I hardly ever post but I’d just like to say RIP here.
I thought he was a brilliant jockey.
April 15, 2010 at 18:00 #290472R.I.P.,sad news.
If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.
April 15, 2010 at 22:13 #290526Cacoethes and Soviet Star are my memories of Greville as I got into Horse Racing 1987, the year after Dancing Brave. When Greville retired that also marked the beginning of the decline of Guy Harwood as a force.
April 16, 2010 at 08:31 #290563Indeed RIP
I used to like Greville on my selections
Lost the ride wrongly on the Brave IMHO
Much respect.
April 16, 2010 at 12:09 #290594Remember the great rivalry between To-Agori-Mouu and Kings Lake over a mile in the eighties. I think they met three times, Kings Lake winning twice, and there seemed to be quite a bit of aggro. Does anyone recall the exact details?

I was there that 2000 day, I might still have the racecard floating around. Great memories

I backed To-Agori-Mou as it reminded me of Ela-Mana-Mou (what can I say, I was a kid lol)April 16, 2010 at 17:15 #290645Remember the great rivalry between To-Agori-Mouu and Kings Lake over a mile in the eighties. I think it was to do with Eddery on King’s Lake bumping To-Agori-Mou in the Irish 2,000.
I can’t remember whether I felt it warranted a change of result or not but I do recall Starkey giving Eddery the ‘v’ sign after (I think) the St James’ Palace revenge.
Although there’s no doubt which of the two jockeys won the war in the end, and it wasn’t Greville Starkey. It’s sad that Starkey is most-remembered for the Derby ride on Dancing Brave (but there’s no doubt either that he made a colossal misjudgement that day, and paid dearly for it).
April 16, 2010 at 18:20 #290660King’s Lake beat To-Agori-Mou at The Curragh was but was disqualified for bumping the runner-up. Later, following an appeal, King’s Lake was reinstated as the winner.
To-Agori-Mou won the St.James’ Palace Stakes before Eddery and King’s lake gained their revenge in the Sussex Stakes.

April 16, 2010 at 21:49 #290709Thanks. That makes far more sense than my imperfect recollections.

Your recollections are not as imperfect as mine though. Yes, it was the Irish 2000.
