Who to, who to be, who to be a Yorkie!

Aint been on for a while, but to say I’m delighted at how things are going for Yorkshire at the moment is an understatement.
Semi’s in the FP Trophy, Quarter’s in the Twenty20 and top of the tree in the real stuff (County Championship)
In true good old Yorkshire fashion I fully expect us to end up with nowt again though.

On two already that have already been mentioned.
Strongly fancy the chances of Fleeting Spirit in the King Stand and Bankable in the Royal Hunt Cup.
Still kicking meself for not wading into Fleeting Spirit when she was 5’s.
Was very impressed with Spin Cycle myself David. The thing I missed that night though was the times of the later races, was it a generally fast night all round as far as times go, or was Spin Cycle that good?
I remember them saying just after the race that it ran just a fraction outside a 30 odd year course record and that was without the jockey having to ask any serious questions.
Thought the horse was mightily impressive, especially at the business end of the race.
2:50 – POULE D’ESSAI DES POULAINS.
Thewayyouare – 2 pts win.
3:25 – POULE D’ESSAI DES POULICHES.
Kayaba – 1 pt e/w.
Yeah not the best looking pitch at Old Trafford by the looks of things. The thing that strikes me there is the pretty disappointing figures for Steve Harmison on what looked like a very bowler friendly wicket. After all the shouting he’s been doing in the press lately 1-49 off 18 on that wicket Isn’t the kind of form that’s gonna get him back in the England set-up.
Hampshire aren’t a bad looking team on paper and were always going to bounce back from the humiliating thrashing they recieved at Headingley a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah good call again mate.
I agree, that if you’ve the time and the effort to put in you’ve as much chance to make a few quid in three horse races like this than on the horses.
The only things going against you really is the very unpredictable English weather (which very nearly caught you out today) and the odd big shock. See Lancashire v Scotland today for that.
I too thought Nahoodh was extremely unlucky and thought the horse would have won with a clear run in the closing stages.
If I was Mick Channon I’d be absolutely furious with that.
Congratulations to the winner though.
Just having a look through some results on Sporting Life and came across an interesting one which I can’t recall seeing before? Didn’t see the race but there was obviously an enquiry and the winner kept the race, Ajaan in the last at Newmarket…
mid-division, headway over 2f out, led over 1f out, ridden and hung badly right and headed just inside final furlong, swerved violently right and smashed into leader inside final furlong
, stayed on to close homeThat’s fair enough then Colin, cheers for that.
I’ve only seen the race the once which was obviously in the heat of the moment with my hard earned going down the drain, and as I say it looked a disappointing ride in that ‘heat of the moment’, especially coming straight after what I thought was a terrific ride from Robert Winston.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the ride he gave Passage Of Time. That’s only my opinion though and probably a biased one at that due to the fact I lost money on it.
I thought when the chips were down he never, ever got serious on the horse and didn’t finish as close as he maybe could have done.
I think what made the ride come across as not that good to me, was the fact that in the race just before it at Thirsk I’d backed Criterion, who 2 furlongs from home looked to have not much chance at all and appearing to go backwards, only for Robert Winston to ‘go to work’ and get that bit more out of his horse to come back and gain what I thought was looking an unlikely win.
IMO, both these horses looked in a similar situation a couple of furlongs from home, but one jockey gave it everything and threw the kitchen sink at it and got up to win, while the other didn’t and trailed in a disappointing 4th.
I now wait to be shot down in flames.

i see Lancashire’s Brad Hodge has joined the IPL side Kolkata for 5 weeks
They’ve just signed one hell of a replacement though in the short term.
Mohammad Yousuf is some player and will go very well for them IMO.
Still happy with our start though and weather permitting, I can see us skittling out Notts pretty cheaply tomorrow for a 1st innings lead of over a hundred.
Got to say well done to Man Utd for seeing off what I thought was an average looking Barca side tonight and making it an all English final. That’s difficult aswell coming from a long suffering Leeds fan (believe me!)
Especially pleased for Paul Scholes though, who’s been a terrific player at the top level for a long time now and was so unfortunate to miss out the last time they won it.
For all the quality players Barcelona have, they create far too little goalscoring chances for me and would be far better at times going either route one down the middle or swinging balls in from either flank in and around the six yard box.
Their apparent need to practically walk the ball in whenever they go forward has been their undoing again IMO.
Ali Carter joins the party with a 147 of his own in his match tonight with Peter Ebdon. Ronnie must be gutted at having to share that £157,000.
Just to add, I think Ronnie is one of the most naturally gifted sportsmen I’ve ever seen this country produce. To be fair to the lad he’s had far from your average upbringing and been dealt a few cruel blows in his life away from the game.
Taking that into account, is it that surprising that he’s a bit of a loose cannon at times? I can certainly forgive him and sit comfortably and admire one of the all time greats of the game.
Yes mate same here.

Really thought Ding would give it a good go this year.
Have to say the way Stephen Maguire has played so far has been nothing short of sensational. Had the Rocket played anything like Maguire has so far, I reckon he’d be odds on to win the tournament.
Surely at this moment in time Maguire looks the likely winner.
It wasn’t the fact it was beaten, it was the fact that the winner was from the Nicholls stable and was 33/1 and won a shade cosy IMO.
Good to see my boys off to a good start.

As long as the likes of Hoggard, Bresnan and Rashid continue to play for Yorkshire and avoid International call-ups, then we’ve a cracking chance of racking up some good early points in the Championship table.
Great start from Hoggie today and a reminder he hasn’t given up his chances of an England place just yet.
