Oops, Bobby, just saw yours. Sorry to hear that, mate. Promising type too and improving. Unlucky.
January 3, 2017 at 23:17 #1280152Cheers Joe, was very keen on his chances, but hopefully he’ll be the last setback for me…………but I doubt it though lol
January 4, 2017 at 02:12 #1280166My first proper Ante-Post reverse of the season, with the news that Three Faces West is out for the season…..dammit

That’s bad luck there Bobby, he looked a real prospect. We both still have The Young Master, although
if I’m honest, I was a bit disappointed with his run in the Becher Chase. I can’t find it anywhere, but
I could swear I remember someone, jockey or connections, after the race making some comment to the effect
that the National looked unlikely. However I noticed last week on Neil Mulholland’s site that he commented ……“I thought The Young Master jumped very well until he made a tired-looking mistake two out. He should come on
for the run both physically and mentally, as he would have learned a lot from jumping the National style fences
and we are still very much on target to be back there for the big one in April.”I thought he looked safe enough, although he had a tendency to slightly lose ground at some of his fences.
He made up between them, but followed the same pattern until clearly he wasn’t going to be involved
and was well behind when he fell. I’m not so bothered about him not being involved, the Becher
wasn’t his target and he clearly looked like he wasn’t wound up for the race. I’ve watched the
race a number of times, and Sam wasn’t hard on him from a long way out before he fell, but I just
wonder if he enjoyed jumping the Aintree fences. I’m maybe being over critical, I hope I am, but
I’m not just as Gung-Ho as I was a couple of months back. Our money is already in the bookies satchel,
so I guess we will just have to sit it out until April
January 4, 2017 at 18:36 #1280238Thanks Graham, gutted with Three Faces, and I had a few quid on

Thankfully, I didn’t have as much on The Young Master so far, just a few quid last April, and a couple of quid in The Autumn. I’m like yourself, I thought he was poor, though I’ll watch the next run closely, but he really has to come on leaps and bounds.

Bad luck VTC with your bet
Onwards and upwards
January 4, 2017 at 19:14 #1280249Thanks Botchy, plenty more where he came from lol
January 14, 2017 at 16:13 #1282088Take 40s One For Arthur for the National for it will soon be gone. Tongue Tie has made a real difference and he can only go on from here
January 14, 2017 at 17:14 #1282104Good luck with the 40’s Joe, as you say, he’s definitely going the right way. As usual there’s a fair old few at 40’s and below in that market who you would happily swerve in favour of something like Arthur.
January 14, 2017 at 17:52 #1282112Ideal type, Bobby. Improving anyway before they fitted the tie, and should get in now after that. Jumps and stays.
January 14, 2017 at 20:12 #1282149Played 25s with 365
I think we’ve seen the winner today potentially
January 14, 2017 at 20:43 #1282153I’m just guessing, but I’d imagine that very few Grand National winners win a Grade 3+ in the same season as winning a National? I’ll do a little research

Is it certain to get in? Phil Smith is always banging on about how the quality has improved but too often potential improvers are kept out by deadwood at the top of the handicap. If he turns up likely to be 20/1-25/1, possibly shorter. I think he will handle quicker ground but not sure if his stalking style would be best suited to Aintree.
January 14, 2017 at 21:05 #1282156No, not certain by any means. Will go up 8 or 9 for today, maybe. But weights announcement is about a month away and assuming all is well with him, maybe they’ll get another convincing victory into him. Pity the Peter Marsh isn’t a couple of weeks away rather than next week.
Owners seem committed. Worse that’ll happen is stakes refunded, but if he gets in, it’ll probably be off the back of another strong win in which case he goes off 16s, maybe 14s imo. 40s way too big and still available.
January 14, 2017 at 21:11 #1282158Just went back 5 years…something to go on I think
Rule The World…placed in a Grade 1
The Last Samuri…placed in a Listed race
Vics Canvas…nothing (previously won Cork National + 2nd in Bet365 Chase at Sandown)
Gilgamboa…nothingMany Clouds…won a Grade 2
Saint Are…placed in a Grade 3
Monbeg Dude…placed in a Gr3
Alvarado…nothing (previously 4th in the Grand National)Pineau De Re…placed in a Listed race
Balthazar King…won a Listed race
Double Seven…won a Listed race
Alvarado…won a Gr3Auroras Encore…nothing (previously 2nd in the Scottish National)
Cappa Bleu…placed in a Listed race
Teaforthree…placed in a Gr3
Oscar Time…nothing (previously 2nd in the Grand National)Neptune Collonges…placed in a Gr3
Sunnyhillboy…nothing (previously 3rd in Irish National)
Seabass…won a Gr2
Cappa Bleu…placed in a Gr31/5 winners had won a Listed race (or better) that season
5/20 placed horses had won a Listed race (or better) that season
6/20 placed horses hadn’t been placed in a Listed race (or better) – of those 6, 5 had been at least placed in a National/marathon graded raceYou’d need to dig far deeper to get a true representation, but it looks interesting. Very simple theory behind it as well, I’d imagine…Listed (or better) wins result in a handicap rise that they cannot cope with that season.
January 15, 2017 at 04:03 #1282175Colleague of mine spoke to connections of One For Artheur at Aintree and said delighted by the run considering he scared himself at the first couple of fences. They had to win to get in the race. Think he’s a massive price at 33s personally.

Just watched One for Arthurs last 2 runs Joe and how he can be twice the price of ‘Vieux Lion Rouge’ beggars belief.Pipes horse doesn’t get the 41/2m trip where as Lucindas fine looking beast wants it.Paddy Power have let me have £10 e/w at 40/1 this morning on your horse so I’m pleased with that..If the National wasn’t such a tricky race I’d love a £50 e/w dabble but we all know jumping the first our thoughts are..’Why have I bet in this’..
We just want Phil Smith to raise him 10lbs and he’ll be getting a good 17lb off that beast called ‘Native River’ who has the class to carry the weight over the trip, his jumping would be my only concern there though.January 15, 2017 at 10:26 #1282187Had a punt at 40s with PP as well
