Bulwark last seen heading for Beechy Head…..Bravo Natagora!
May 4, 2008 at 14:36 #161540Gutted!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah well
May 4, 2008 at 14:43 #161543How unlucky Channon’s filly? Had it on my mind all winter ran a shocker of a trial but apart from Natagora she was the only one I was watching in the race. absoloutley cruised up and travelled really well. Whats the targets for this one then, I want a price now!
Agree with you on that one, came there absolutely cruising, would have been interesting to see where she would have placed if she had a clear passage.
May 4, 2008 at 14:45 #161544Watching the replay I don’t think Channon’s filly would’ve won anyway.
I got second and forth. Spacious will be a cracking filly over ten furlongs. Infallible didn’t stay.
The winner was a deserved one but she won’t beat the colts IMO.
May 4, 2008 at 14:45 #161545Congratulations to the winning jockey dictating a pace he wanted – excellent ride. Hard luck to anyone who backed Nahoodh each way. Sad to say Infallible had every chance but didn’t get home – back to seven furlongs I would presume. Overall standard probably pretty poor with eight horses finishing on top of each other.
May 4, 2008 at 15:12 #161548Nahoodh travelled supremely well throughout the race and I have no doubt that she’d have won had she had a competent pilot on board (I didn’t actually know who was riding her, but I said to my old man seconds after ‘I bet it’s Durcan or Hughesy’…and it surely was).
Hughes had no option but to stop riding in the last half-furlong (where she still made ground under hands and heels), but I fail to see the logic in switching her to the rail in the first place when he was only ever likely to hit trouble. Nahoodh was going like the best horse in the race two furlongs out and was seemingly sitting pretty in behind Saorsie Abu. The Bolger filly continued her line, finding room to run on for third, yet Hughes decided to accelerate into a pocket and run up the back-end of three horses.
Genius, and I suspect Channon will be going ballistic right about now.
May 4, 2008 at 15:13 #161549Great race and top performance by Natagora. Nahoodh was unlucky though. Lost my money but clear Infallible didnt stay. Think she is still a very good filly and will be backing her again when she drops back to 7f
May 4, 2008 at 15:20 #161553After what happened to Six Perfections in 2003, you wouldn’t begrudge Pascal Bary that bit of luck he received today. Mick Channon’s filly still didn’t look her best beforehand and you would expect her to improve again and beat Natagora next time.
Infallible travelled beautifully. She looked incredibly comfortable in a strong race, came to challenge and had every chance before tiring in the closing stages – she has 6 – 7 furlongs written all over her.
I’m gutted about Nahoodh. Backed the horse ew after her seasonal debut and again today. There’s no question she would have won.
Saoirse Abu ran a cracker to be third and did indeed improve for the better ground (28s ew, nice).
May 4, 2008 at 15:34 #161558How many more horses do you want to give a chance – Infallible, Natagora, Spacious, Nahoodh, Saoirse Abu…………..
Nahoodh should like the ground but there has no money for it – I suspect she isn’t ready for this.
I think you were referring to me, stilvi.
I backed Infallible to win, Nahoodh and Saoirse Abu ew. They finished 4th, 5th and 3rd, respectively. In a competitive, classy renewal of the first fillies classic, you could easily give a chance to half the field.
The same applied in the 2000, I selected my ideal winner (Raven’s Pass), a value ew bet (Henrythenavigator) and a lively outsider (Moynahan). They finished 4th, 1st and 6th, respectively.
It wasn’t like I was selecting New Approach, Raven’s Pass and Ibn Khaldun in the 2000 and Natagora, Infallible and Spacious in the 1000. My selections were chosen from a wide range of prices and were genuine fancies.
I witnessed two very good opening classics and collected on Henrythenavigator and Saoirse Abu, so I’m not complaining.
I hope you enjoyed the action.
May 4, 2008 at 15:36 #161560I too thought Nahoodh was extremely unlucky and thought the horse would have won with a clear run in the closing stages.
If I was Mick Channon I’d be absolutely furious with that.
Congratulations to the winner though.
May 4, 2008 at 17:28 #161575Natagora got me out of trouble today, well done Mr. Lemaire, excellent ride. Wish he’d been on Six Perfections, she would’ve been my biggest win on the flat. Thought Nahoodh would’ve won when watching live. But having seen it three or four times since, am totally undecided now. After Hughes chose to go up the rail, I do not see what he could’ve done differently. Yes, she travelled well but so do 99% of Hughes rides and Natagora travelled with at least equal ease. Had Natagora, Infallible and Spacious not been fighting it out with little between them, Nahoodh would’ve got through. She is certainly a filly of potential. I’d make them co favourites for the Coronation with Spacious after that. It will be interesting to see if they put a pacemaker in for Spacious. Her stables awful record first time out with three year olds suggests she may have done better, had they been able to get a prep race in to her.
Don’t think it was a great 1000 but the principals were the best looking horses in the field and all three look capable of better.
Infallible stayed the trip well enough, will possibly do better at seven furlongs but equally may have been beaten through inexperience ( had never been off the bridle).
Lush Lashes will be interesting for the Oaks provided it is a sound surface. After making up a tremendous amount of ground late on (outpaced early). Also bred to get further.Ginge
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2008 at 17:52 #161578Spacious would be my idea of the favourite for the Irish 1,000 Guineas: She travelled noticeably well until becoming unbalanced going into the Dip then grabbed the rising ground to be just beaten. I doubt the French filly will travel to Ireland (more likely to be kept fresh for Ascot) and in the rematch with Nahoodh I’d want to be on Spacious, especially if she’s a bigger price, as the Curragh’s flat expanses will suit her better.

Hope you didn’t think I was being too hard. The horses you put up ran very well.
I enjoyed the race as much as anyone could if you had a 40/1 each way ticket on Infallible. It could have been worse though as I was seriously thinking about Nahoodh each way on the day.

No problem. Actually, if I had my wits about me, I could have pointed out that your initial post had suggested I tipped the first five home!!

Hard luck with Infallible. If you had told me that you got 40/1 ew I’d have suggested you start counting your winnings before the race. I certainly couldn’t see her finishing outside the placings.
Nahoodh’s defeat left a bad taste. Not from a financial perspective, it just left me wondering what might have been. I think she would have won, but I guess we’ll never know…
May 4, 2008 at 20:38 #161607I would’ve had one of my biggest winners ever on Nahoodh today had she prevailed. Sometimes you just get a feeling for a horse and even though she ran poorly in the Fred Darling, I thought she would run well today. Got 50/1 on betfair (only for small change) and 9/1 in the place market. To say I got excited towards the finish was an understatement. However, unlike others on here, I refuse to blame the jockey. He may have got it wrong, but he already got one split to go past Muthabara and he obviously thought there would be ample chance to get another. The fact that Spacious came across and cut the gap off and Natagora continued in a straight line up the rail is one of those things.
With a bit more luck, I’d have had a great day. As it was, I ended up with two losing bets somehow! But I’ll take that as all my luck was used up trying to keep my beloved Coventry City in the Championship which they managed (fortunately for Richard Hughes!)
