June 11, 2010 at 12:18 #299947I see AOB has a two year old called Zoffany. Rings a bell. 80’s perhaps?
June 19, 2010 at 13:17 #301991One is Invisible Man (FR) the other Invisible Man (GB)that is allowed.
I’m sure someone will have the details to hand but I recal a race some years ago where there were two horses of the same name in the same race – the only difference one had an (IRE) suffix.

June 19, 2010 at 13:20 #301993Thanks, Paul. Damn French horse.
June 19, 2010 at 13:24 #301994Harbinger (G1 Jockey, Playstaion) shares the same name with the real horse that runs today at Ascot!! The former runs in silks of Khalid Abdullah, as opposed to Highclere
June 19, 2010 at 13:44 #301999I’m afraid no horse’s names are sacred – there have been more than a dozen Eclipses.

Not quite the same race, but the nearest I’ve found so far is the occurrence at Kempton on November 21st 2001, where identically monikered horses ran in successive races.
The GB-bred Red Blazer won the novices’ chase at 1.35pm for Hen Knight and Jim Culloty;

…then 35 minutes later, the Tony Carroll-trained NZ-bred Red Blazer finished fifth in a stayers’ handicap hurdle;

Closest so far, I reckon. Can anyone find two in the same race?

June 19, 2010 at 15:58 #302027There were two "Averti"’s in one race in the early 1990’s, think it was at Yarmouth though not 100%.

June 19, 2010 at 19:28 #302086Whoops deleted – hadn’t noticed GD had already confirmed it.
June 19, 2010 at 19:33 #302089There are two Binoculars. One races on the flat and the other over jumps. My computer software thinks they are the same horse.
June 19, 2010 at 20:22 #302095Musical Echo was by Distant Music (USA) and otr of Distant Music (GB).

A decent pair of Binoculars.
Binocular (FR) – 2004 races in GB.
Binocular (GB) – 2004 races in IRE.
Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.
June 20, 2010 at 04:01 #302151Denman – Gold Cup winner owned by Harry Findlay.
Denman – Group 2 winning 7f horse, owned by Sheikh Mohammed, now part of Godolphin.June 20, 2010 at 04:54 #302154There’s a Nicanor racing on either side of the Atlantic, the French bred one trained by Noel Meade in Ireland and the full brother to Barbaro trained by Michael Matz stateside.
June 20, 2010 at 05:19 #302155Zoffany (Ire) ran last week at Ascot despite another Zoffany (Ire) having run only 5 years ago. The original Zoffany is not listed as "dead" so someone must have been notified it was not going to run again or it is in fact "dead".
Even so, 5 years seems a very short length of time before a name can be re-used.June 20, 2010 at 10:47 #302215I would be more concerned about the following trend that’s occurred in the last 20 years, generally emanating from the same source:-
Hibaayeb [2007]
Habaayib [2007]
Tajweed [2005]
Tajwid [1992]
Tajaweed [2005]
Tajannab [1991]
Tajannab [1992]
Tajannub [1992]
Mujtahid [1988]
Mujtahida[1993]
Mujahid [1996]
Mujaazef [GB] [2007]
Mujaazif [1988]
plus any number of other Muj’s…obsessive naming at it’s worst, I think.
