What do you prefer, watching a bookie count notes into the palm of your hands and walking away with 10x what you come in with or sitting on your pc at home just looking at a few digits on the screen?
November 11, 2008 at 00:01 #189098I know what you are getting at and enjoy putting on placepots in my locals bookies. However to answer your question I’d rather sit at my PC and get 12 x what I started with.
November 11, 2008 at 00:10 #189100Quite frankly, it all depends on whether the digits on the screen are worth more than what the evil bookie counts into my palm or throws onto the counter. ‘Digits’ are also far more convenient.
November 11, 2008 at 00:19 #189102There’s nothing quite like holding the folding, is there?

The sweet smell of success and the chippy a stones throw away with 4 more races left.
Althought I wouldn’t say money smell’s that good, I do like the crispy scores
November 11, 2008 at 00:27 #189104When you hear " Can you please look after the counter Fredda, I’m going to open the safe to pay this gentleman."
Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.
November 11, 2008 at 02:39 #189131over the last month or so i’ve been cash betting for the first time since 2002 and have forgot how good it is. £1000 in cash looks great compared to looking at your screen.
November 11, 2008 at 03:01 #189137I have been far more "fortunate" in my cash betting recently, and the collection is sweet. Agree with Rory, and nicely put as well.
November 11, 2008 at 04:33 #189147Having crispy folding stuff wrapped in an elastic band and handed to you is exhilirating.
But how long until you start haemorrhaging that money?
November 11, 2008 at 13:02 #189165Of course the ‘exhilaration’ of handling cash winnings might relate to the fact that 98% of bank notes now carry traces of Class A drugs, since payment for said substances is the last great cash based industry.
If you’re carrying a grand in cash, you’ve probably got enough cocaine on you to be charged with possession!
November 11, 2008 at 13:39 #189167nothing better than being on course, even better when bookie hands over the cash with a smile on his face not
November 11, 2008 at 13:51 #189168Why would anyone want to bet in cash anymore if they don’t have to?
Just ripping yourself off for the pleasure of getting old notes in your paw?
No thanks.November 11, 2008 at 13:55 #189169This year I have broken my best cash winning total and smashed apart
my internet one..I clearly remember Sugar Ray winning from the front with Ryan Moore and collecting several hundred pounds was amazing as I had only ever won about £100 or so in cash.
And when Halfway To Heaven won so luckily at Goodwood I won over £2000.. but I got hardly any satisfaction from that. And I was quite disapointed. (The money factor, the race blew me away!)
I also find it easier to place alot more money on a horse when betting on the internet than if I was in a shop dealing in notes. This is because all you see on your screen is a transaction of digits…
November 11, 2008 at 14:49 #189179The visceral caressing and flashing of a fistfull does release a warm rush of endogenous opiates that’s not replicated by a virtual withdrawal or credit kite breaking the floorboards. But what is novel to the young, daft and eager is soon replaced by a grey familiarity to the old, wise and staid
is that all there is to a circus?November 11, 2008 at 15:03 #189180Why would anyone want to bet in cash anymore if they don’t have to?

No thanks. It is becoming harder and harder to get on a horse at an early price on the internet and over the phones for a reasonable sum. I would guess a lot of punters would be moving more to cash betting in the shops to get this type of bet on. I know I am.
November 11, 2008 at 16:20 #189187Physically handing over hard currency for a bet can be sobering – a good incentive to pause and consider how positive you are about your selection.
Somehow clicking the mouse to confirm and seeing the little numbers on the screen doesn’t always feel like you’re ‘spending money’ – it is easy to become too click-happy with bets.
Maybe that’s why I can only back winners on course and not when betting on the pc!
November 11, 2008 at 16:59 #189193I only bet in shops, but I am sure I will open a BF account one day.
The amount I "waste" in shops, I really should embrace the net for punting.
The local Corals will give you best prices on the "highstreet" for some footy and most cricket – but I think they are stopping that now. Shops are def even more penny pinching than before imho. Morning prices vanishing, raping terminals (moreso), and the burgeoning virtual racing.
