so it’s not my cup of tea unfortunately! I wish you all the best with yours.

Exactly Joliff – each to their own I say – different people, different strategies. different systems.

The amount of antepost betting on here is crazy..despite some being on Thistlecrack at decent odds for the GC there are still so many imponderables regarding most other races meaning it’s very risky. I myself only have the one and will likely wait until the actual week before having more bets.

I think the number of people willing to wait until the actual week is crazy (although granted, I spend more in the week than I do AP :good: ). I accept that a lot of my AP bets will be dead come the Festival, but am confident my remaining bets are at a price that will yield a higher return than if I were to back the same horses that week.

A lot of horses run once, twice or maybe three times before the Festival so I prefer to back horses throughout the season at a price with Cheltenham in mind, over backing them at shorter odds. So I didn’t back Finian’s Oscar at 13/8 for the Tolworth, I backed him at 14/1 for the Neptune. Easy to give past examples, so today’s example is Battleford. I think he is crying out for a trip but will I touch 6/5, no. But I have backed him at 30’s for the Albert Bartlet because I think that’s where he will end up.

It’s a risky game but one I have become far more proactive in in recent years because a lot of the prices during the week shorten past any point of value, it is a good fun and if managed well, it’s profitable.

So you’ve already had over 80 ante-post bets on Cheltenham?

    [/quote]

This surprises you? I have over 120 ante-post bets on Cheltenham (and counting).

Very surprised to see Aux Ptits Soins last matched at 19. He must be doing something special on them gallops. Great news for me as he’s my insurance bet for this race.

PN loves him and I thought his performance given the prep in the world hurdle last year was very very impressive. I have APS to win any @ 14’s & 12’s

Mind you I wouldn’t have minded a couple of yards shorter the year Sunnyhillboy got pipped.

    Me too.

I put Sunnyhill Boy up on here at 40/1 with confidence, only to be mugged by a Geezer with Ginger hair..I still hate watching that race.

As do i – that was painful

I must admit I’m amazed at the prices on Apples Jade for the champion hurdle.

The way she stayed on in the home straight when looking completely beat just screamed champion hurdle to me. And that was on a flat track.

Plus, we know she goes well in the spring.

Got on at 25’s ante-post before Xmas. Price still there and bet365 offer NRNB

Apples Jade looks every inch the stayer to me. Would be in the stayers hurdle were she mine.

I like Consul De Thaix at a price. Took 90’s on the exchange where you can still get 42’s. I think both second place finishes behind Brain Power deserve a lot of respect.
