Which horse of the last 25 years prior to becoming champion sprinter, ran in the Derby?

Which of these didn’t or haven’t trained a winner for Sheikh Mohammed?

Lester Piggott, David Nicholson, John Francome, Nigel Tinkler

Graham Cunningham excellent contributor to Timeform radio, picked up some tips on backing to lay and generally finding him worth listening to. Not a fence sitter

John also was complimentary about Moonax before the leger 15 years ago or whenever it was, the nag won at 33s if I remember right.

I remember one of the very early Racing Post’s at Kempton, Scu on Bonanza Boy, Bonanza was virtually tailed off and Scu just would not give up on him, amazing ride and I reckon Francome like most others in the same position would have either pulled Bonanza up or gone through the motions.

If Betfair had been up and going then Bonanza would have slid to 250 at least.

Wasn’t Francome retired when Scu started riding for Pipe.

Francome is still an asset to channel 4, apart from his iconoclastic charm he can still impart knowledge to those of us who have never sat on a horse. They do need a clear out though Thommo would be first to go, contributes nothing of any value which would be in common with his tipping lines. McCririck as well with his tired, tired act.

I noticed Malcom Jefferson snubbed Thommo on saturday, suprisingly that’s only the second time I’ve seen that the first time being Ben Hanbury probably 20 years ago.

As my favourite code is flat (turf) my betting on horses is on hold at the moment in favour of footie and the NBA so I don’t need the new site but I am not impressed with what I have seen of it.

That first book of his was nothing special and quite thin, no great betting insights. All I seem to remember were negative words about the Richard Hannon’s, Paul Cole, Mark Prescott and Richard Hills and an account of what happens when ya claim a horse that is owned by a crime boss.

The George Duffield autobio is by far the best racing book I have read in recent times.

How could Fallon possibly find a slot with Godolphin. The Maktoum family are straight as a dye and believe in honour and integrity, the Maktoums are also givers not take, take, takers.

Is the assumption out there that Istabraq would have been vastly superior to Morley Street. How did Timeform see it. Smashing turn of foot had Morley Street.

Beech Road from memory won an above average Champion but I guess he’s been forgotten too.

Another example of horse racing shooting itself in the foot, if not the head. Introducing new charges just as the economy is sliding into a valley is madness and will only result in more punters turning to footie for their betting. The march to football betting is unstoppable anyway but this decision will accelerate it.

Horse racing will continue to shrink and if it’s not careful will end up as a cottage industry.

Oh yes and I’ll probably pay the new charge.

Corruption in racing is not endemic I don’t think but a lack of urgency in dealing with it with it is endemic. Those who have been found guilty are always welcomed back with with a warm embrace by insiders. That’s what sickens me.

Earlier this year R Winston was a guest on the morning line and instead of being hammered he just had to deal with Thommo and his unctious compliments.

I’m still getting over McKeowen and his apparent fresh air whip action.

I prefer Jim McGrath over all other commentators. One of the reasons is he has a fine, fine voice which some will say is neither here nor there but I think it’s important. Simon Holt on the other hand has an unremarkable dull flat voice
    .

Stewart Machin also has a fine voice as does Catt

Yes John Hunt has a tendancy to voice a winner of a seller at Wolves as if it was Oh So Sharp landing the triple crown but he also does a fine job, at his best when he’s on his mellow days.

Mark Johnston would probably be my least favourite.

Are all AP’s winners confined to GB & I? Has he never ridden anything home in France or Italy or Germany or even the US? Kind of suprised by that if it’s the case.

Racing cannot afford to cut off it’s nose to spite it’s face, that is the easy option and should be thankful for any coverage it receives from the beeb. Sponsors love that their races are on the BBC, they absolutely love it.

The stink of corruption that is always surrounding the sport must be a factor in these decision which is another reason why we must see some exemplary justice for wrongdoers not slaps on the wrist.

Win, lose or draw I shall not regret laying Briareus in the 2.50 Kempton, two years off and up against some classy opposition the nag is up against it. Starting to drift so I got in at the right time.

The only reason I’m back to punting is the existence of Betfair as I’m a layer. Laying is possible I suppose in the high street but it’s hardly practical.

For me anyway I never actually touch or feel or smell the money I win as it stays where it is or goes to the bank..

My low risk laying has a first this afternoon. Yes Programme Girl in the 2.20 at Sedgefield was favourite when I layed it. Win, lose or draw Programme Girl is excellent value for a lay.
