There were two Hors La Loi knocking around at the same time: The good one with a (FRA) suffix trained by Martin Pipe & James Fanshawe and a not so good one trained by Ian Williams (?)
There was definitely a horse called Norfolkandchance running in the late 80s or early 90s.
February 7, 2015 at 12:21 #504437Seem to recall in the early 80’S two fillies called Susanna running in the same race .
March 15, 2015 at 20:40 #836625Julie Cecil got away with it a couple of times with Joe Blob and another one I cant remember the name of
March 15, 2015 at 21:36 #836854I well remember the day Sheena West ran It’s Wallace and It’s Wallace Junior in the same race; seem to remember the commentator (Simon Holt?) just referred to the latter as Junior throughout
August 14, 2017 at 09:15 #1313822You really start to feel old in this game when a familiar racehorse name gets reused. Which current runners bring back memories of a notable namesake?
I’ll start with Godolphin’s unbeaten Golden Goal (IRE), who made me think of Golden Goal (GER). The German version was a useful jumper for Venetia Williams and Favourites Racing in the early 2000s, winning the Pendil and the Scilly Isles in a lucrative novice season. He is listed as ‘Died as a 7yo’ on the RP database, apparently lost in training in 2003.
August 14, 2017 at 09:30 #1313827Aiden O’Brien’s smart 3 year old Spanish Steps brought back a few “shilling each-way” memories for me!
August 14, 2017 at 09:42 #1313828Its sacrilege when the authorities allow the reuse of a famous name. For example there is currently an Irish jumper trained by Noel Meade called Thomond. An earlier horse of that name was twice second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (1933 & 1935) and twice third in the Grand National (1934 & 1935). Thankfully such instances are rare these days, perhaps this one slipped through.
August 14, 2017 at 10:58 #1313837How about GABR????
Bred in 1990 and trained by Robert Armstrong
bred in 2015 and trained by Sir Michael Stoute.
Both times it is Hamdan-Al-Maktoum owned.August 14, 2017 at 11:12 #1313840You really start to feel old in this game when a familiar racehorse name gets reused. Which current runners bring back memories of a notable namesake?

Thanks for bringing back bad memories youngfella

I had a “BIG” bet on Artic Jack in a novice chase at Haydock in the early 2000’s, he was cantering all over Golden Goal and would have won in a canter but tipped up at the last ditch when it was the last in the back straight. Would have been no danger with the fences they have their now.
There are hundreds of second comings unfortunately, Connaught Ranger made his debut last Monday while Gainsay had his second run on the same day.
August 14, 2017 at 11:15 #1313842A James Fanshawe horse called Ptarmigan Ridge has started racing this year.
I remember the original Ptarmigan Ridge – an honest sprint handicapper who won 8 times from 89 starts. Active 1998 to 2007 without missing any long block of time through injury.
Winning SPs of 40-1, 14-1, 6-1, 10-1, 14-1, 12-1 and 25-1! Sadly put down after his final start aged 12 after sustaining a fracture. Was still an entire and was set to become a stallion for riding horses.
August 14, 2017 at 11:22 #1313844spanish steps for me also, great old chaser for Edward Courage. Tbh I don’t like these names being used again

the latest incarnation looks like he’ll be quite good as well if his first run is anything to go by.

You’re sure the horse in question wasn’t Ptarmigan Lodge?
August 14, 2017 at 13:19 #1313857Definitely Ptarmigan Ridge, Ruby.

August 14, 2017 at 15:29 #1313874Had some fun with these type of horses in the past, but just couldn’t make it pay. I might just start again, as this thread has got me in the mood lol

Apologies LS. I was thinking Mrs. Perratt, but came up with the James Toller horse.
August 14, 2017 at 20:39 #1313898Does the original Berude Not To (trained by Oliver Sherwood) count when speaking of
Be Rude Not To (P J Rothwell) who ran in a Galway bumper a week ago? - AuthorPosts
