Time study is like anything else, its only relevant when comparing like for like.
But try finding two identically run races with same pace, ground, weather and tactics used.
When you introduce things like ‘ill adjust that a wee bit because it was raining’ it pretty much becomes guesswork.
Only time i really look is when its 5f sprints and after all other work i need an icebreaker when comparing two horses who pretty much always do go hell for leather.
Its rare as i say!
July 27, 2010 at 23:35 #309245And they also probably said the same thing the FIRST time Arkle, Flying Bolt, Ribot, Brigadier Gerard, Mill Reef, Dancing Brave etc. put up their first "great" performance.
Did Shergar put up more than one exceptional performance?
It’s easy to mention the Hawk Wing’s of this world. Who incidentally, was injured at Ascot after his Newbury rout. So we don’t know what he might have gone on to achieve.
Of course it’s possible Harbinger is over-rated. But the evidence as it stands suggests he’s a 140 horse, or at least high 130’s.
MOST horses who are "thought" to be this good, actually go on to prove it.

Shergar is the most overated horse in the last 35 years IMHO!!!. Very poor Derby and KG that season!!!. Feel sorry he disappeared though
July 27, 2010 at 23:42 #309246Strange, because it’s THE best ever Derby performance according to Timeform. Sea Bird put up better performances elsewhere.

One I can’t quite see why he was not rated higher is Slip Anchor. beating a subsequent Irish Derby winner by 12 lengths. With good horses behind that. Shame he never produced another.

Thats probably why i dont hold much of a candle to times

Poor field i thought that year in the Derby

Think they were dazzled by the acceleration from slow horses
July 28, 2010 at 10:12 #309293Calling me a mug TAPK?
Surely not.

Respect from me Soldier! I can feel a "Spizzenergi" song coming on "Soldier, soldier" or even an "Angelic Upstarts" "Last night another soldier" or what about "SLF"s "Tin Soldier"?

They treat y’ all the same.
Spizzenergi, were they the ones that changed their name every year? Athletico Spizz 80 and so on.
Was "Where’s Captain Kirk" one of theirs? Or "Space Invaders"? May be confusing them with someone else.
Were you ever in to Attilla The stockbroker? Punk Poetry?
Didn’t that bloke on Corrie used to be a rock poet? The cabbie.
Value Is EverythingJuly 28, 2010 at 23:22 #309543Are you going to Goodwood tomorrow Barry?
I’ve already backed Harbinger for the Arc but….
If you don’t think Harbinger is the real deal, put your money where your mouth is and lay me£100 @ 3/1 for the Arc
.

Make it 7/2 and I’ll have more.
O.K.
That was a bit daft of me saying 3/1 and 7/2 when nothing like that is available. What about 9/4 Barry?
Thanks for agreeing to lay me some more 2/1 Barry.
A man who puts his money where his mouth is.

2 tun @ 2’s Cheers Barry.

Oh but its true as we went warp factor 2,the changes i have been through as Captain Kirk"!Barrys having your pants down mate at 2/1! You being the seeker of value and that, tells you theres a 50% chance of rain in Paris in October and Harbinger hates to get his feet wet! He wont be running or winning if there"s the slightest bit of cut!
