Hi all, wondering if some of you could give me advice on a bet that a friend of mine recently placed was Corals.
He placed a £200 double on Nadal to win the French Open and Dunguib to win the Supreme Novices. Now he did that in the belief that the French Open started the weekend and just passed, and was finished this week so was hopeful of have a large sum riding on Dunguib in the first. (bet was placed 2 weeks ago)
Well he found out last week the French Open isnt uptil May and it is the start of the ATP Masters series that is the event coming up (his error).
He went into Coral (he is a local to the shop, and I have been going there for years) to see if he could cancel the Nadal portion of the bet and just have the £200 on Dunguib.
He was told no and the bet stands as it is – the local manager at Corals to be fair would have done it no bother, but it got referred to head office who said no, now there have been no price changes on either portion of the bet, i thought he would be able to change it no problem and he could have the £200 on Dunguib alone.
Anyone give any advice on this, is the bookies just playing by the letter of their rules etc, as it is a decent portion of his Cheltenham bank that was on. He has emailed Coral helpline to see what they say.
thanks
March 8, 2010 at 13:22 #281140So what was he going to do for the week if Nadal lost in France?
I don’t see why Corals should change the bet TBH.
March 8, 2010 at 13:35 #281148They wont change it and quite rightly so i would think.
Imagine if your friend was now aware of some new info on Nadal or had realised he could get a better price elsewhere.
Ultimately these types of bets have to stand to be fair to both parties, anything else sets a precendent and you would have all kind of claims and arguments cropping up when one side decided they no longer wanted the bet.
