The best book I have came across on how To facilitate picking winners is a book called Spot The Winner written by Ivor Herbert (trainer of a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner)

Fabulous book with stunning original drawings, grabbed a copy for 10 pence at a library sale.

Mid to late eighties was when I 1st took notice of horse racing and names for that era that are rarely mentioned these days would include

    all flat

    Daarkom
    Saddeem
    Grey Desire
    Sure Blade
    Nom De Plume
    Then Again
    Half A Year
    Waajib
    Chillibang

Also rememeber very good 2 year olds from that era that never trained on

    Al Hareb
    Sanquirico
    Carmelite House

Over the Sticks well Gordon Richards had 2 infuriating but classy ones called Jinxy Jack and Randolph Place who both had a nasty habit of falling when very very short odds.

Someone will take advantage of this very foolish decision but it won’t be Betdaq or WBX who are a waste of time it’ll be something that doesn’t exist presently. Some innovator somewhere with boldness and daring will see a great opportunity from this.

Sheikh Mohammed must agree with some of us as I read when they found out that Dubai Millenium was gonna be a bit tasty they re-registered his name.

Arab Khalid Abdullah doesn’t have Arabic names for his horse but they do have beautiful names, my all time favourite the Aurally and Orally beautiful Reams of Verse.

If its the Prince himself who names his horses he is a Connoiseur of Classy Names and even the 1 word names are classy like Digression and Warning but really the list is endless.

No one ever mentions Ajdal as a great sprinter but he surely was and what makes him interesting is his career path.

I would describe Stewart Machins voice as BLAND but I mean that in a complimentary way of being neither stimulating or irritating which is more than can be said for Ian Bartlett who has the ugliest voice on the circuit.

The guy mentioned earlier who keeps pausing to take a deep breath would that be someone called Lee something who often does Exeter course commentaries, his pausing to take that breath is so pronounced.

A race run again doesn’t have to be a RENEWAL & I dispute the proposition that it does have to be a RENEWAL.

A horse having SCOPE all these years on still part puzzles though I now vaguely understand the term.

Sunerta won a maiden for Khalid Abdullah trained by Dick Hern in 1986.

In 1987 when Henry trained an enormous number of winners(180 or something)there was probably 1/2 the number of meetings as there are now A TRULY AMAZING FEAT that was.

Strange that Hamdan and Sheikh Ahmed or Maktoum Al Maktoum never sent horses to Henry when he was cleaning up mid to late 80’s.

During that time Charles St George had an enormous number of horses with Henry, all named after painters Sanquirico and Lanfranco are the one’s I remember

I thought that Group 1 winners were safe from duplication but there are 2 of Prince of Dance (original the 1988 Dewhurst Dead Heater)

Cacoethes and Soviet Star are my memories of Greville as I got into Horse Racing 1987, the year after Dancing Brave. When Greville retired that also marked the beginning of the decline of Guy Harwood as a force.

Try a higher turn over of bets using a WIN SMALL, WIN OFTEN approach. This helps if you don’t have a huge bank to start off with and it also lessens the damage done by an outrageous piece of bad luck.

Dubai’s oil reserves will be exhausted in 20 years time so may be this latest news will make the relevant parties prepare contingency plans for when the Maktoum era begins to end, none of the sons have the same passion for horse racing as their fathers do anyway.

Where does all this Jonjo ill-will come from. I don’t follow it too closely but do horses that leave Jonjo’s care suddenly improve 2 stone?

I wish we could have less of this Sir Mark this and Sir Mark that, the title was inherited from a dead relative that wasn’t even his father.
