Strange. 17 pages worth of devoted messaging about the boys’ Classic and nothing for the fillies but a few scattered bits and pieces here and there.
Anyway – the verdict is I am taking a backseat for today as I have too many reservations over the entire field.
Natagora to stay the mile? Not convinced.
Who is the protagonist in the Cheveley crew?
Does the APO’B placement prevail again?
How is Muthabara?
I was treated with a handy 19/1 about the Henrythenavigator/New Approach quinella and then that was shaved a little by Big Brown thumping the lot at Louisville. Best to pack up shop for this week.
If you are focusing largely on today’s Stanjamesuk.com 1,000 Guineas – I wish you the best of luck.
May 4, 2008 at 10:10 #161479I have been behind Infallible since her debut so I have to stick with her. Definitely think she has the class and attitude but there is a little doubt about the trip. Having said that there are doubts about the other three as well. Muthabara shapes as if she wants further and contrary to Infallible looks a little short on class. Add to that the injury worry. Unlike the others Spacious has yet to show she has trained on and already having won over a mile at two may also be found wanting for pace. Natagora is probably the main danger but she also has the stamina worry and I am not sure that a simple translation of two-year-old form will be good enough.
If I wasn’t already on I wouldn’t advise any of them at current odds.
May 4, 2008 at 10:27 #161484Spacious scares me. I’m on Infallible but may back Spacious too there is an unerring quiet confidence behind that filly seemingly.
May 4, 2008 at 10:35 #161486Would have preferred some rain for Savethisdanceforme and at current prices the 1000 has very much a Pullein ‘No Bet’ look to it.
The lack of rain does allow us to have a really good bet on Judd Street in the Palace House Stakes though. Front 2 in the betting take out over half the book yet are having to do something they have never done before.
In a poor Jockey Club Stakes I took the view that 4/1 was a good price for a breahing operation to have helped Sixties Icon come back to the form he showed in the race last year. Think conditions wil place insufficient test on stamina for Getaway.
May 4, 2008 at 10:54 #161493I am on Infallible. Just a gut feeling that she is going to win and really impressed with her last performance. Think there is more to come
May 4, 2008 at 10:55 #161494I’ll stick with Infallible. She was visually very impressive in her trial, looks big powerful, scopey, travels, quickens and will have no trouble with the trip or the ground. STDFM and Natagora will be her biggest dangers. Kitty Matchem could be anything. A very tricky race imo.
May 4, 2008 at 10:59 #161495It does look horribly like a no-bet race, but I’ve had sweeties on Infallible as she looks pretty unexposed and was very impressive in her trial, and as much as I hate this phrase I’m about to write, 4/1 could look a real kick-yourself price by half past three.
May 4, 2008 at 12:21 #161505Infallible for me. She may not have beaten much in her two starts, but she couldn’t have been more impressive in the Nell Gwyn. She came from last to first in a moderately run race and quickened away in the manner of a very good filly inside the final furlong. She should prove even better in a stronger run race, which she is sure to get today.
Her trainer has a decent record with his fillies, particularly over this distance and Infallible clearly enjoys the undulations of Newmarket, given that both her wins have come at the track. She was still incredibly green both before and during the race and is sure to improve even further.
Like Henrythenavigator yesterday, Nahoodh is incredible value. Her Lowther win represents solid form, probably the strongest of the juvenile fillies. Princess Margaret winner Visit, Flying Childers and Molcomb heroine Fleeting Spirit and Unilateral, winner of the Firth of Clyde, were all held that day. She was always going to be a better three-year-old and is bred to stay this trip. Her usually bullish trainer was adamant that she would very much need her seasonal debut and she’s sure to improve a great deal from the run, which would have put her spot-on for today.
Another cracking ew prospect is Saoirse Abu. A duel Group 1 winner, she defeated yesterday’s 2000 Guineas hero Henrythenavigator in the Phoenix Stakes, with Queen Mary winner Elletelle back in third. Her Moygalre victory over Listen was reversed in the Fillies Mile, but she looks sure to improve for better ground. Even though she has shown to handle soft ground, it is not a neccessity and with New Approach running such a solid race on Saturday, Jim Bolger’s horses are obviously in good order.
May 4, 2008 at 12:25 #161506I’m on Spacious. Hopefully Mr. Spencer times it to perfection.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
May 4, 2008 at 12:28 #161507It’s hard to look beyond Natagora, although I have to take her stamina on trust, and Spacious may follow her home.
May 4, 2008 at 12:39 #161509If Natagora stays, she wins. I obviously think she won’t!!
She has shown a phenomenal amount of speed thus far and her jockey expressed doubts about her staying the mile after her Cheveley Park success. This is what he said after the race (pasted from the racing post)…
“She has a lot of natural speed, though, so it will be difficult for her to stay the mile. Her trainer will see how he can do to make her stay – but he will have a hard job, I think.”
The form of Spacious isn’t that strong, but, like Flash pointed out, there’s a tremendous amount of confidence behind her. Perhaps Spencer can ‘do a Cesare’ on her?
A great ride.May 4, 2008 at 12:57 #161514Cant help but think that Saoisre Abu, who, despite not looking great on yeilding ground reappearance has already won two group1s and beaten a 2,000 guineas winner in the process is slightly overpriced at 28-1, cant help but think she’ll be on the premises today, and considering she has only ever been out of the money once in 9 runs, she may be the forgotten horse of the race when you think that her best form is as good if not better than most of the form on offer today by the front ones in the betting.
IMO in this weak renewal of the 1000 its hard to believe that rather solid looking group1 form appear to count for nothing. For me she has to be worth a little bet for speculations sake.
May 4, 2008 at 13:01 #161515How many more horses do you want to give a chance – Infallible, Natagora, Spacious, Nahoodh, Saoirse Abu…………..
Nahoodh should like the ground but there has no money for it – I suspect she isn’t ready for this.
May 4, 2008 at 13:18 #161519Total of 16pts laid out on 1000 guineas
5pts Muthabara @ 7-1 (Would pay 40pts)
5pts Savethisdanceforme @ 10-1 (Would return 55pts)
3pts Kitty Matcham @14-1 (Would return 45pts)
2pts Spacious @ 8-1 (Would return 16 pts)
1pt Saoirse Abu @ 20-1 (Would return 21pts)Am considering doing another 1pt on Saoirse Abu which would see a point loss should spacious win.
May 4, 2008 at 14:26 #161534Natagora will mot stay…
May 4, 2008 at 14:30 #161535Yuk…those words tasted horrible! Made every yard
May 4, 2008 at 14:31 #161536That was excellent i think personally.
What a pace she set from the start, to keep that up and to never be headed was fantastic, really good horse and a very, very good performance.
