This is Richard’s blog from Sportinglife Cormack –
The blog up above is virtually identical to the one that appears on Sportinglife.com
Oh how I miss the days of Dr Vincent..he’d have pulled that phone away from his ear and smacked him around the lug with it

If he was with the late great Dr O’Brien the horse would have been retired along time ago.
Thanks for the update.
I see Silvoir has been looking in today….can he help with this? When is the decision likely to be made and why exactly has it taken so long for one to come?
Yes I was aware of that thanks Cormack – just wondering has there been anything "rearranged" since then…nearly two months ago now at this stage? Cannot be that complicated..
Whatever became of this? Anyone from the BHA around to update?
What a truly ridiculous statement.
Agreed – all these stats (picked and ignored as seen fit) used as a final decider of a race months in advance, particularly for a two year old is indeed ridiculous.
Someone summed it up earlier for me – place is so (too) big now in terms of sub sections and in terms of sheer number of threads (often on the same topic) posted by members who I dont recognise or who wont stick around for long – all in all alot of work.
But that could just be me being lazy.
He was second in a Group 2 race just 8 days ago Mr W.
More likely to be the reason why he got beat on Sunday…
Murtagh’s 20 length comment was completely off the cuff….
Meanwhile you should read the Racing Post as the sectional time was mentioned it in this morning – though I am not sure we all demand the workout times now too! So yes we did have all the information before and after the race.
You are clueless….if there was a bug or virus in the yard it would not matter if the horses are in their A,B,C,D or E Grade – they just would not be winning.
If you cannot see that they are simply not strong in the three year old division then I give up. In fact give up anyway.
Please Aidan, We are NOT talking about the B team winning in Ireland during the Ascot meeting. We ARE talking about last years stars not delivering this year.Again let me repeat At First Sight 4th in a Group Two. Fencing Master 6th in a Listed race. Are you getting the picture? It gets worse Rip Van Winkle 6th in a Group One.Beethoven, Steinbeck in last four to finish out the back door in a Group One. Now add to that the failure of the Derby favs.(French and English)and even you must acknowledge that "Houston We Have a Problem" If you don’t want to address the failures I am pointing out good enough but please stop using Limerick and Fairyhouse to justify the vast expense of raising thoroughbreds.
I would be shocked if Age of Aquarius is not tailed off.
Age Of Aquarius just touched off, Lillie Langtry wins the Group 1, Mikhael Glinka wins the Group 3, another winner at Limerick tonight. I bet most stables wished that all bugs had the same affect on their horses. When they have been good enough they have won, when they have lost it has been because they have not been good enough.
If they didnt run St Nicholas Abbey because he was sick, why on earth would they run Rip Van Winkle if they knew there was a problem.
Last time when there was a bug in the yard O’Brien shut the stable down for a few weeks….why wouldnt he do it now?
As for the Derby pacemaker…there are actually plenty of examples…Dylan Thomas made the running at 20/1 and no Ballydoyle horse caught him, The Great Gatsby made the running as an outsider and no Ballydoyle horse caught him either…
You are talking absolute nonsense and it is pretty tiresome – particularly when you are ignoring the winners they are banging in in Ireland (double on Sunday). Those claimers have ridden in Group 1s and Classics in Ireland over the last few seasons – that is O’Briens style.
When was the last time that Aidan could not get a horse(any horse) ready for Ascot Aidan? "Drifting" is the popular euphemism for "problem". In the Derby they scratched the fav. rather than let him "drift" any further. When being told to keep him in for a few days it was decided to put him away for the autumn. When was Aidan not able to get anything to catch his pacemaker in the derby? And today the pacemaker could not even get to the front in the St.James’s Palace Stakes.Johnny was looking round for him! When did Ballydoyle have a 2yo ridden by Murtagh start at 20/1 at Ascot and be beaten a short head?Sooner or later somebody has to say we don’t know what to expect from the runners from Ballydoyle.Things are so lost that two claimers were put up today (at Ascot!) in the hope that they, who are probably the morning riders would get a response from the horses.Incidentally they had three in the bottom four in that race(St James’s Palace Stakes). And Makfi(the other horse) was found to be ill.Now you tell me Ballydoyle does not have a "drifting" issue.
It shows a problem when nothing runs as expected.
Rip Van Winkle drifted, Steinbeck drifted….what on earth are you talking about?
I do not see why a stiff straight mile will not suit Rip Van Winkle seeing as he gets 10 furlongs. Also he is a pacesetter as well – there will be plenty of pace in this.
I actually find myself leaning towards Paco Boy for this.
He will have to improve to beat Goldikova and Rip Van Winkle, but the latter is having his first run and I don’t think he will be at his best on the straight Ascot course.
Goldikova is the one to beat, but Paco Boy thrives over a straight mile and the race could be set up for him, with Cat Junior the only notable pacesetter in the field.
It could very well be a different story in the Sussex and QEII, but with everything looking to favour Paco Boy ie trip, ground, I will side with the Richard Hannon horse on this occasion.
Zacinto is an interesting ew alternative, but can you have complete faith in a horse who has finished last on his previous two visits to the racecourse?
4 runs by June 3rd.
Horse hasn’t a chance of lasting until October.
Never heard of Dylan Thomas then?
Giant’s Causeway was not exactly a turn of foot merchant either but it did not stop him racking up a great CV. It speaks volumes for those that cannot see the merits of Fame And Glory because he is not flashy. A relentless galloper with a great attitude – a top class racehorse.
