Racing will always be my number 1 but it pays to branch out into other areas so I will make another low risk lay on John McCain in the Pres Elect. No problems with liquidity on that market and certainly the biggest lay I have made to date.
Ally Down has credibility so when I read this from his column
It has been an open secret in racing for a good 20 years there was a culture of deceit among some jockeys in the North.
Several made it through to retirement without being detected largely because, going back 10 years, there was no audit trail of betting activity such as the one now provided by Betfair.
I am angered to the core and was completely unaware of the north-south divide when it comes to corruption in racing.
I can’t work out why Extra Smooth in the 2.40 at Carlisle is so short this afternoon. Win, lose or draw it has to be a great value lay and I’m not bothered at all if there is money for it.
If the horse was trained by Nigel Twiston Davis I would leave well alone but can C.C. Bealby ready the animal after two years off.
Do you think Raven’s Pass has been trained all season with this race in mind?
Colin
John Gosden last night
"We’d been thinking about this race all year, because it was switching to synthetic. It’s always been in our minds.
Well americans have always been seriously insular, if it’s not occuring in one of the 50 states then it just doesn’t count, absolutely deplorable attitude.
I just believe these days euro’s have learned how to bring their horses to american shores in peak fitness. No one will ever convince me that all those great horse we took over in the past like Dancing Brave and Indian Skimmer were beaten by better nags.
What always angers me with these corruption cases is the deplorable attitude of racing insiders to stick by their own and give these low lifes a sympathetic ear. What we need is some exemplary justice, life bans should be the norm with heavy fines. No doubt Mckeowon will pop up in five years as if nothing happened and insiders will welcome him.
Seeing R Winston on the Morning Line was shameful and disgraceful a few weeks ago with Tommos doling out compliments, absolutely nauseating.
Barry Hills used this tactic to good effect but that was years ago I don’t know if he still does it. I myself see no problem with it. I don’t see it as crookery at all.
The best way to avoild long losing runs that sap confidence is to lay rather than back. That’s exactly why I am a layer myself.
I don’t know much about Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum or who he is the son of but I do know he is sending some of the best yearlings Johnston has ever got from the Maktoum family. We will know see how Mark does with these royally bred expensive types.
The other long established Hamdan is also sending the stable a better class of yearling than in the past.
Yes Dessie was an incredibly efficient accurate jumper and he never wasted time in the air, gained a length at every fence when going right handed, none of those Fondmort style leaps that would cost you a length. That was why it was unbelievable when he fell that time at Liverpool.
Sabin Du Loir and Beau Ranger[/color:3ncqbit1]
These two were magnificent animals and hold lots of good memories for me, if the premier jump distance was 2 1/2 miles these were the cream especially Sabin. I seem to remember both of these animals running in the champion chase and running creditably over an inadequate trip, real brave brave efforts they were and great memories for me.
How many times did Sabin meet Dessie and how many times did he come out on top???
This is not a dig at Dessie becuse I loved that superbly efficient jumping machine.
That bio mentioned is where I got all my facts about Phil. Interesting stuff about Phil’s association with William Hill and Towser Gosden. It’s quite a few years since I loaned it from library but I seem to recall that the book said going was the most important criteria in horse selection for Phil.
That towering bore Angus Louchran should be dropped, he brings nothing to the table.
I always prefer Jim McGrath over Holty, would rather have had Ray Cochrane than Rishi.
That is what I call a worthwhile posting from David C. Highly informative
I imagine a lot of Tamazuz supporters are grateful that the R Hills Hamdan retainer does not extend to the French trained. Though the Maroof steal of the century happened on this very card, R Hills’s finest hour.
Well Monkerhostin certainly came on a ton when he switched from Oliver to Hobbsy but Cenkos was not bad before he switched to Nicholls.
Oliver’s brother Simon had two winners at the Chelt Fest during his debut season as a trainer and he is doing even worse. At that level how do they make it pay.
Kim Bailey is a fine, fine trainer and you simply do not land the big three if your a second, third or fourth rater. It just doesn’t happen. Hat’s off to Kim for landing the big three. Total admiration for that great, great acheivement.
I actually enjoyed reading that latest from Rory, more constructive this time. Always open to advice me always open that’s why I loved that Q and A with Alan Potts.
Approaching 50 trades on Betfair I’m still in profit and that Ghost Dancer lopped only about 15% off those profits. I was using the place market anyway and would never have layed Ghost in the win.
10% of Betfair customers win money off the other 90% and I am certain I will always belong in the 10% category, absolutely certain of that.
