Having read JJM’s comments i can only agree with his sentiments entirely.
Unfortunately as is the case with many of these initiatives, racing or otherwise, what they fail to and are basically unable to do is appreciate exactly how the intended target (in this case students) actually feel already about the subject.
You see these kind of things all the time and i cant help but feel, although i admire the effort, the money could be better put to use targetting more realistic and prosperous areas.
Personally i think its overkill.
Saturating the day with so many races leads to a large majority of possible racegoers summarising the whole day as garbage and not bothering.
A carefully planned process with at least 1 quality race at each meeting would better serve, instead of the current process "lets squeeze in as much as we can no matter how bad it is"
I think Hangan is certainly good and i wouldnt be put off him riding any given horse.
However i would not go so far as to say he is great and would certainly not bracket him with Moore and Fallon.
We decided not to go this year, although its fair to point out in the end family commitments were the main reason for that!
Still, their website annoyed me and i also phoned up initially and was dealt with by someone with a ‘your wasting my time’ attitude who was as helpful as basil fawlty doing a fire drill.
Maybe its just me but i actually have become fonder of the smaller meetings (and smaller tracks) where majority of time you feel people are grateful your attending.
Luck evens itself out.
If your up there knocking on the door consistently then inevitably you will have days when everything just falls into place.
Although i know it doesnt seem like that! Had 4 seconds from 6 the other day myself.
Still id rather have a load of seconds than them all being miserably tailed off.
I think it would be more ethical if they clearly stated at the point of buying. "please note this ticket does not include etc etc"
For larger priced staking you will inevitably come across long losing runs and its a bit of a catch 22 if you use a percentage, as you say you will return less if a big winner comes in at a stake based on a smaller bank size. Of course it works the other way also and you could get good luck and a couple of winners in a row.
Ultimately though for these longer priced systems my general recommendation is to use standard points backing, but you could set a rule that if the trend and profit continues the points staked may rise by 0.1 at set targets (but drop again if the bank does).
Yes david, well to an extent anyway.
Named after the nickname of one of the main associates of Bertie Ahern who came to prominence in Ireland during the infamous and ridiculously state funded expensive hearing into his personal finances.
Love the hellcatmudwrestler name – is that real??
I think running out of horse names is one thing we dont have to worry about!

On that note though anyone got any names they like and think are imaginative. Ill start with an obvious one but a classic nonetheless Forpadydeplasterer
As you say, no real surprise but certainly well deserved.
Like marmite is right i think Barry
Personally i like him, majority of the time. He can be very amusing in his own way and i agree he knows his stuff.
Couldnt agree more, its bordering on ludicrous.
How anyone with a brain could not think to themselves "if we spread these out we will widen the appeal" is beyond me.
Sometimes i despair
Be interested to see if you get a reple Factorman
Please do tell!
Yes there are always a nice few memories and the Hunter Chase successes recently of Take The Stand is another example.
These old horses should really be highlighted to attract new punters as they are normally stories of truly loved horses who truly love the sport.
Great stuff
Yes, a real shame and loss of a truly gutsy horse – condolences to all concerned
Toyed with them and won at a canter, fantastic stuff.
What a joy to watch. Have to love the exuberant commentating too
Is it a bird, is it a plane. No its Zenyatta
