No surprise really, but Big Buck’s has become the first ever winner of the the Horse of the Year title to be publicly voted for on the BHA website http://www.britishhorseracing.com
The winner, who polled 32% of the 1,500 votes cast, was announced at the Anglo-Irish Jumps Racing awards in London by none other than James Nesbitt, the nations favourite Anglo-Irishman.
Can’t have any argument really, he utterly and completely dominated his division (Big Buck’s, not James Nesbitt).
Finishing order as voted –
1. Big Buck’s
2. Imperial Commander
3. Kauto Star
4. Denman
5. BinocularMay 24, 2010 at 18:23 #296736
May 24, 2010 at 18:32 #296738Albertas Run is my Horse of the year! Big Bucks needs to jump fences before he is in the Kauto star/ Denman league!
May 25, 2010 at 09:18 #296804He will have no problem proving himself over fences also. In other circumstances would already have done so but I guess we all know the story. Too many riches in too few hands but you can`t blame the owners/trainers.
May 25, 2010 at 11:53 #296828As you say, no real surprise but certainly well deserved.
May 25, 2010 at 16:53 #296874Not sure how many voted but I think it was a surprise as he doesn’t attract anywhere near the same level of coverage as Kauto Star.

is this the same public who only goto racing because its sunny and free?
Shocking to have Big Bucks ahead of Kauto Star let alone Imperial Commander.
May 25, 2010 at 17:16 #296881He’s a good thing every time and delivers every time, usually in style. Born to win
That’s why he won (again)

May 26, 2010 at 10:36 #296951Correct choice in my opinion. Difficult to envisage any other horse beating him in the staying hurdles division next season either.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
May 28, 2010 at 12:32 #297280Ridiculous; 3 mile hurdlers only run at 3 miles because (1) they can’t jump fences, and (2) they are too slow for 2 mile hurdles.
It falls last in prestige behind 3 mile chases,2 mile hurdles and then 2 mile chases, and especially this year was the least competitive division.May 28, 2010 at 17:26 #297330is this the same public who only goto racing because its sunny and free?

Mr Wilson…Big Bucks is not a horse I’ve backed very often so I’m not talking through my pocket or any misplaced loyalty, but only he could be the NH Horse Of The Year, there are no other contenders and to suggest Kauto Star or Imperial Commander (or even Hurricane Fly for his sensational comeback) is quite frankly ludicrous.
