In contrast to his brother I think Hamdan must be the most loyal owner in british racing as the only way you lose an annual intake is if you die or retire. Dick Hern, Alex Scott, David Morley, Alex Stewart, Harry Thomson Jones, Peter Walwyn, Robert Armstrong, Neil Graham etc.
To my knowlege Roger Charlton is the only british trainer in 20 years to lose Hamdan’s patronage without dying or retiring. Contrast that to his brother.
Continuing to employ Richard Hills season after season underlines the point. That’s loyalty for you.
August 14, 2008 at 20:26 #177029agree spitfire and he continues to support his trainers and runs his horses in all grades.
The only complaint is his loyalty to Hills which imo he would of had many more big race winners with another jockey.
Hills can win when he’s on the best horse but rarely makes a horse win if that makes sense.August 14, 2008 at 21:03 #177033Half an hour and still nothing from Glenn. He must be out.

Where were you when Hills was front running them to sleep on the likes of the likes of Tazeez and Mazzaya this week? Barking at the moon no doubt.
Hills wins big races that he has no right to because he’s simply the best jockey out there. Look at his big race record vis-a-vis Carson when he was getting Carston’s cast offs like Maroof and Harayir.
Unlike other jockeys who sit out the back and prey the horse will carry them to victory, Hills is a race rider.
The best jockey in the world ever.
August 15, 2008 at 14:20 #177083i’d say richard is better than michael, but would rather have patrick any day!!!

daiesyAugust 15, 2008 at 17:33 #177093Looks like Martin and Eddie did best for you there, Daisy! They aren’t having a great season this year.
August 15, 2008 at 18:29 #177095The best jockey in the world ever.
who are you his love child
gets beat time after time if he’s gets into a battle.
loyalty of his retainer keeps him going, take hamden away and see where he goes.August 15, 2008 at 21:30 #177104Didn’t take long did it? It took all of six minutes for the great man to silence the foloish critic posting above me.
Then came the icing on the cake. For it was double trouble for the Hills heretics tonight.
A massive 16/1 winner [/color:1zwj88dq] in the last.
Beaten the last half dozen times off marks in the 70s for different jockeys. Now up in class off a perch of 82, with Hills being legged up for the first time. The great man judged it to a tee, coming from last to first to claim his victory.
Give it up twobob – you’re embarassing yourself.
August 16, 2008 at 00:13 #177115I once lost a bet with my partner ‘cos I felt sure that Richard Weasel would be dumped within 2 seasons but I didn’t reckon with Sheikh Hamdam’s (inexplicable) loyalty.
August 17, 2008 at 10:43 #177202I don’t share Glenn’s view of Hillsy but I do admire the way he will swim against the tide, disregard the prevailing orthodoxy and simply form his own opinion and then stick with it.
Hamdan isn’t one for pulling out a horse from one of his trainers and GODOLPHISING it, yes he did it with Sakhee (won Dante for John Dunlop and ran a cracker to be second in Derby) but in the main he keeps them where they are.
The one negative with Hamdan would be his choice of names, whereas the similarly arabic Khalid Abdullah will go with beautifully named Reams of Verse, Shibboleth and Warning, Hamdan will go with Afwaj, Ijtihaad, Alwasmi and Ghadbaan. (a few of his from 80’s that I remember but no one else will)
PS Actually the jockey Hamdan really wanted before Willie got the job was Mouse Roberts but Mouse was reluctant to take the job at the time as he wanted to ride Mtoto.
September 27, 2008 at 13:30 #182494I imagine a lot of Tamazuz supporters are grateful that the R Hills Hamdan retainer does not extend to the French trained. Though the Maroof steal of the century happened on this very card, R Hills’s finest hour.
September 27, 2008 at 14:08 #182501…a day I’ll never forget, having been on at 40s on a stag weekend in Listowel- poor bloke has 3 kids now! I’ll still never forget the stunned silence in the course betting shop and one half-pissed lunatic attracting strange glances by shouting and jumping up and down!
September 27, 2008 at 15:15 #182511One thing I wasn’t aware of (maybe it’s a new association) is Sheikh Hamdan having horses with Ann Duffield – got a couple of entries next weekend.

Does she not just train the pure arabian-bred horses for him or am I confuding myself again!?
September 28, 2008 at 04:43 #182630I could be mistaken Darren but I’m sure that Sheikh Hamdan doesn’t have horses with Ann Duffield – ex wife of Alan Swinbank and now married to George.
If you’ve seen a Duffield with his horse it is Gill – former wife of George – who has always trained his arab horses for him. She is based out of Eve Lodge Stables in Newmarket and has a big and successful string for him in Dubai.
September 28, 2008 at 13:30 #182640Thanks Librettist / Adrian – basically, I was talking to a French colleague of mine yesterday morning about Arc day, and he mentioned that ‘Mrs George Duffield was training two horses for Sheikh Hamdan in a Group 1 at Longchamp’. I was totally unaware that there was an Arab race being staged on the same day, so I checked the info out, and both horses are indeed in the Arab race. Furthermore, according to France Galop, the trainer is listed as ‘Mrs G Duffield’, and it could be that my colleague Alain read the G as George, whereas it’s probably Gill.
Apologies for any confusion I’ve caused, especially if Ann Duffield has woken up this morning wondering how on earth she’s got 2 runners for Sheikh Hamdan in a Group 1 at Longchamp on Arc Sunday!!!
