The RP’s addition of the 7lb penalty to the OR is a little confusing as it isn’t a new ‘official’ rating just a conditional hike in the weights for winning
Yes i agree. I shall check later and see what they put in the result, id guess they will have to revert back to the ‘official’ rating as it is.
I can see why some may prefer the addition but id like to see the figures displayed as facts and from what is being said they should be displaying the weight penalty as they are but the OR should not be increased.
He has actually ridden 2 winners in a row now as he also rode and won on his one ride at Salisbury the other night for Botti.
Time study is like anything else, its only relevant when comparing like for like.
But try finding two identically run races with same pace, ground, weather and tactics used.
When you introduce things like ‘ill adjust that a wee bit because it was raining’ it pretty much becomes guesswork.
Only time i really look is when its 5f sprints and after all other work i need an icebreaker when comparing two horses who pretty much always do go hell for leather.
Its rare as i say!
Im in the minority im sure but never have been a huge fan of Hughes.
Personally when i see Hannons horses with another top jock on board i am far more interested than when its Hughes.
Eucharist and Major Art are two recent ones i remember off the top of my head.
Mind you its always easy to remember the ones that suit your point of view!
Hi,
Not sure if helps but i ran your idea (losing fav last race turned out within 7 days) through the database.

– unique to gambling fora. You don’t generally get posts like "I ******* hate my rhodedendrons: They didn’t bloom ORANGE enough!" on http://www.mygardenworld.com/forum. At least I haven’t seen any.
Very amusing and very true
In general all id say is criticisms etc can be amusing and worthwhile if they are based on a topic and behind each view is a discussed opinion/thought. They in fact can make good entertainment and provide fine reading.
The same goes for started topics. Posting "xyz is a s**te jockey" is in my opinion pointless without some justifications and points behind the statement.
But to use the Betfair Forum as an example, i went on the other day (foolishly) after Harbingers win and there were at least 100 posted topics all saying such classic things as ‘Boooom’, ‘Told you so’ and ‘LOL @ WF’.
I left immediately as its dull, any thread worth visiting is taken over and the humour is about amusing as having diarrhoea.
Thats the trouble with the ‘if you dont like it ignore it’ argument, people ignore so much and then cant be bothered and leave.
The reason i took the unusual step of posting my original comment here was because when i visited this evening the first seven or eight topics i looked at had unamusing personal slagging matches taking over the thread, which ultimately lead those not involved to click out the site.
End of the day its no big deal to me, but quality horse racing forums are hard to come by so felt i might as well take 2 minutes to state my thoughts.
I believe whats happening at the moment within racing is a series of decisions made at times in desperation.
Really whats needed is some planned and deliberate thought into whats right about the sport and whats wrong and then seizing the chances to promote the good and either improve, reduce or destroy the bad.
Opportunities are being missed (as highlighted by others a good example being lack of coverage of Harbinger v WorkForce in main press) and in my opinion focus within RFC and other organisations is on the wrong areas or at best a scattered approach trying anything to dig themselves out.
Any good business works on the basis money will come if you get the basics right. Racing is at the moment trying anything to stay afloat it seems when in my opinion if they focused on the good and really built upon and used that as their foundation the sport would really flourish.
In this format im not sure much can be taken from the data.
As David asks, how are you distinguishing a drifter?
So because someones mother said this to you, you stopped backing horses. I do not mean offence but i find that hard to be true.
Its very hard to make a profit in any sport. Horse Racing is no exception but with the correct approach it is still possible.
According to some there is corruption here, there and everywhere, personally i find this ridiculous and to be honest quite boring.
Take the other thread regarding Fallons ride in the first at Yarmouth. I made a point regarding the fact this horse hung badly on its first start and did so again today. Nobody even replied to this point as its preferred to just presume he wasnt trying.
The point made in relation to the stalls at Ballinrobe this evening is a well made one and it is instances such as this which should be focused on. Quite clearly this is an unacceptable way to treat punters as the conditions they have bet on have changed.
But all the endless threads whenever someone backs a loser and claiming its down to corruption are extremely dull at this stage.
The horse is the issue here not the jockey. Watch the race again, Fallon did well to get it as close as he did.
The horse hangs very badly and also did so on its first run.
Huge Fallon fan, however the man seems seriously out of form for the last month or so, hopefully he finds the old magic soon enough.
Im the same as you JJM, ive always been a fan and also backed him up a few times in these debates that crop up.
As you say this last month or so he has struggled a bit, in June he only rode 15 wins from 128 rides which for his standards is poor.
Yes as you say its quite a task.
However i do believe it could be worthwhile providing all the data is included.
I emailed Newmarket and will see what they reply with. Perhaps they have a strategy for choosing which split of the course is used and its easy enough to apply a backdate – then again maybe not!
Thanks but perhaps i didnt make myself clear.
I know whether its the Rowley or July course. What i cant find out is whether they ran the races on the far side or stands side splits within those tracks.
For example tomorrow its the July course and within that
Stands’ side course: 1m 2f – Centre; Remainder – Far side
Some of the backdated ones are on the RP but others are not.
I dont think its any different to any other business of sport. Thats life i guess.
I do know what you mean though and on this occasion am slightly disappointed with the decision as having won the Irish, i fail to see why the owner felt the need to move it as clearly Buckler was doing something right.
Interesting. Heres some horses who have never won but started favourites numerous times
