Its strange really that a sporting event can create such excitement, but this is the equivalent of the the world cup to those of us who love horse racing.

Fantastic week and it actually makes me proud to be a horse racing man. Great stuff and cant wait.

The way certain organisations have so many tipsters that no matter what they claim to have tipped the winner

I used to buy it daily but believe better info is now available online, that said i still buy it whenever im out and about.

It has its flaws (too many of them!) but to have with you on a train journey to a track or with a quiet pint (as random examples), there is no alternative.

Ouch! "crack in a vertebra in his neck" sounds like one of those extremely painful things i hope never to experience! Wishing Sam a speedy recovery.

From a punting perspective it looks like Paddy Brennan will take most of his rides for Tom George while Barry Geraghty will ride Tricky Trickster.

Others have said it, but i have to agree. This is a wild comparison.

A fantastic prospect yes but certainly not Arkle vs Mill House.

    Were you being sarcastic?

They wont change it and quite rightly so i would think.

Imagine if your friend was now aware of some new info on Nadal or had realised he could get a better price elsewhere.

Ultimately these types of bets have to stand to be fair to both parties, anything else sets a precendent and you would have all kind of claims and arguments cropping up when one side decided they no longer wanted the bet.

Change to actual race planning structure meaning an overall better quality and prize system.

Some simple suggestions to making it possible –

Reduce to six races per card. This could make remaining races better quality/higher prize on offer and in some needed cases get the field size up.

Have one clearly superior race at each meeting, therefore giving the press and punters plenty to talk about, getting the sport more coverage.

If necessary to achieve an overall better standard drop the number of meetings.

Not a race i would say has anything worth lumping on. An extremely close call indeed. Indeed 6 of the field won on their last outing (American Job being 3rd albeit in a decent Grade 2).

Also with your EW comments id be weary of 1 dropping out and you being down to 2 places.

So not for me, but nonetheless best of luck.

I would have thought a good idea would be to simply remove some of the dross and with a reduced fixture list have better prize money to spread around.

I appreciate the bookmakers have to be kept happy, but look at the system in Ireland and the fact a large majority of their meetings have a quality race on the card.

To make racing appealing is all good and well and i agree something must be done, but waffling on about set days and themed events (i saw mention of world cup related races) is just side-stepping the real issues IMO.

Its not to say certain actions wont help, but id be looking firstly at the overkill of dreadful meetings which are only in existence to keep the bookies happy.

Congratulations, i say. Getting three winners is always an achievement and the fact two of them were 2/1 is certainly not to be sneered at in any way.

Acting purely as devils advocate i decided to test the scenario where the three mentioned jockeys (McCoy, Walsh & Johnson) have been involved in a head to head (with all three involved).

In all races since 1997 the following is the outcome.

Total Races (where all 3 involved) – 675
    McCoy Winners – 96 (14.2%)
    Johnson Winners – 57 (8.4%)
    Walsh Winners – 122 (18.1%)

If you change this slightly and make it that all 3 were on a horse with a realistic chance (10/1 or less) you get the following.

Total Races (where all 3 involved and every jockey rode a 10/1 shot or less) – 220
    McCoy Winners – 37 (16.9%)
    Johnson Winners – 29 (13.2%)
    Walsh Winners – 44 (20%)

Therefore, i believe this is pretty conclusive proof of the ability of Walsh in comparison to the other two. Similarly showing McCoy is superior to Johnson.

    Anyone disagree?

Sorry i forgot to answer my own question. It was one of those where if anyone had got it, i would have been mightily impressed!

You were very close with Redemption, so fair play there!

Jaloux Destruval (FR) – 8 falls
Redemption, Ceoil Agus Craic (IRE) & Venn Ottery – 7 falls each

I would’ve thought if you’re going to write a song about the all weather, a much more appropriate song would be, ‘Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I think I’ll go & eat worms’

    I’ll second that!

Going by the definition Fell i ran a quick database check since 1st Jan 2000 and the answer is

    UK
    Chase – 6601
    Hurdle – 4186

    Ireland
    Chase – 3815
    Hurdle – 2434

Note this doesnt include any Brought down, Carried Out, Refused To Race etc.

It also obviusly includes many duplicates (horses who have fell more than once). Out of interest in the same time period, would anyone care to guess which horse has fallen the most times (8)?

Thats the thing about all these promotions, they are designed to suck new people in and then once they are there hopefully get them playing slots or whatever and blowing all their cash.

There will always be a few who work a way out of exploiting the offer and getting their granny, cousin, neighbour and dog to also sign up and somehow guaranteeing a profit. Good on those few that get away with it i say.

Its not news of course that the bookie will frown upon this and try and prevent.

At least the complaint was upheld.

Who doesnt love snoopy?? I have a smile at the prospect also i must admit

I remember in the Betfair Chase in 08 when my wee boy was cheering him on, i obviously felt he had no chance. Then Kauto unseated Sam Thomas and the rest is history.
The most fun ive had without having a bet in the race!
