Agree with Steve.

Quite clearly I’m jealous and yes it’s good for racing’s image (to the casual fan that C4 are aiming at) but I’m not sure ignorance should be celebrated like this. Saying thing’s like ‘i selected number one because I was on the M1 the other day’ doesn’t endear her to me I’m afraid. I’d like to think this game wasn’t down to chance, I’d do the lottery if that’s what I wanted, so i’d rather see a £2/week form student win.

Car crash TV, like watching Jade Goody’s mum.
Oh dear, I’m sounding quite elitist…

As a Wirralian it’s rude not to go.

Having sampled every stand I’d say that the best place to be is County Stand Roof, great view, v. close to the winning line and quite an intimate atmosphere. Get tickets on ebay the week before/week of the meeting. Always cheaper than face value (well for the last two years anyway, didn’t check the site before that), last year paid £40 for £72 tickets!

I’ve heard from various touts over the years that Aintree is an unprofitable meeting and I’d imagine anyone turning up on the day would be able to get a decent deal.

I think you should all get over both Thommo and Rishi. They do a good job of entertaining casual viewers, the type of people that BBC and C4 are rightly targeting with their coverage.

The type of people who post on this forum do so because they want to delve deeper into the sport and if terrestial tv were directed at us it would marginalise the sport.

I paid no interest at all to racing for the first 18 years of my life and if it wasn’t for the Beeb/C4 coverage I would never have got into it.

    Arkle didn’t exist.

It’s what those bureaucrats up at City Hall want you to believe.

No point in dreaming, he’ll never be as good as good as he could have been. My biggest ever antepost wager, will always have a soft spot for him,,,,

Fair points Reet but I think Maxilon hit the nail on the head as far as my opinion on the matter is concerned:

Quote: from Maxilon 5 on 6:28 pm on Nov. 18, 2006[br]I’ve had many a great evening watching top quality dogs recently and tend to ignore BAGS racing, which serves a purpose.

I see horseracing today in the same way, the AW/banded fayre serves a purpose and allows me to enjoy the top quality stuff.
I’ve made this point before and I’ll make it again…

If the quality at the top end is undiluted why is it a concern that there is more poor quality racing?

You can only have so much good racing, there’s only so many good horses, and I don’t think the big days are getting any worse.

If you like poor quality racing you’ll be happy there is more of it. If you don’t like it already, and presumably don’t watch it, why should it be a concern there is more of it?
