I think one thing everyone can agree on, is that both Master Minded and Denman both jumped superbly and both won very well.

What I find interesting is that people are quick to say Kauto didn’t run to true form with not jumping fluently and making a few mistakes, but I’m yet to see anyone point out that both Voy Por Ustedes and Fair Along were far from foot perfect at every fence and both made two or three blunders along the way.

One thing I am sure of, is that if Nicholls can get them both to Cheltenham this time next year in good heart, then I certainly won’t be backing against either of them. I may even start my ante-post now with a double.

Quite a few similarities in this thread as in the other Gold Cup threads knocking the efforts of Denman because other horses apparantly under-performed, rather than praising Denman for being far too good on the day and running his rivals ragged.

He’s a very special horse and will retain his crown again in twelve months time with ease IMO.

Yep, just as I thought Haye way too good.

Said afterwards he ended it sooner than he thought due to a cut. He said he was gonna slowly break him down and take him apart which is how I saw the fight going, but getting cut changed his gameplan and made him go for the ko sooner.

Can’t wait to see him rock the heavyweight division.

    Hard Luck

Was over ten years ago and a six horse accumulator, I can’t even remember any of the horses I had in the bet now, but can remember that the first five all won and I had roughly £680 going on to the last one which was something like a 4/6 shot and the shortest price of the lot. It got well and truly stuffed anyway and let me down for what would have been a very large amount for me back then.

    Good Luck

Not the biggest amount I ever won this one, but certainly the most enjoyable. It was when Moonax won the St.Leger, I think it won at 40/1, but I had a fiver each way on it at 66/1. There’s just something that more enjoyable about having a winner at those kind of odds. Another factor that made it worthwhile, was the fact that I had sneaked away from my sister’s wedding to go to the bookies and back it and watch the race. Can remember the looks I got in the bookies, a youthful 18 year old suited up carnation and all screaming Moonax home.

    Ahh the memories.

Really looking forward to this one and will definitley be staying up for it.

Can’t see anything other than David Haye winning by knockout and think even money for that is a terrific bet.

Enzo has no doubt improved of late, but I feel like with a lot of Frank Warren fighters, he has had very suitable and pretty easy opponents hand picked to get him to where he is. He’s fought no-one with anything like the speed and power of Haye and IMO will not be able to live with that.

Haye has to be hugely applauded for even taking this fight on. With the trouble he has at making the cruiserweight limit, who could have blamed him for not taking this fight and moving up to heavyweight after de-throning the number one cruiserweight Mormeck in his own backyard. He could quite easily have been content with beating the best in the division and not going through the trouble of boiling down and making himself weight-drained, but he’s putting plenty on the line to give the fans what they want.

I predict a cagy opening two or three rounds with both men feeling their way into the fight behind their jabs, before Haye stamps his authority and power and finishes it in round 4, 5 or 6.

Have to say I was mightily impressed with Arsenal tonight, a thoroughly deserved victory, against what I thought though was a poor Milan side.

You can see why they are so far adrift in their league, they rely far too heavily on Kaka and if he doessn’t fire you can’t see where goals are gonna come from.

Not taking anything away from Arsenal though, well played tonight.

Barcelona have to be worthy favourites though don’t they? With the firepower of the likes of Henry, Ronaldinho, Messi etc.. if on song they’re gonna take some stopping IMO.

Forgive my ignorance, but how does this system work?

I’ve been looking closely on this section of the forum and found some really interesting systems being tried out, most of them really straight forward to follow and understand.

This one however, really has got me scratching my head??

Love the two articles there Tuffers, great reads, had to laugh at the second to last paragraph in that first link.

Just for the record, I watched the preview late last night and was very interested in the views of Dave Nevison. I thought in every race he assessed, he gave very good reasoning behind his selections (and reasons why he was against other horses) and clearly knows the game very well.

I’ll be watching with interest next week to see how his picks go on and I’ll probably be on a few of them too.

Some great memories there and a reminder to me what a great commentator Peter O’ Sullivan was, sent a shiver down my spine watching the Dessert Orchid one.

Also a reminder of the amount of things you can watch back with the likes of youtube available nowadays. Just had a great trip down memory lane for me watching Istabraq win his three Champion Hurdles, sending yet more shivers down the old spine.

    Yes I have to agree!

What a superbly informative and interesting post to read.

Has definitely opened my eyes a little, as to how hard a job like that must be and the amount of time it would take up, especially if you were looking after a number of jocks.
